  • I was little girl, when this was showing on Russian TV. My grandmother specifically got job at the train station in Siberia. She was hoping that one of the trains will brings her first husband. He was in army in the West border of USSR, when WWII started. She never knew what happened to him. But then she told me that trains full on German pows started arrive. They were like skeletons, many did not have any shoes. My grandmother hated them , but she couldn’t bare not to help. A lot of Russians started give POWs potatoes, some bread, water. She said that they were throwing food to them and cried. Her first husband never came back. Like many others. This war touched every Russian family. That’s why we hate, absolutely hate nazism. Any reminder of it makes me very angry.

    • Thank you for this testimony from which the noble heart, altruism and common good of the Russian people emerge. This can also be seen today on the battlefield of the Ukrainian front. Helping, sharing even the little they have is in the DNA of the Russian people. But after watching a dozen Russian war films, e.g. "Come and see", I would not have given that bread or drink to those prisoners. Because those were Nazis, bloodthirsty beasts, murderous monsters who wanted to destroy, exterminate, make themselves disappear from the face of the earth! Not to mention the millions of good guys and civilians barbarically killed by those beasts.

  • Saya penggemar film perang. Mantul bro Yassalam

  • The casting and makeup in this series is absolutely brilliant. I haven't seen one historical character that isn't a perfect replica for the person they're supposed to be playing - I'd love to hear the original dialog and just get the subtitles, it's all in the correct languages. The attention to historical detail is truly outstanding. Excellent series.

    • the actor who plays hitler does such a good job that sometimes it looks like you're watching actual documentary footage. not just the looks, but the mannerisms. he nailed hitler PERFECTLY and adapts in the later films too. he starts getting shakier and unsteady during the films set in the era where hitler's declining health had done that in reality. he does it so well, even nailing the tremor hitler got in his hands towards the end of his life.

  • Thank you for helping us, Americans, to remember the gallantry and sacrifice of the Red Army and the people of the USSR who rendered the defeat of the German fascists. We must remember also the sacrifice of the Chinese from 1937 against the Japanese. Rather than surrender, they finally forced Japan to attack Pearl Harbor in order to supply their army in China. The Russians and the Chinese armies and people defeated the fascist armies of WW2. They are in our hearts!

You realise of course that WW2 started when Russia and Germany decided to attack Poland together? That the Finns really kicked the Russians to hell? That the atrocities committed by the Russian Army were covered up? So ins some measure Germany fighting Russia - both reaped what they sowed.

    • This is actually history of spreading of communism on russian bayonets. It features war story of each postwar communist leader of Eastern Europe. Battle scenes are taken from Liberation. In fact this is a parallel move made by the same teams but with different main axis of narration. It's simply spinoff of Liberation.

  • Just came across this, seen 1 and 2 now, cannot wait for 3/4/5 as epic cinema, everyone looks like they should be and the telling of the story is pretty much historically accurate. I will have to look up more stuff from Mosfilm after getting through the next 3. These remind me off Waterloo film in its cinamatograghy.

  • What a film. A persective we westerners have singularly failed to take into account. The Russians lost 27 million odd people in the war. Vastly more than anyone else. Present events still not excused though.

    • Yes. You're right. There were more first line polish actors here though street execution scene at 16 minute is completely fake. At that time of war Germans hunted for people for forced labor. While there were still occupation terror it was not is such form. Most probably it was recreation of some Red Army attrocities that Ozerov managed to put the blame on Germans this move contains some careful dosing of truth.
