Iowa State seems to have a knack for upsetting the best Big 12 teams. I still remember when they beat Oklahoma State in 2012
That game is arguably why we have a 4 team playoff now. There was a lot of controversy to sending either another SEC team (Alabama) or Oklahoma State to the championship game which eventually was the last straw before the new playoff system.

14-7 and TCU didn't score a single offensive point... Iowa States "Terrible Defense" held them to 0 offensive points. We went on to hold one of the top offensive teams in the country in Memphis to 20 in the bowl game.

The absolute best part about that Troy upset over LSU was the fact that South Alabama played Troy the following week in our rivalry game, and pull off the "upset" against Troy. Adding onto that, is the fact that LSU also beat Auburn in the season.

If Oklahoma faced off against them in the first round, Oklahoma would have destroyed them, and if you think since Alabama destroyed Clemson in the first round, they would have destroyed Oklahoma, it wouldn't have been as easy. Unlike Kelly Bryant, Baker Mayfield actually knows how to read defenses. Against Georgia, the guy was sick and shouldn't have even played, I bet his vision was blurry by the second half and that's why he was scrambling all over the place, that's why they didn't go for it in double overtime. I would have put in Kyler Murray in the second half because he knows how to read defenses AND he's way faster than Mayfield. Against Alabama, they wouldn't know what to do against our offense because Kyler would be too much for them, and Saban didn't decide to put in a freshman QB in that game and Jalen Hurts would be throwing interceptions left and right. Oklahoma has great pass Defense against non- conference teams, but not against the run.

Iowa State certainly was much better last year than anticipated. As an Iowa fan, we know we can never sleep on them. Partly because when they are bad, that game is their Super Bowl; and when they're good, they're good. It's going to be a really scary game for us this year and Iowa State may very well contend for the Big 12 Championship.
Gotta love Wash St upsetting the unbeaten USC, then getting shellacked two games later by Cal. Not as interesting as a 10-0 Miami getting beat by a team that has already been disqualified for a bowl game, though.
