In early 2022 after buy our 40 acres in Southeast Louisiana, the previous owner suggested we look into having the pine trees thinned out. He stated he was looking into it but decided to leave it to the buy. His thinking would be that we would get some return on the property with the harvested trees. We did as he suggested but due to Covid and the rising cost of everything and I do mean everything, the return was at a break even between the timber company and us. So much for the plans we had if the return on timber was good. Well anyway this video was back in October of 2022. Needless to say it was a learning experience. In all it took a couple of weeks and they were on to the next job. I may have misquoted myself on some things, so it can serve as a disclaimer right? Oh well hope you enjoy.

  • I live in Central Mississippi, and we have a very small market for pulpwood. It is nearly impossible to get someone to do a first thinning. Enjoyed the video.

    • It was a valuable lesson for me. With that said I will do business differently if I choose to do a second thinning or more. hank you very much.

    • @@retiremann1031 timber is the only commodity that isn’t publicly traded. It puts the land owner at a huge disadvantage to be taken advantage of.

    • @@realrural7876 oh absolutely. It is totally backwards in my opinion. Its the owners property and the timber company is working for the owner. They left my property in total disarray. Did not honor what I asked them to do by keeping all the cut rows open. Instead, there are down trees that didn’t go for pulp wood both pines and trash trees, that are blocking rows of trees that were cut. Making it impossible to access my property. Then they piled the dead trees up to close to living pines which is going to make it hard to burn. I suppose that is normal to be left behind, I don’t know. All this and no control over what takes place at the drop off point at the lumber mill. Copies of records were given to us much later after they left the job site. Never again for me.

  • Videos that only show partial screens or little blocks like this one truely stink. I stopped watching after 10 seconds.

    • Sorry you didn’t like it. I’m an amateur at best and don’t claim to be a professional and taking videos and editing as well. To share my life experience for what it’s worth. God bless.
