My cat is way to nice to me. I don't deserve such a sweetheart in my life. I'm glad I adopted him otherwise he would be on the street. There are too many dogs that chased him and cars etc. So I had to take him home. He's never intentionally hurt me

A long absence is generaly not a betrayal for animals. They could have good memory and remind of friend or owner and get happy to see them again a long time after. But here, the fact seems that the son act like an agressive stranger when he came back home, hurried himself noisely to took the cat on his arm without respect. The cat didn't understand this way of behaviour while he needed a bit time and scent to recognize his previous owner. Since then, the cat have no more confidence and even anger between the son. I think that's the reason of the tense.
Even animals have a soul, and they understand what betrayal is.

Loved the way this family worked together to try to win the cat's trust for the son. This video made me laugh. Vet. even did a home visit to advise the family on cat's angry behavior. Excellent. I enjoyed it better than a movie.

At the time I really thought it was that. Then the vet came and explained how cats view the world and how they perceive the other 'cats' scent at home, and finally the owner who spent five months away just run to Austin and grabbed him hugging him, having the scent of a stranger, it's normal for a cat, a being that usually hates people he don't know or don't trust, touching him, to start getting angry to that person. XD When I saw that I said "Makes sense, cats are just like that" XD

Some of these channels abuses animals for profit, views, and praise. When you see a foreign film like this, the “abused” animal is found and taken to the vet and either it lives or dies. The vet trip is short, and you never see the pet again. In reality, you see a healthy pet that’s terrified of a new owner and situation because it’s being abused on camera, then it’s either injured or killed where the film suddenly ends at the vet. The films are Vietnamese or Korean, and they are all shot out of sequence. If you find anything with “Paws” in the title, or it alerts you that something seems wrong, listed to your instincts. All of these channels garner millions of views, subscribers based on content, likes/dislikes, comments and are monetized. This is big money. This channel “seems to be fine” but you can’t be too careful. I’ve blocked several channels doing this, and if you read the comments, some people will tell you if there’s anything wrong with the channel, and others are openly listing all the ones to avoid. I refuse to watch any that abuse/kill for profit.

I mean, its obvious. he really does feel betrayed. Cats specifically act like humans in those situations, its not without a reason
Happened to me. I grew up with a cat, then we moved and were absent for 2 month. Elderly cat stayed with cousin. When we came back the cat was very annoyed with us, he did not let any of us pet him. I was just 17 and I felt absolutely horrible. Now I am extremely carefull with this kind of things.

1: Never approach a cat timidly or with extreme caution. Your anxiety is making it anxious 2: Never try to pet a nervous cat by reaching your hand OVER it. Always make sure the hand you're petting it with is visible so it knows where you are. 3: If a cat is growling/scratching/biting/screaming it means it is *scared* of you. Sit in the same room with it with no one else for long periods of time. Don't approach it, let it come towards you when its ready. Constantly approaching it like that makes it more nervous and less trusting of you. (For anyone with a nervous cat)
Good advice. I think everyone was thrown off because Austin is *his* cat and they were surprised, shocked, and saddened that he would act that way toward him.
Cats don't feel betrayed. Over petting and over stimulating will make a cat react.
You actually wait, for them to come sniffing your hand before touching it though. That's the best way to start for a cat to trust you.
I was going to post the same thing, this guys approach is all nervous and scared you cannot approach any animal like that, they will have you for lunch.
For the first one, at least for our cats since their more wild, we cant approach them unless we do it slowly and quietly which comes off as us being anxious or timid, it's the only way they let us get close enough to pet them

Cats can definitely feel betrayed, the same way they can feel scared, happy, sad and mad, which lets you know they indeed possess emotions.

I once had a little cat and she was so loving. Then I found another stray and took her in. My cat was very jealous and would not make friends with her, and would hiss at me. I only kept the second stray until I could find a home for her. But my cat continued to hiss at me, and eventually stopped hissing but never loved me the same again. She felt betrayed. Some cats just have to be your only "love", your only kitty.

It was a huge change for her. Cats are often cautious and even scared by sudden changes in their territory. Next time you should let her get used to it beforehand by letting her get used to the cat's smell before actually meeting the cat.

This is so sad. My cat is super attached to me too bcs i cared for him when he showed up at my house all skinny and malnourished. I can't imagine what it would be like if he hated me. I would literally feel super sad all the time.
So would I. I've never heard of this happening before. I'm used to seeing dogs going nuts with happiness when their pet parent comes back after 1 or 2 years in Iraq. That's a long time. Maybe this is unique to this cat. He's a smart cat at that, so I don't know.

Random story about one of my cats: When I first got my cat she was SUPER shy (she hid under my mom's bed for 5 hours) and did not trust us AT ALL but about 2 days later my papa came over to visit and when he saw our cat he just snatched her up in his arms and kinda scratched her head and pet her for a bit and she was just fine after that lmao

This happens to our dog.. before he’s okay when i pat his head and his bubbly when I’m around but when i returned from my summer vacation for 3 months.. every time i come closer to him or just by looking at him, he growls and want to attack me.. after that I don’t come near him because I’m scared that he will attack me. He’s okay with my family, even to other people he just met.. he’s just act like that towards me.

My Tiger became that way with me. He and I met when I was on my way to school. I took him out of the cold for the winter and he came to stay. Eventually I left to get a job in Nebraska and have been here since, but when I would go home to see my mom, either A) he did not recognize me anymore or B) he was deeply wounded by the fact I left him and was not a constant fixture in my life. I felt like a parent who abandoned a child and then expected everything to be normal every time I had a chance to see him.

Personally, I experienced the same thing when I left my cat to my father after 7 years of living together, she made my face but over time ⌛ and showing her that I still love her as much as she did. has become less distant but I still feel a certain grudge, life brings us to make difficult choices

First of all Austin felt betrayed by the son that he left him and went. He couldn't come home often because of increased workload and that made Austin get angry with him. When he returns home, Austin got scared of his gesture and started hissing. It's actually fear more than anger.

This happened to me too when I was moving after school back to my country. There was a duration of 6 months between I gave my cat to my mom and I got back home. When I got back home my cat hated me with the same attitude. When I moved to a house I took the cat too and it took several months for her to get back to kind of how she was before. She always held it against me though that I left her at some point. The cat sees it as a betrayal and will not listen to your explanation. It's very similar to a human relationship. Once you betray the person you're with, it's almost impossible to make things like how they were before. The cat will not come and attack you but will make sure you understand that she hates you every time you get close to her. Her love for you turns into hate when you take yourself away and leave her with the feeling of her loved one abandoning her. You betrayed me. You abandoned me. You made me love you and left me alone. You used me. I hate you. That's how the cat feels. Just respect her and let her be. Nothing you make will change her mind.
