A review of my 2020 Ski Doo Expedition Extreme after 3 seasons of ownership and use. I go over the pros and cons, my likes and dislikes, any problems I've had. And my final overall thoughts, opinions, and experiences with the machine. Hope this helps anyone looking into picking one of these beasts up!
I have this same machine with 3 Quebec trips and 5200 miles on it. It uses a qt of oil approximately every 140 miles, fuel economy is controlled by your right thumb, can get 13.5 mpg if you are smooth with the throttle, I totally disagree about these deep snow skis that come on the sled, if you like darting , especially slowing down they are great...put Simmons gen 1 skis on this sled,and it's like a razor blade, you will never make a bigger improvement to the sled. The track is silent and the traction is mind bending, you can rise with anyone on this sled, it's an incredible sled. Zoller Racing Products make a set of 1 inch offset spindles for this sled and back countries and they make it handle 3 times better with no inside ski lift cornering, you can really ride this sled quite aggressively and everyone who rides it comes off it with a big smile, you really don't need to know anymore. Low gear is great and I have pulled a lot of stuck sleds out with ease...the rear bumper is junk and will bend like a pretzel if you try to tow with it, you need the 300 dollar up grade...sled has been bullet proof and is the best touring sled I have ever ridden , perfect for Quebec trips as it can haul a lot of gear effortlessly, the XRS front shocks off a backcountry are an incredible upgrade and you can use the same springs , very nice sled when you get up to a foot of fresh snow...no problem with this sled and all your friends will be glad you were there to break trail, I put the extendable medium to high windshield on as well as the glove box extension and garmin GPS with Trak Maps and gauntlets...it's my go anywhere anytime sled and with a fuel caddy 160 miles a tank is very doable, a very nice feeling, if you are thinking about this sled ...just do it...it may look like grand dads sled...but it's going to put a big smile on your face...everyone who rides it gets on it with 1 expectation and off it with a totally different experience...ski doo hit a grand slam here...and they are selling really well in Canada...also you just cannot believe how well it rides and turns...you keep looking back at stops not believing all that 154 inches is there...you'd never know it...and the ride quality...probably the very best on snow!!

And you are right...you can drive the hell out of it, and then you get off and look at the size of the machine and length of the track and your brain just can't accept what it is capable of haha!
Also ride in Eastern Quebec, last year model, have owned dozens.. this one by FAR outshines everything else, especially towing and off trail..
Ordering one this week 2024 900 turb R. Get some!! I can’t wait to run the trap line, fish, Haul whatever and have a blast while doing it. 🫡
Great review. I just bought a 2021 used with very low mileage. Traded in my 2015 renegade. Can’t wait for the snow. I watched all your ski doo videos. Great stuff

Thanks man appreciate it! Never done a video like that before haha. If I could go back I would try and do a bit better and make it a bit shorter. But it seems to be doing ok👍. Good choice on your machine. The 4 stroke is a bit more pleasant to drive for noise and vibration etc.

Right on that's awesome congrats on the new machine! If you want something for work and play and long trips there is no better option IMO. I'm sure you will love it! It's served us very well!

If you want an all around machine it's pretty hard to beat. No regrets buying mine.

I just purchased my first ever Ski-doo, a 2023 Expedition SE and I'm very much looking forward to it, particularly the two-up trail capability with my wife and the ability to get in to some of our smaller remote lakes. BTW...I work for Cat so I'm a little partial, but I like your ballcap.
Thanks brother👍. We came close to getting the SE as well. The SE was at one dealer, and the Xtreme was at another. I wanted a 2 stroke for old times sake. But the SE was so loaded with accessories it was hard to pass up. I told that to the dealer with the Xtreme and they gave me a super good deal on the Xtreme and included most of the accessories that came on the SE. If it wasn't for that I would have an SE right now. But anyways, that's awesome man I'm happy for you! The SE is one hell of a machine!

@@SideX_Each Yes sir. They offered the 900 ACE, the 850 and the 900 Turbo. Easy choice for me. Call me nostalgic for the smell!! Something about a 2-stroke!
@@snorelacks7069 I agree about the smell haha. Brings back memories! Nothing like a suit and clothes that smell like 2 stoke oil. Not near as smelly as they were back on the day, but it's there👍. The 850 knocks about 40 pounds off the machine too. Throttle response is awesome. No fly by wire. Still have the mechanical throttle cable which I like.

That's awesome! Would be cool to try one of the turbos! As far as the 135 cargo box, definitely worthwhile if you plan on carrying gear. One of the best accessories of all time imo if you want a versatile machine👍

Haven't had to really do much to it knock on wood haha. After that video I did change the sliders, they were due for sure around 3500 miles and wouldn't have made it very far into this season. Was pretty easy. No need to remove the suspension, was able to slide them through the track. But spark plugs are on the list after the first ride this year.
@@SideX_Each changing plugs, fluid changes (chain case, break?) videos would be really helpful. Even removing primary clutch and stripping down would be helpful. I know some guys do that as part of summer maintenance to clean and maintain the spring (I realize probably not needed) but would be helpful to see. There’s probably some videos already on KZhead showing that. Thanks again from The NWT!
@@nonipaulette4520 The plan is, hopefully avoid most of that this year haha. Seriously considering ordering an Expedition Xtreme this spring with the 900 Turbo R for next year. But I will film what I do👍. I think I would rather be up there with you. Get that much more farther away from the madness in this world that gets worse by the day lol...

Great, comprehensive review Side X Each. Well done! I'm in the market for one of these used. I see some of the ones listed as having new motors. Usually around the 6-7000 kms mark. Is this something I should be aware of? Do you know of any recalls or issues with these engines? Thanks
Nothing specific I know of. But I have seen these engines go over 20,000 km as long as they are not to the pin 90% of the time like on a mountain sled. Any luck finding one? Sorry, I'm wayyy behind on comments haha...

I have the same sled with a little over 5k miles purchased new. My dealer installed studs and they worked great. Unfortunately i had a track failure from a pretty agressive hil climb where I hooked up with a stump pretty hard at about 5000 miles. I decided to go with an ice cobra which is decent but no substitute for the full on pics. Woody's makes pics that will fit the 1.8.

@upnorthkenny9674 love it and not ready to part with it. 7400 miles now...got a new engine under warranty 300 miles ago. Didn't blow up but wouldn't cool properly so they just replaced it. What the heck right!
Thanks for the review! How do you feel about the lighting - wondering if adding on some of the available lighting options would be wise with my order? Also how do you find the Oxygen Helmets?
Sorry for the late reply brother. I don't ride a whole lot at night. But never had an issue with the headlight. I do like the Oxygen helmet for the wide view. And also it is designed for people who wear glasses, it has a spot for the legs and keeps them from getting squished into the side of your head. Also love the built in bib/wind breaker thingy, definitely makes a huge difference keeping wind off your neck. But not a cheap helmet. I would definitely try one on at a dealer before dropping that kind of cash. Hope you enjoy your new machine!
I do quite a bit of riding in the dark. You will never miss something you never have but once you add/upgrade the lights you will never look back. A little more expensive but the auxiliary high beam lights up by the windshield are much better than the led light bar that goes across below the headlights. I have had both but now only use the auxiliary’s on both mine and my wife’s sled. Also when travelling in nasty weather the brighter light is great for watching those following you so no one gets lost. Maybe that’s not a consideration for you where you are but it is for me.

When it comes to trail riding if the back portion of the skid is left to float do you find you fight to keep the front end on the ground? I get that some guys like to wheelie, but I'd be more interested in keeping the skis planted with razor sharp handling. Can you get this out if this skid with the right settings? Does the sled push if you lock the rear skid to stop the articulation?
I would say the sled turns better than expected for the size, weight, and length of it. It can shred trails quite well. Although the front end will come up with enough throttle for sure, but you're not usually smashing the throttle mid corner. You could counter that for sure with suspension settings. But either way, not a deal breaker or a big deal really.
I pick mine up tomorrow!

@@SideX_Each Yep, out here in Saskatchewan we've got lots of snow yet. I had planned on spring ordering for next year but everyone was sold out! Lucky a dealer nearby had a late in season delivery so it was now of never.
@@jayfxdx You did get lucky for sure! Not easy to find anything these days. The season here on Ontario was over about 2 weeks ago unfortunately and it was a pretty lame short season. Back to side x sides for a few months. Happy for you man I'm sure you will love the new machine! It's definitely very useful for anything and everything.
So you ordered a standard 2-up seat? I can’t get the heated version due to back order issues. Was it difficult to add the heating options?
No it was a pretty easy install. Maybe 30 minutes. Bretty basic...

You could yes. But the cost of buying all the stuff in pieces separately to do it would make the cost absolutely INSANE! Not practical at all. You would be much better off trading and getting a 2023 Turbo R model.
I’m looking to buy expedition extreme do you know where there are any for sale?
I think I saw a brand new 900 Turbo R Xtreme for sale in Sudbury Ontario a few days ago. I'm considering trading in for a 900R model after this season. Bit more heavy but 15 more hp. I just wanted 1 more 2 stroke in my life at the time I bought the one in the video. But the wife would appreciate not smelling 2 stroke oil anymore haha. Tough to find anything these days as I'm sure you know.

It sucks serious ass if you get stuck lol. Not so bad with other guys, but alone could be a bad time for sure!
