I consider the Wolf River to be Wisconsin's greatest trout stream. Located in the northeast portion of the state, it is probably the best river for catching trophy brown trout in the 18" to 24" range. A few rainbow trout are also present. The stream averages 150 feet wide, 3-4 feet deep and offers about 35 miles of public fishing. 75% of the shoreline is publicly owned. It is a National and Scenic Wild River, on Trout Unlimited's 100 top trout stream list, and also a destination area for those who like whitewater rafting. man wisconsin has some of the best places for fun fishing, i grew up on the athens/ goodrich area and was a 5 min walk from the big rib river on highway 64. i would walk down there almost every day during the summers when i was around 8-11 years old and just throw out a bobber with a small hook and nightcrawlers i found under rocks. infinate panfish, chubs and even some brookies. those were the good ole days i tell ya.
I enjoy also seeing your family enjoying the moment in the rapids LOVE IT
You two are most definitely skilled pros at maneuvering through them rapids! Great video!
Thank you - truly a beautiful appreciation of a classic river. Wanted to visit the Wolf for too many years - you took me there. Your approach recognizes the beauty of this resource and all those views of the river are appreciated. Unfortunately, most videos are far too different - look at ME, see ME catch fish... It is obvious that you enjoy these gorgeous Wolf and thanks again for these unique videos - such startling quality, also... Appreciated greatly...
Thanks for the comment. I have several other streams of that area filmed waiting to get edited and published and I hope to film the remaining good streams of NE Wisconsin some day. Stay tuned.
Awesome. You should do some more videos on Central Wisconsin trout fishing
Indeed. My plan is to eventually have good video documentation of all good trout streams in all of Wisconsin.
I always thought of the Wolf River as more of a whitewater area for paddlers and also as a warm water fishery with many bass, but some trout also mixed in within the Langlade County section. The Wolf River is Wisconsin's largest trout stream. While some of the Wolf River tributaries have natural reproduction, the Wolf River itself needs some help. Stocking would be necessary to maintain a good trout fishery. In such a large river, I image some of the brown trout could become very large. The Wolf River is in a largely wild area with much forest and little encroachment by humanity. Some people consider the Bois Brule River in NE Wisconsin as the state's greatest trout stream based on natural reproduction, trophy potential, and public access. The Bois Brule River also has whitewater for paddlers.
Beautiful. Will have to check out this area sometime. Looks like the fall!
I'm so glad I found your channel GREAT VIDEO INFORMATION SUPER HELPFUL New subscriber I will be following you Please keep the good work 👏 🙌 👍 This is first video made for the subscribers I watch Most video makers don't want to share their areas of where they are fishing
What fun!
The Wisconsin DNR has planted 15,000 brown trout and 5,000 rainbow trout into the Wolf River in Langlade County this spring of 2022. Wolf River stockings should result in some delighted anglers. The 2022 stockings were "large fingerlings". There may be larger carryover fish from prior year stockings.
Why is that one section closed to fishing by the general public ? And for how long a stretch? Beautiful river
It enters the Indian reservation at that point.
You have to be enrolled in the Menominee tribe to fish in that county, with the exception of Legend Lake
Wheres these exact spots?
All i can catch on the wolf these days are small mouth bass.
