Theorist, does Gen Z look older than other generations like Baby Boomers and Millennials? Everyone on the internet seems to think so thanks to TikToker Jordan Howlett. But is it even true? Well, we that know Gen Z celebs like Reneé Rapp, Millie Bobby Brown, and Kylie Jenner tend to look older than they look, so that's a start. So then... WHY is this the case? WHY is Gen Z aging so rapidly? Today we find out.

i think this is a chronically online thing. every gen z i know and have seen irl looks perfectly fine and their age. ppl need to go outside more
in hs they looked like adults and in college they look like adults. theyre style hasnt changed (neither has mine but i always dressed like a kid).
Idk maybe it’s an anxiety thing lol
Im 24 and look like Im 18. I think its due to stress abd trying to look older
(Edit, I just realized I read this comment wrong 💀 I'm still gonna leave this here because I think it's important) there's no where or way kids and teens can go outside. You have to use a car to get to anywhere, and there's not many spaces that let teenagers hang out. Example, if we stay at the mall for too long without getting anything we get kicked out. And the neighborhood park won't cut it for older kids. Our parents can't just drive us everywhere. This causes a problem for teens too old to play at the playground, and too young to get a driver's license. Not to mention places are extremely dangerous nowadays. You can't go outside by yourself without the worry of getting kidnapped
By the way, if you look at actual crime data, violent crime has been decreasing for decades. On average we're safer than we've ever been. It just doesn't feel that way because the media, TV and social, highlights every single bad thing that happens. Bad news travels fast @@Vivelli.

You missed vaping! Millennials were the first generation who didn’t regularly smoke cigarettes - but vaping became a thing and Gen Z took to tobacco use.
This is a great point! Smoking is such an ager, I think Gen X and Millenials committed other sins though, like tanning beds. I still am shocked about how some Gen Z look but I also think it's lifestyle and food. A lot of youngins are terribly out of shape compared to older generations
Not to mention that there's more pollutants in the air and earth (and your makeup/skin care products) than there ever has been before that age you.
I smoked from 14-21 and because of genetics and my height I’m 32 and still look like I’m 23 🤷🏼♂️ It’s really down to the person

It also feels like we're having these generations grow up with HD cameras that show everything we've ever described as "signs of aging" in greater and more constant detail than ever, so some of it was probably just normal and we never noticed until the cameras showed it all...
I don't think so, this generation has filters for everything. So you can look however you want ok pictures.

I don’t know, I am 29 years old and some days I just wake up with smoother skin.
Naw we have filters for that. It’s the way the dress and all the preventative aging measures they take at too early of an age.
Yeah millennials used digital cameras before phones with a decent non VGA camera were a thing and if you have used a digital camera you know they picked every single detail, wrinkle, fold, freckle, even dust and lint in the picture. If a generation had HD cameras and no filters it was the millennials :S
THANK YOU! You can't imagine how often I try to explain that to my family and friends. Socrates said 2400 years ago: "The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers." It's the same thing. The old is always complaining about the youth. I'm near 30 now and all my family and friends are constantly criticizing teenagers and kids for everything. It's so sad. I have the feeling that no one tries to understand and we keep repeating the same fights, the same debates, the same problems. Like as we are not able to learn mentally and socially.
A couple of hours ago I saw a video mentioning something along the lines of: "the human experience is to repeat the same mistakes over and over again", and it do b true yk😂

Genetics also plays a role too. I have family members in their 60's that still look like they're in their mid to late 40's, while I also have family members that are in their 60's who actually look it. Honestly, I think it's better to teach the youths of today that aging is a part of life, and that there's nothing wrong with that. It's a natural thing that happens to everyone. We should be embracing that as another stage of life, rather than belittling it. S:

to be fair its not anything about us personally its just that nobody really looks their age anymore so I wouldn't beat yourself up for it.
Nobody looked their age in the 2000’s or 90’s either, just not as much pictures out there for evidence.

I'm a Middle Millennial and have gotten so many compliments from Gen z on my dressier clothes - - they get SO excited when they find out my skirts are literally from the 60-70's and inherited from my mother and her Hippy phase, that my hats are from Halloween costume shops bought in November and then customized to be less specifically a character and more just *fancy*.
"Oh waiter!! One fake story please!"
I'm a zoomer and I get excited about old clothes because they just look so tough. Clothes nowadays are so flimsy and basic looking but vintage clothes literally feel thicker, better material, fancy buttons, etc.
@@namelessliberty9869 you don't know how to form a coherent thought come back when you finish middle school
I would be excited about your mom's skirts too, I don't have old clothes like that, most of the ones my aunts gave me are from the early 2000s :')
@@namelessliberty9869 Yeah I really do adore the older materials. I grew up sharing clothes with my mom since I kinda grew sort of fast (Hit 5'7" while still in elementary school) and seeing just how flimsy everything is now a days really makes me appreciate how many clothes I kept from then since.. Well I can still fit in them and they're so much sturdier than anything else. Honestly I had a pair of vertical striped pants she had gotten in the 80's that I ended up getting handed down in middle school and I wore it all the way through college until it finally gave up the ghost cause it was worn so often that it thinned in areas. I ended up keeping it though as keepsake -- I hope to eventually cut it up and make an art doll out of the remains.

Before watching this video, I feel like this super applies to gen alpha cause i still remember times before social media and before phones and I was born in the mid 2000’s

I've been on social media since 2004 or 2005 and had a cell phone since 2003. Both my parents had cell phones in the 90's and my brother got a cell phone in 2000. You were literally born after Myspace and cell phones. I made my Facebook account in 2007.
I think I got my first smart phone in 2008.
In my personal opinion i believe its the lose of the tween phase. (so happy my neices are actually living through their tween years like a tween) Not to mention that all the products these literally children are using is NOT for their skin. They are genuinely just ruining their skin or growing up too fast. Theyll regret it once they are actually adults. Im only 20 and i still wish i played more as kid. (i look younger unlike most of my generation)
I despise you
I've seen about a hundred articles that all say "Yeah, they've known every little doom and gloom from here to Timbuktu since they could read. They're stressed out of their minds." And I think that's a pretty solid explanation, tbh. It would also explain the discrepancies from one person to another. And for those thinking this is just an online thing, it's not. At my place of work we have issues with customers assuming our newer employees are senior staff because they look older.
Can confirm. My stress levels are through the roof
The older generations who went and are still going through that sht too: 🫠
Love the videos! I would really appreciate it, and it would help the scientific style of the channel(s) if you would cite your sources during the video or put them in the description. Some of the sources could be interesting from a psychological research point of view
Would love a video on why some ppl have babyfaces. I have a babyface and I'm also short. I'm almost 40 and still have encounters where I'm asked to show ID bc ppl can't tell if I'm over 18. During my 20's ppl would think I was the younger sibling. Having a babyface can be fun sometimes but it can also be a curse. Especially since other ppl my age looks older than me and I'm starting to get tired of ppl getting shocked that I'm atleast 10 years older than they thought. I've never been into skincare, but have tried it. My skin is just very sensitive. I love makeup but rarely use it and can't contour at all. Just as said in the video, contouring wasn't really a thing when I was a teen. I'm afab and spent my teens and early 20's as female presenting. I used concealer to hide acne, foundation, powder and a rough (not sure how it is spelled) to slightly mark my cheekbones. And ofc I used kajal/eyeliner, eyeshadow, mascara, lipliner, gloss/lipstick. I would love to do a video one day on how I used to do my makeup, but makeup has become so expensive nowdays. Which brings me to another idea of topic I would love to see on this channel. Which is "How makeup has become more expensive and why that is". For example: I bought some eye makeup the other day bc I was going to a show and my makeup was like 10 years old, and was shocked at the cost. Things were like 3x the price I used to pay. Isadora used to be a brand anyone could afford and now it is expensive. Looking at Isadora now felt like looking at MaxFactor when I was a teen. An expensive model worthy brand I would save my allowance for to be able to buy one product of. I love this channel.
*STRESS* That's why! Edit: Hey, I have a crazy idea for a new feature on KZhead. They should add a "Least Popular" option, so that you can see a channel's least viewed videos
im so happy matpat left bro
I suspect the energy drinks are not helping either.

The THREE most significant factors in ageing skin are wealth, smoking, and sun exposure. Millenials were probably the first generation to adopt sunscreen en mass and they started working more in the office. The younger generation are also less likely to smoke (more likely to vape). Generally speaking, the richer you are, the younger you look. The poor age is a lot quicker because of chronic stress. This is not generational because every generation has their share of rich and poor. Therefore, wear sunscreen, avoid sun exposure as much as possible, don't smoke, and just be rich.
That just be rich line really hurts.
0:38 what happened to the PNGs rising against their counterparts in the second or third ending of matpat's retirement video?
I love these types of videos where they tell you "don't stress" and proceed to tell you that if you get stressed you will get wrinkles, you will go bald and your life will be miserable... Pff of course that will calm your stress, right? I feel SO MUCH better and NOT AT ALL stressed after hearing that.🤣
Tbf I think it just comes down to the sun. You see 15 year old Americans and they look about 40 but 15 year olds from the UK, where its often cloudy, look about 12. I would imagine gen Z would look younger if anything since a lot of them prefer staying indoors + all the lockdowns we had a few years back. It's an odd one.
This is the most inside generation in the US, its not the sun.
I'm sorry, but idk what it is with UK makeup trends but it makes kids look even older than kids from anywhere else. It's definitely not the sun.
A lot of America is also coastal and cloudy, so I doubt it's that.
Past generations got way more sun in their late teens and early adulthood. Something else is going on here
@seinarukishi9228 Sommat in the water then idk 🤣
0:04 Gen-Z is aging like a banana 😂😂
This moment keeps replaying in my mind over and over. It's everything I ever needed to accept aging as an Elder Millenial.
You have put a new spin on sltlye theory and i like it
Am I the only one that reflects on my life like this? "Reminds me of when I used to see friends in person.... (6th grade) THAT WAS 10 YEARS AGO? Man, I am getting ooooooold..."
I'm only 30, but I've always looked old. I was always taller and broader than other kids and I had a full beard by 17. Going bald at 23 also added to the effect.
"Age is just a number" famous last words
I was a little scared of what this video was gonna say, but im glad it got to where it ended. thank you for telling it like it is: not a big deal in the slightest
Yeesh, Amy, I don't know about that concluding statement of; "Age is just a number". Might wanna reword that!
As a gen Z-er myself, this video has convinced me I live under a rock
Same
For some reason Amy mentioning the pandemic made me want to play animal crossing new horizons
that is impossible because if everyone looked older then that would just become the normal for that age
They look older than Millennials is what's being said.
12-27. 28 is 1996
As a millennial myself, I give GenZ my sympathies for the aging from stress. And I'll give them props on recycling clothing that I couldn't do. Anything else, like make-up, and plastic surgery. That's on them. Deal with the consequences of your own actions. I'll see your wrinkles from the other side. Lol
Millennials look young for our age. Idk how since we have been stressed out whole lives but we do.
Maybe never quite feeling like an adult despite however old we are does that?
Eh. I think millennials look their age.
or ego. a lot of yall do look your age ngl.
Y’all millenials are cute. my siblings are all millenials but im a gen z, and man they cute asf. (cant generalize but at least most of the millenials i know)
Millennials still dress like we are highschoolers.
At first, I thought that covid hadn't really affected me, but then I realised my forehead - only my forehead, is full of WRINKLES
im genz and i look younger than my age actually.. might be because i never use makeup or because im kinda undeveloped because of malnutrition during childhood dunno
The stress part reminded me of a colorized video in the streets of some city, where child labour was at it's highest during the industrial revolution. In the video some kids were staring at the camera and they were the size of 12 year old with the face of 50 year old. They had so many wrinkles on their face, they were exhausted. Stressed.
My whole life, I’ve been told I look older than I am. I’ve leaned into that a LOT the past few years with my style. I regularly wear a button down shirt with a vest, fedora, and bow tie. When I was in my junior year of high school, I even bought myself a tweed jacket off Etsy. While most everyone else my age tends to dress like typical teenagers (t-shirts, shorts, crazy colors, etc), I dress like I’m in my 60’s and I love it. However, even outside of that, I’ve been told that one of the biggest things that make me look older than I am is just because of how I hold myself, physically.
age is just a number a prison cell is just a room too
I think the best part of this style theory episode is the fact that Alie will lead the rebellion and I’m actually a child so I wanna be a soldier and Ollies army and take down style theory, food theory, game theory, and film theory with him
