How did you create your on line store? And who did your website for it
As a 36 year old carpenter it’s a pleasure to watch someone Arlo’s age still excel at his job and see the joy on his face. It’s clear he loves what he does.
It’s pretty clear to me that Arlo is the best carpenter on the job site.
@@rogerstevenson8068/ Then Jamie, Eric, John-0, Ray, Jay.
As a 60 year old carpenter, wear knee pads and hearing protection.
That’s the key to being in the trades. If you’re not enthusiastic go be graphic designer or some shit.
Yes it is I'm 63 and still at but these guys are awesome take care buddy north Carolina here
Pro tip... Cut a piece of romex at about 6". Remove wire and paper sheath. Slide romex tube over caulk tip. You now have a flexible caulk dispenser.
That’s genius, I’m an electrician and I’m annoyed I never thought of this lol
@@gssngr Ditto
Right on
I like it. Maybe add duck tape.
I just use a McDonald's straw.
Hey Eric and Jamie. My name Steve and my brother is Ivan. We are two brothers from Ontario Canada. We are 46 and 44 years old and we are also home builders and renovators. We were also raised from a young age building with our father. We both follow your channel and now look on making our own channel here in Canada. It’s nice to see two brothers working together as we are. Great channel and we are now in contact with Evolve stone to introduce that product here in our area. Thanks and keep up the great work.
There are cut-men and there is Arlo. What a legend.
Happy to provide the studio for your ad filming, your invoice is in the mail 😂 Love this series, amazing how the house has transformed!
Cedar is a readily available wood in the northeast. It has great resistance to both rot and insects. It also weathers beautifully. Since there are a lot of older homes, cedar was the wood of choice over the past couple centuries since they didn’t have fancy stuff like pressure treated, OSB, etc. That’s why it’s used there.
Being a builder in Massachusetts for many years I can say we use cedar shakes as well as cedar clapboards for siding for thier natural resistance to insects and water damage. I would love to be able to use that osb siding you use but dont believe it would hold up against our climate. Keep up the awesome videos, you guys rock!!!
Its actually cypress, we need to start calling it right. There is no cedar in America only cypress and juniper.
And northwest.
@@Bubba_fett/ Um, no. Incense cedar is a very common tree species here in California.
We used redwood here in the West for the same reason. Plus it's beautiful. Now there's hardly any old-growth left.
Every one of the Perkins Builder Brothers videos, I just realized this, I’ve watched hundreds of them and I caught myself smiling through every single one ❤
If I’m remodeling my house I would Jamie to give me advice. He is always thinking. The entire crew fits together perfectly
Arlo has a wealth of knowledge . Its great to see Arlo on the work site.
"Dude, You're a doctor, where am I going?" 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Jaime is Mr. Patient! He’s darn intelligent and is very patient with those who don’t know what he’s thinking…. Other than Arlo. He is a future Arlo!
Discovered this channel a month or so ago. Sat on me couch in Hull, UK and devouring as much content as I can. Spent many years working in factories or as a labourer in some way or another and the interactions you guys have make me miss that camaraderie!
I learn something every time I watch one of your videos.
That's my boy Jamie with his different ways to do things. My funny guys, hardworking guys. Be kind to each other. Stay safe. Love to all

Cedar shake siding and roofing up north (especially New England) was a popular choice going all the way back to colonial times due to it's nature resistance to rot and general weather resistance. However, these days nobody uses it for roofing, and only wealthy people will use it for siding due to it's cost, but also to maintain its historical aesthetics.
I dont know how many here watch the series " Wild and Wonderful off Grid " .... But I would encourge everyone to pray for Erin who suffered a stroke recently . Please keep her , and her son who has some medical problems and the whole family in your prayers !
Oh thank you for sharing. Sending healing energy to Erin and her Boy. Sending positive energy to her Husband and the entire family. May they heal quickly and wholly with love.
Arlo, is a wealth of knowledge! I enjoying watching him at work! You all are so pleasant to watch. Always so positive to each other with some brotherly love joking with the entire team!
Pleeeease come back to do a full tour when completely finished! 🙂
Looking forward to the continuation of the main build!
Videos on that are starting back this Thursday!
@@PerkinsBuilderBrothers I am also looking forward to you being back at the Modern Home Build. While you were in Vegas at IBS the light switches, receptacles, fans and most of the lighting was installed along with the electrical panel getting hooked up! Permanent power got turned on on the 29th! So ready to get my place wrapped up with a pretty little bow! Though I will miss you guys a whole lot!

I grew up in New Hampshire near the seacoast, and many New England homes, especially near the ocean are sided with Cedar shakes because they are extremely really weather resistant especially to the salt water/salt air.
Cedar shakes are typically not allowed as roofing in most neighborhoods as fire can jump from one house to the next. But in a rural situation I'm sure it's acceptable.
The whole crew is great but Argo is an artist.
I hope to see a video when the house is completely done 😊
All those shakes work great for door and window install shims.
Love to see this when Ben is done.
The last thing I expected today was a collab on a video between the Perkins crew and the Singletrack Sampler. 💪🏼
Start up a merchandise with Ben. Those hats are to clean 🤙🏾🤙🏾🔥
We pre-paint our smart side before we install. Then second coat in place after caulking. Just stack them up on saw horses and roll both edges and the face. As you paint the face you set it aside. Goes super fast.
Stayed at the Hazel House (a previous PB series) for my honeymoon. Walked by BCO everyday walking to other business or on morning walks. GO THERE and STAY THERE. We did Disney and Universal the second week and agreed Bryson City was the best part. Plan to come back and stay in the tiny Airbnb they built.
That was definitely a fun build. Thanks for the video.
23:38 I like the blue mesh with gray front.
Gable end Cedar Shake came out very nice! Arlo = 🐐
Cedar shakes are great for a harsh environment. Naturally water resistant, thick coverage and, most importantly, easy to repair when damaged.
I used to install synthetic teak decks on boats, and we always caulked all perimeter edges, and it had to be beautiful. So we used a lighter to soften the plastic of a tip in a specific spot and actually had 2-3 different shapes for different tight areas.
Loved watching this one! Yall are gonna have to give us a tour when Ben’s all done with the inside
I grew up In Kansas. They use cedar shakes there as roofing because it stands up to against hail damage. Now I live along the Southern Outer Banks and shakes are used a lot here to resist wind damage. Love the videos.
Wood shingles are sawn. Shakes are split, and are much thicker. Shakes are used for roofs.
Thumbs up for Jay!
Redoing the frieze board definitely looked better. It's such a cute little house.
Frieze Board - A horizontal trim board installed flat against the wall to cover the gap between the top of the siding and the soffit. In addition, this can be used as a decorative transition between materials
I love the look of the stained cedar shake. I wouldn’t have guessed it would look so nice. The way the grain and some of the red shines through is great.
Most important (as you did !!) don't nail on first and paint the wall later. It is a hell of a job to paint in the narrow gaps (shingles shrink), plus no protection of the back-side. Our house in Nova Scotia is all Atlantic cedar shingles, so I know the burden :). For the back-side only paint the bottom inch. Both me and my wife can paint a full bundle of shingles in 20-30 mins, still a lot of work. Here a technique for drying: lay them in a circle, 6' diameter and the thick part of the shingles facing outwards. Then put layer on layer, the painted ends hardly touch. We have had in the garage stacks up to four feet high. Another time we white-washed them, Fill the first bucket with 6" of paint/thinner mix and dump the shingles in. Then take (by the handful, wear gloves) all of them out and put 'paint down' in bucket two to let excess white-wash drip off. Lastly, put that stack in bucket three, but now upside down, so painted end upside. This prevents marks on the painted surfaces. Wait a minute and then move them to the drying pile. Paint collected in bucket 2 and 3 goes back into bucket 1. Using this method we did at least four bundles per hour.
That project turned out really nice guys.
I've helped with two "waterproof" decks before. The first was a small front porch like that which had an intentional slope of about a half inch per foot and a sealed sheet of 1/8" ply under the boards with the boards running the same direction as the slope. The second was built as a normal deck then had one inch per foot sloped tracks framed in with some 2x2 that could hold corrugated panels just under the deck boards and guide the water out to the side. The galvanized panels lasted about 15 years then got swapped for plastic.
A very interesting project! Lot's of "little" challenges!
It looks great. I would love to see the interior when Ben finishes it.
That's the best Pro Tip ever - just toss the shingles in the grass to let the stain dry, lol
love to see renovation video instead of new built. I saw people use a lighter to heat up the caulking tip to soften it and bend it. Haven't tried it personally tho
Great Teamwork Again 👍👍Love the way the job flows really well a good watch 👍❤️👍
Well done, sealing up the braces running down into the siding. Kudos!
I don't work in a trade, I'm a software developer but I love watching these videos as I look forward to buying a home and doing remodels/building new things to make it my own. With that said, I would love to support you guys with a hat and maybe one day a shirt/hoodie! May have to buy my in-laws one of those bit carabiners 2 of them are carpenters and I'm sure they would love it!
Those hats look awesome
Very nice guys😉
Looks like a nice side house ‼
That looks awesome, loving that exterior colour!!!
Cedar siding was used heavily where I am at the Jersey shore. Rot, bug, And salt air resistant. Lasts for hundreds of years properly maintained. The salt air is rough and we have to use resistant materials.
Love my LP Smart siding. Looks great and doesn’t break like Hardie board. You also don’t need a respirator to cut it.
This place is looking great… What a transformation
I love BCO shirts/hats and definitely get Richardson hats.
Fantastic job. Looks really great.
Loved this build as my current home has a super similar paint/trim color scheme. Lots of great ideas for upgrades!
Love the way you bent the tip. This should be a thing. Maybe use a piece of tubing and heat the tip to bend it without restriction. Jamie, you are a head of your time. Love this channel. You are all a great crew. Smart and well put together. Shine on Perkins
Loving a nice long Sunday episode, it helps fill the void of ‘This Old House’ that i used to watch sunday mornings. Good job folks!
I have found Sherwin-Williams paints to be the best when looking for a one-coat paint.
In the BC Lower Mainland for 1989 built Townhouses we had cedar shakes for the roof. Then in 2006 they went to re-roof, remove shakes, put plywood down, new asphalt shingles. I think at one time cedar shakes were cheaper than asphalt shingles, you didn't need plywood on the roof just strips of wood to nail the shakes on to.
Certainly a very cute little building. Thanks for the enjoyment, and this is also due to the editing, so thanks Erik ☺️ have a great week.
I like these little buildings the best.
I love the way this turned out. The place has character you can't get in a new build, that's the thing so many are missing. You guys killed it 👍
It’s SO CUTE! Very nice!
Cedar is a very resinous wood, among bug resistance and rot resistance it holds up very very well to salt water.
Great video series. Project looks great. Plz do a part 10 - before and after.
When your caulk tip is too short add a piece of tubing to extend it to the length you need.
That turned out really nice!
Cedar siding, trim, deck, etc up north. Yes! Rot & BUG resistance
I'm in NY state and we don't have much of it here. Must be a further up north thing lol.
Haha brothers never change, this is how you do it. you know just like how I said it needs to be done.
Hell yes we use cedar shake for wall covering because the r value is three times any other siding
Beautiful job guys!
I love that the people behind my two favorite KZhead channels are homies. Big shout out to Kyle & Greg at RR Buildings!
Yep. That’s what I was sensing. Best. Buds. Ayup.
What an amazing job y'all have done on this. The different colors make the structure pop in eye appeal. Enjoyed and thank you as love how the work ethic shows.
You guys definately need hats in your Merch line up. Great show guys always puts a smile on my face 😂
When are you guys starting on that big plot of land you cleared a couple of years ago? The one where you thoughts it would either make two or three larger properties or a number of smaller rentals. That would be great - to see you work on a much larger project.
3:11 love watching you guys work on this stuff! You can’t teach passion and you guys seem like you are very passionate about building stuff the right way!
Looks great
Eric ...wacky gappy 😂😂😂 love these guys terminology 😂😂😂
Advance congrats on a million subs! You guys all do a great job and it's fun watching & listening. I've learned so much!
Good job guys. Looks amazing !!
Such a great series. Makes me want to do another small house.
Cheers from norway🤓🤙🇳🇴 Have been watching u guys for a good amount of time now. Very entertaining and informative! I love to watch you guys work in the American way!😆
Love that color, works amazing with the stone.
AWESOME job guys!😀😀
Cedar siding up north is really just a stylistic choice now. Historically here in New England you'd see it on the coasts I'm guessing because it didn't need paint.
I really like the dark primary color.
I love the color!
I live in what I believe to be the only authentic Cape Cod house west of the San Jacinto River, Cedar shingles on the walls, 11 inch reveal. Cedar roof shingles (Royals, 24 inches) with a 7-1/4 reveal. The original roof was installed in 1956, curled, cupped, ugly as hell, and zero leaks.
Turned out really nice.
Cedar shakes very common around water and beaches up here in RI but less common the further inland you go. Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard thats all you see. Definitely the style up here.
Awesome Job!!
if Arlo did it, we trust it
