KORUA Shapes - Eleven By One - A Film By Morgan Maassen

IIXI or “Eleven By One” is a collection of eleven one-minute vignettes that each stand on their own, but are also designed and created to fit into a greater body of work. Each vignette is curated to encompass and tell a cohesive story of a winter spent turning on snow with our friends of the KORUA family.
During the 2021/22 season we partnered with talented and accomplished filmmaker Morgan Maassen to produce a conceptual short film that serves to capture and celebrate the details of style, turning, surroundings, and emotions - all the elements that make up our own little universe of snowboarding. As a filmmaker, Morgan is not merely a capturer of stunning visuals, but a standout talent for his ability to convey and evoke emotions through his keen eye and curious attention to the essence and fragments of a subject - in this case, snow (and boarding).
As a result the viewer is presented with a deeply intimate and thoughtful insight into our take on snowboarding, the environment we move in, the characters that make up our family and their different approaches to snowboarding in the Alps. We hope you enjoy the ride!

  • Crazy how differently this hypes me up for snowboarding compared to the YFT series. I feel this movie put more emphasis on the beauty of being out, a more balanced depiction of what makes snowboards fun. Watched it the night before my first turns of the season, I feel it put me exactly in the right mood! Thanks Korua.

  • What we all anticipated and finally got made me think a lot. The boards nearly disappeared ... in clouds of frozen water. I have to confess: The short episodes are confusing - even more due to the sound frame - because our mind wants to following a stringent story. Last weekend I surfed the pocket rocket down a pow hill on a foggy day. The first day in the new season wasn't close to perfect conditions, but know what ... I got reconnected to the elements and to people sharing the same passion. That's what I realized after watching the video: it's about reconnecting and sharing. Thank you and ride on!

  • Year 2022 - still no helmets. 😔 Have you ever thought about the influence you have on Kids or any person watching this. The invisible rock or ice block under the snow does Not care about your age, your gender or your skills. The more you get popular, the more you guys are an Idol to people. 90’s are a long time ago - helmets are okay to wear these days. No reason you are uncool. It is time for you to be responsible Idols! 🏂 Nice Videos though, more art than about your Snowboards, i do like that.

  • Total disappointment! Love all you guys have done so far but this one doesn't reach by far the quality of your previous productions. Slow and boring, great for an art show but doesn't have the spark of Korua. Looking forward for the next one cause this one is not the one I'll watch a million times in a row like I did with all your previous videos.

    • I admire the effort that went into making it but it just left me flat after watching it. A bit slow and really missing the energy and power of the riders from the previous films. Sorry for the negative comment, but that’s how I felt. Taking the Dart to Japan in February should cheer me up.

    • Thank you for the feedback, much appreciate your honesty. This film certainly stands in contrast to the fast-paced nature of Yearning For Turning, an intentional shift towards drawing more attention to detail and leaving a lot of room to breath and enjoy - something Morgan does magnificently with his films. We're always excited to explore different approaches and ways of capturing snowboarding and hope that resonates in some way nonetheless. Have fun snowboarding this winter!

  • Worked great on about 6"-8" of average snow starts to struggle a bit past 8". kzhead.infoUgkxoHYZbq5g9fkcAtinlTqstNlje-UQkCHN Very light weight and the chute spin control works well. For the low price you get a ton of value. My only complaint is managing the cord as it does take a fair bit of effort to watch and pull the cord out of the way. I found myself having to whip the cord out of the way a lot when I needed to make one way passes to mange the blow direction. It's less of an issue when you can work both directions. A battery powered version would be a lot easier to handle but that is also double the price and requires battery care. I chose the corded version so I didn't have to worry about batteries but I do now see how much work the cord is. I let my neighbor borrow it and it outperformed his smaller gas blower, he was totally sold. Very pleased with the power and operations. My only suggestion is to spend a bit more on a cordless version if you have budget for it. The cord is a bit more of a headache than I thought it would be. Very pleased with the Snow Joe brand and quality.
