Samsung could change/fix some of the issues with firmware, so it may change in the future. That also brings risk of something else getting changed or broken with a firmware update though.
Especially since what we have learned over the last years is that Samsung TVs are typically at their best performance in early firmware. Not sure if it’s possible to revert if one decides to take an update and regrets it.
Both were playing content(film) in HDR10?
That's why I love Panasonic I have the LZ2000 for 2 years with 3 updates .
you should know that samsung brings down their tvs with future updates, not the other way around. You think that Lg is fool to not turn up the brightness without taking their safety measurements like samsung did .But now see what you get
The Samsung Firmware Update Clownshow is notorious. I had a Sammy BD player literally brick itself one Saturday morning performing a firmware update without any provocation. God bless the Costco electronics clerk who accepted it for a return/refund.
Great video. Couldn’t justify the S90D this year, been enjoying my C4.
Well done Classy! Exactly what I needed right now in looking to buy my first OLED!
I am starting to wonder if the S90D was nerfed in order to try to convince buyers to instead choose the S95D over the S90D. A battle between the S90C and S90D could sort this hypothesis out, and make the S90C and/or S89C even better value kings if your S90D is worse than the S90C and S89C.
Now you’re thinking ;)
you're killing it with these reviews classy
Dam didn't see this coming The C4 beating down a A QD oled , great job classy for nit being bias towards any tv manufacturer .
This is without MLA
I didn't realize that the professional tone mapping option was on the C4 as well as the G4. Makes me wonder if this feature might come to the C3/G3 next year when they get WebOS 2024. Has LG ever back-ported features like this? I know they say the older models will get Chromecast support so I wonder if this could come as well.
Great comparison video. Surprised by c4. Classy, as a monitor 42 inch size comparing c2 to c3, is the c2 just as good as c3 for use as a PC monitor? Thanks

Awesome work. Quick question...Does the wall mount of the G2 fit the G4
I'd like to see a side by side of C3 vs C4. Hard to believe there is that much difference.
They had to compete with the s90, they had no choice but to step up, shame we don’t get the newer chip in there though
In AV Forum's review of the C4 they found the same thing, that it is significantly better than the C3. A nice surprise after recent C series stagnation.
Glad i returned my c3!! C-series is back baby!
@@beammeupscottsp7952 giving c9 vibes lol
The speakers are significantly better on c4 compared to c3. Lg finally is improving their speakers on their tv's
Hey great vid classy! Is the C4 better than the G2 I have the G2 and was debating on upgrading. Thank you for your input.
Rather go for the g3 or wait for a price drop on the g4 rather :D
Thanks a lot. Hope you will soon create a video on the best settings for the Samsung S95D
KG just put out a long comparison of the s90d vs g4. He mentioned a couple times how the non gaming color brightness of the s90d was superior but the g4 whites were better while going through the modes. Does this mean right now the c4 has better colour volume then the g4 or are your specific calibration at play? I don't remember him finding a mode where the g4 was particularly better that way while you found the opposite result with the c4 vs s90d.
Good morning Classy!
I know on my cx, that out of game mode, with allm on, too much latency compared to game mode. So your saying that you can get the color saturation back and have the same level of latency as game mode on the c4? There must be a difference in lag out of game mode.
Classy I must say I love your videos, you’re everything Vincent should be, also LG seems to come for everyone’s neck this year.. Damnnn the difference is night and day here, I’ll be coming from a 65 A8H, will the processing and 3D look be much better on the C4 ? Also going 77 for immersion.
Is the c4 still more colorful when both are in standard and vivid mode? Samsung probably purposely kept the colors muted on the accurate modes to make the tv look more accurate. Also using the color booster setting may increase the saturation on the samsung.
On the LG, you can enable HGIG through the Windows Color Control app remotely as a setting for one of the non-GO modes. So you can use FMM+ HGIG for extra brightness and color, while retaining the true accuracy of HGIG. You just set it once and never need to use your PC again unless you turn HGIG off. This is the way.
Color Control connection to the TV will implement a flag in the service menu that can cause LG to deny warranty service. With the adjustable tone mapping options you no longer need to do that anyway. Just set 4000 mastering to 100 and set the game to 1000 nits and it will mimic HGiG.
@@ClassyTechCalibrations got it, but as you point out, your method isn’t as 100% accurate, but I suppose it’s a good compromise to avoid potential warranty issues.
@@westibbs it'll clip if the game supports console HGiG setting or has a working slider. If it's outputting higher than 1000 nits then it will still have some tone mapping, which is imo better anyway.
As long as the eotf will be tracked up to 1000 nits, the roll off with higher luminance values is irrelevant in this case of hgig
@@ClassyTechCalibrationsspeaking of warranty, does the C4 also include a 5 year warranty or is it only on the G4?
Classy, any caveats for the C4 in the 83in model? Liking the value for money I am seeing in the C4 vs the pricey G4 in my desired size.
Haven't seen it yet.
Wow, outside of game mode C4 looks significantly better to me.
Wonder if I should wait for the Sony 42 inch model

I honestly don't care for samsungs game mode as they usually have wacky color compared to their movie modes. I've actually been playing with game mode off when gaming on my s95b recently, much better colors when using bt.2020 in sdr. So if I got the lg I'd be totally fine keeping game mode off.
It's also better in game mode as it's more accurate anyway
Too much latency out of game mode. Even with allm turned on.
Definitely surprised by these results, but I think something is up with Samsung's color this year. I saw the S95D and S90C side by side at Best Buy yesterday and the S90C colors looked more saturated and popped more. Thought that was interesting.
Yeah that's because the matte screen reduces contrast and color.

G4 or S90D for gaming only (on PC)? Looking to replace my Sony A80J 55" for either a G4 or s90d in 77" Waiting for Black Friday to buy them, question is which is worth more for the money. Guess G4 is definitely gonna be much more expensive than S90D in 77"…
@ClassyTechCalibrations for the most part, could I follow your G3 settings video for the G4? I recognize it might be a bit before you get time to do a settings video
Mostly should be similar.
@@ClassyTechCalibrations thanks Classy. Just looking for a benchmark start since I just hung my G4. Look forward to watching your G4 content, setup and settings vids!
Wow the c4 is looking really good this year, great video well done.
welp, even the C4 STOMPS Samsung this year in terms of clarity and depth. I expected more out of the S90D here, but probably QTV was overhyping it.
Or lg just had a bigger gun
Most of us have expected the S90D to be better than the C4. The S90D is actually worse overall than last year’s models in terms of performance and accuracy. A few tweaks in the service menu as well as calibration and you have a better set than the S90D. I know we all talked about firmware updates gimping Samsung TV, but it’s already held back out the gate.
QTV is a joke
@@icemanandbobtechandgamingHow do you know this? Did you measure the color accuracy yourself?
@@verttisyrjala2897 Yes, I am a hobbyist calibrator and have the means to do so. The S90D does not perform better than last year’s models across the board. In a few areas of measurement yes, but not in real world content. Btw, measurement numbers are meaning less and less in terms of actual content, this is why we don’t speak or show it as much anymore. One set will measure higher and perform worse, be less bright, and etc in real world content.
Thanks Classy🎉
how's the uniformity on the LG C4...and how do you know if the S90D is a QD-OLED panel?
YO Classy TECH... IS THERE ANY CHANCE YOU CAN SWITCH OUT THE GPU AND MOTHERBOARD FROM LG G3 TO LG G4 ...
Wow that’s incredible the C4 looks well more impressive the game mode sure is lacking but if can use filmmaker mode on games for same brightness and colour that’s perfect 👌 so instead me setting 800nits for HGIG HDR game mode, I use 1000nit on HDR outside game mode not 4000nit or until all blocks have same brightness? Thanks also can this be used on the C3 4:39
There are some reports out there claiming the C4 10% window goes over 1000 nits. Curious where it clips on the ps5/XSX system level calibration. Still 14 clicks / 800 nits on ps5?
Excellent comparison, it seems that because the S90D uses both WOLED and QD-OLED panels, they nerfed this year's QD-OLED outside of game mode, not surprising, because Samsung already does this with Galaxy smartphones that use both Exynos and Snapdragon. For example, you won't get Wi-Fi 7 on the S24+ Snapdragon variant, because the Exynos variant doesn't have a Wi-Fi 7 compatible modem.
Stop making excuses fanboy LG just has the best oleds period.
@@kingyogesh441The S90D is literally a more capable tv, just with bad processing.
Thanks Classy .. you're tough but fair.. excellent excellent content!!
Classy! Hope all is well. I'm torn. I have a 42C2 i use for work and gaming. I was thinking of upgrading to a 32" QD OLED monitor (one of the 2024 models). Then I started thinking of perhaps using a 55" Samsung QD OLED. Then I was thinking maybe that is too big. With this video, im thinking of swapping the 42C2 to a 42C4. Or even to the 48C4. What i like about the C series - 4 x hdmi 2.1 ports, glossy screen, dolby vision, apps built in. The QD Oled monitor has a bit higher peak brightness, better color luminance, higher refresh rate, a bit more comfortable screen size. The QD OLED tv would be the brightest, high color luminance, but I'd be about 3 feet away (if gaming, i could probably scoot back but while working, id be about 3-4 feet from the screen). Hmm. Or just stay with the 42C2? Help!
I had similar considerations, and 42C4 is the best overall option. The monitors are not actually brighter either, they only measure 1k nits in tiny window sizes and the APL luminance is lower
Oh damn!! G4/C4 Black Friday plus ps5 pro this year 😎

Same C4/PS5P all the way
@@aideyl9626 Usually prices come down a bit after 3 months for the "C" models ... by BF it should be around $400/500 off the original price. I am guessing the PS5 Pro is going to be somewhere between $550 and $600/650 tops ... dont think Sony is going to ask like $700 for the Pro, that would be ridiculous. So by BF, in November, an C4 55 inch + a PS5 Pro should be around $2000, maybe a bit less with some discounts here and there. Prices are different between the U.S. and Europe. Anyhows, we ll see!
How does the C4 compare to the G2.
Love to see this same review once the 42in S90D releases.
42" Sony A90k and 42" LG C4 are now the same price (LG is $100 more). I can imagine the C4 edges it out in brightness, as did the C3, but what about sharpness and detail? Is the processing in the A90k still better since the C4 didn't get the a11 chip? I'm still debating between them even though the A90k is 2 years old.
im ready
You said the grey scale was good classy do that mean banding ? I watched dune 2 on my lg c3 and on my s90c and some very dim desert scenes I could see those annoying bars on the screen as it panned across the desert on my lg but not the qd oled but I prefer the lg for motion … if they significantly improved this I would switch back
Why the color luminance drops so hard on gamemode on c4? On your first few mins, I love the c4 image but while gaming, i am getting sad. I want to replace my cx48 for c4 42 this year but I mostly play pc games on it…
Burn in protection maybe?
LG finally upped their game with the C series, eh? They weren't available in Canada when I was looking to buy, so I went with the S90D thanks to the crazy good deal I got on it. I do remember you mentioning that your S90D was crushing black a bit in the early stages of you having it, and it looks like I'm having the same issue. I did a pixel refresh after about a week of using it, and haven't noticed too much of a difference. It's not by any means terrible, but it's noticeable, and I don't want to crank up shadow detail to much if I can avoid it. Any recommendations on how to possibly remedy this issue?
Crazy never expected that. How do both tvs compare to the S90C because i would pick one up literally right know if it's worth it. It's discounted and my C3 is getting sent back tomorrow (can't stand the colour tinting). Would really appreciate your advice. Use case is watching content/gaming (70/30)
At this point I would recommend the S90C/S89C, especially for the lower prices.
Thanks a lot. Is there a possibility for the S90D to be fixed with a firmware update. And does the S90C still beat the C4 in brightness and colour luminance/saturation. Sorry for bothering just want to make a well informed purchase 😅
@@bilalbiriri6596 yes they could change it in firmware. I would be concerned about them breaking something else in the process but if not, then it could get better. I'll try to compare the S90C to the C4 when I'm back from vacation later this month.
@@ClassyTechCalibrations Got you. Thanks a lot for the help. 👍
@ClassyTechCalibrations quick question, do you still have to break in a QDoled a certain amount of hours Before Calibrating??
Some yeah. Comp cycles are the best to get done over straight hours.
@@ClassyTechCalibrations Ty brotha. I appreciate it.
Classy, I still have a 77” A80J . Would it be an upgrade to get the C4 ?
I had a 65 A80J and recently returned my C3. It was definitely brighter but the A80J had better screen uniformity (no colour tinting) upscaling motion (if you like a lot of motion smoothing the lg will be better because it has less artifacts with high levels of Interpolation), preservation of detail and the menu/os was much faster.
I have the same tv. I'm still hanging on for another year or two. You can probably compare the two on Rtings but I don't think there is enough in it to justify getting a new tv atm.
could be hgig the problem in game mode? what if you set dtm to off and rolloffpoints to 100%?
What about for Sports? upscaling? Best for Football?
I want a triple display simracing setup and torn between C4 42 inch or the new 32 inch QDOled 240hz displays. Worried the brigtness/reflections of the new QDoleds bouncing of each other will grey out the black. Are my worries justified?
42" size would be amazing for immersion in a racing sim
Does the S90D use AI upscaling..would've that be better than LG C4's processing?
damn the c4 is bussin. makes me regret just getting the C3 77" but i did get it for $1950 including tax and shipping.
Classy, you’re an absolute beast🔥🔥🔥🔥 pure facts! not personal opinions!
I have a LG CX for 4 years now and wanted to upgrade. I can't decide which to upgrade, the 95c or the S90d. I don't want to go with LG this time because of the banding in colours and woled screen is not as colourful as qd oled. Which one would you recommend?
S90C is my main recommendation.
@@ClassyTechCalibrationsnice thanks for replying

The QD-Oleds always have a pink tint on camera, it doesnt show in real life except for blacks when there is direct light pointing at the TV. Not sure why its so visible on camera.
Game mode on LG strangely dull. Need to check this
What would you rather get 65” g3 or the c4?
G3 still better than C4
C4 vs G3 next 😎
It's going to be "LG is actually very close". And possibly beats it in processing. Otherwise, it would be expected. Since last year the Samsung S90C was a clear winner in most ways, especially for gaming.
I wasn’t even considering the c4 hmmmmmm… wonder if the 83 will be at same level
Thus far. How bright does the c4 get? And did you have a 77 inch?
Do the Samsung OLED panels come from LG Display?
Depends…if it is QDO, it’s a Samsung Display panel/tech. If it’s a WRGB OLED (new this year in Samsungs line up) it’ll be a LG Display panel/tech.
It is good that you talk about FMM for gaming. I have been playing on my G3 with FMM+Allm+HGIG(using colorcontrol)+4:4:4 since day 1. Latency using FMM has never been a problem at all. Many youtubers talked about that without any proof. It was a big lie. Moreover LG FTDA is a game changer for HDR gaming. Most people do not realize how important it is to fix black level floor. Conclusion:despite all the BS said last year, the G3 is absolutly amazing for PC GAMING. However for console players, HGIG cannot be used with FMM. I am so glad I did not buy a samsung oled. Why ? For me HGIG and FTDA are 2 essential features for HDR gaming that bring a massive visual improvment. Also, being able to play with FMM is a great option for better color accuracy. In my eyes, the only weak point for my G3 is that color banding can be seen sometimes in few specific scenario. So that needs to be improved.
Hgig can be used for consoles in fmm, what are you talking about. I did it with the C3 and PS5.
It could be that because the S90D sells both WRGB and RGB panels, Samsung was applying a common tone mapping mode for both types of panels, and that this tone mapping was more oriented to the characteristics of the lower WRGB and that is why in a panel RGB with higher brightness and color volume specifications, is the applied tone mapping excessively aggressive?
Could be. Seems like they screwed up this tv this year.
I think i saw a KZhead video that the s90d is panel variation. You may get a qd-oled made by samsung or a woled made by lg and no matter the size. I would say you have a woled s90d as the c4 shouldn't be able to be better. Maybe you can zoom in to the pixels to see the structure then you know for sure which panel you got.
No, all 55/65 that are released in North America are QD OLED. It was definitely verified as a QD OLED.
It's a weird situation then, the s90c looked much better compared to a c3 in the store and on the videos online
@@Mile91903 yes, S90C was better than C3. The change in tone mapping could be changed in a firmware update on the S90D so we'll see what happens later on. Who knows if they will break something else if they do that though.

presumably due to the extra m/s of input lag, but what none of the reviewers are telling us, last year or this year (that I have seen anyway), is what the actual m/s difference in lag is between game mode and other full colour luminance modes. Will it even make any difference to the average gamer?

Perfectly happy with my Black Friday Samsung S90C 55".
Is the problem with LG's gaming mode so limiting that you prefer the Sony A90K even if it's two years old? or is C4 better than Sony? too bad Sony no longer makes 42"
I do not usually recommend the A90K. The C series is brighter and a better monitor/gaming display.
I have the LG C3 great tv but is the c4 worth an extra 1,000$?
how's the uniformity on the C3...is the panel clean?
i'm happy the color has improved on the lg, i found the c3 to look a bit washed against the s90c, but this improvement combined with that clarity i can live with 😍, and is just me or does LG just do something different with their whites, all their TV's in every category has some ridiculous whites.
That s90d definitely has a woled panel.
Why does both tv's keep showing Samsung at the top right?
I just wish the picture qaulity could be the same across game and movie modes.....
Geez, the G4 should kill the QD oleds this year, if this is any indication. I thought the S90D would smoke the C4. Maybe if it's in it's brightest and not accurate mode, it will look better for most?
Don't be so sure. I think Samsung gimped the s90d to create a clear and bigger separation between it and s95d. The s90c was basically as good as the s95c. As was the s89c
Is S90C still the buy?
After owning my C1 for years now, i can't see myself buying anything other than a C series again. Went to my local target and saw a C3 blow away everything else on the wall(including the Sonys). They just have this clarity to them, its like looking through a clean window. All other TV's look dirty by comparison. This is the first time I've ever developed brand loyalty.
So the c4 is actually a better value than a qd oled this year? That must hurt Samsung fanatics ego😂
LG is pushing these panels to their limit, charging more, no mla, and didn't even bother putting in a heatsink. Anyone not skipping this generation of both these tvs deserves to get scammed.
@@JohnSmith-ro8hk For half the world bodes well Panasonic Z93A 77" , it won't be MLA, but a evo and best in class heat sink , should be complete option for some ( especially if use TV sound ) , as will do a 1000NITS HDR easily . Still hope for discounted 83" G4

Improvements to C4 brings the question: Discounted G3 vs new C4? 👀
G3 still the better of the two.
Qd oled are on the larger models. The new 42 and 48 get the wrgb which is a shame. I think ill be going for the lg 48.
I was thinking the same. I have a 42C2 and apparently the 42C4 is brighter so the 48 should be a decent upgrade in size and brightness. I use it for work and gaming. I entertained the thought of a 55S90D (55S90C's are all gone) but may be too big.
Is it worth buying a Samsung s90d or is it better to buy a Samsung s90c at a lower price.
