    • What Clannad/afterstory took 50+ episodes and multiple OVAs to show a sad story, character build-up and ending, Violet Evergarden only needed at least 13 (especially episode 10). Try thinking about that, buddy.

  • I am Japanese. Because I am poor at English, there may be a wrong place, but please forgive me. I like this anime very much. Last time I went to see a movie. It is a wonderful work to cry from 5 minutes starting. I am glad to be able to sympathize with these people around the world. Thanks to this work that changed my life.

  • Wrote this after finishing the series, please enjoy: A girl with mechanical arms sits silently by the window. Rays of sunlight pierce through the clouds, landing on the edge of the window’s façade and casting a lurid silhouette of the girl’s slim figure. Although dressed in the elegant uniform of an auto memories doll, her astute posture still carries some reminiscence of her past life as a soldier. Winds blow by, seemingly carrying something shiny amidst the chill, autumn air. Click, click, click, the sound of mechanical fingers striking the cold, brass keys of a typewriter. The girl raises her head from the cascade of letters and looks at the window. The autonomous typing noises ceased, replaced by the soft gushing of the passing wind. A year has passed since she parted with Major Gilbert during the Battle of Intense. To this day, however, his last words still linger by her ear. “From the bottom of my heart, I love you.” What did he mean by this? The girl continues to allow her sight to wander from cloud to cloud, as if hoping to find an answer among the azure sky. Somewhere under this vast dome, she hopes, the Major is also looking up, seeking transparent strands of possibilities for a reunion. If only the wind could carry my thoughts to Major, the girl clenched her emerald pin with her teeth. Slowly, she lowered her sight back down to the table. The metallic surface of her hands glistened under the sunlight. She had lost both of her arms during the battle. The girl turns her palms. How many lives have my hands ceased? Could many of them have also carried similar feelings to that of Major’s? Unconsciously, pools of tears started swirling at the corner of her eyes. Am I worth the title of an auto memories doll? Maybe she really is just a doll. Beneath her elegant skin, she holds no comprehension of the vicissitudes of emotions nor the complexities of human thought. During the war, gunshots and the sound of flak cannons have been her lullaby, the commands of superiors her guidance, and the mission to kill her purpose. After the war ended, she remains an empty shell, devoid of value and the ability to understand the workings of human hearts. Major, she sobbed, please. I need one more command from you. Thump. She noticed something has dropped onto the floor. It was the parasol she received from the writer, who saw in her his deceased daughter. She bent down to replace the parasol back onto the shelf, but found her hands clenching onto the handle. Suddenly, memories started to flood into her mind. Memories not from the turmoil of war, but from her journeys as an auto memories doll. In front of her eyes appeared the smile of Luculia, who conveyed her hard-spoken feelings to her brother through a brief yet heavy wishing letter; the affirming grin of Iris, who summoned courage in letting go of her ego and expressing her true thoughts to her family through the apology letter; the face of the princess, who stepped out of the masquerade of language to deliver her authentic love for her prince; the beam of hope reflected on Leon’s face, who formed the resolve to relinquish himself from his self-restraining moral obligations and pursuit his own dream of traveling the world; the look of catharsis within the writer’s weathered eyes, as he found resolution and inner-peace upon the acceptance of her daughter’s - and his own - fate; the powerful figure of Ann’s mother, who, although stricken by terminal diseases, instilled her everlasting love for Ann into 50 post-mortem letters in her final days; the withered face of Aidan, who passed his emotions and longings onto the delivery of his final oral messages... And - finally - the face of Major’s mother, who softly said, “[Major] is alive, within my heart. I will never forget him, for that I love him.” Tears have now fallen from the girl’s elegant face, dropping onto letters on the table and becoming one with the typewriter’s ink. Although the hands that have conveyed so many people’s sentiments might be made of metal, the words typed for each letter contain nothing but true, human emotions. Slowly but steadily, droplets of ink consolidated into flowing streams, filling an empty space within the doll-like girl’s heart. What happened in the past cannot be changed. The anguish and grief are irrefutable, but so are longings and hope. We may not know the right answers to our emotions, or what the future may lead to, but we will continue to live, to seek, and to feel what it is that we call “love.” As an auto memories doll - no, as Violet Evergarden - I will forever cherish my memories with Major and the people whom I have met. These feelings will forever live in my heart, driving me forward to the day where I shall see you again. Wiping away her tears, the girl continues to work on the typewriter. This time, touching the keys feels warmer than ever. Autumn passes. Winter goes by.   • 命は勿論大切なものだけど、それをより実感させて、感動させてくれたのがヴァイオレット・エヴァーガーデンっていう作品でした。そのアニメを作ってくれた人たちが命を散らしたかもしれないのです。そして、ヴァイオレットのような子がうまれてしまったかもしれない、そう思うと、とても悲しいです。

  • I don’t cry … ever. When I binged Violet Evergarden (all episodes and movies) I must’ve cried continuously for an hour. This is the only anime that has ever hit me that hard. And God bless Evan Call for giving us one of the most beautiful soundtracks I’ve ever heard. This is including the ones by John Williams, Hans Zimmer, and James Horner. Words cannot describe how highly I feel about this anime. It truly is on another level.

  • I think the "cliffhanger" in this show is there for a reason. The feeling of dissatisfaction in the end, I think, is the point. Telling us that it is the general would only turn it cliche'. Feeding us everything we WANT to hear is CERTAINLY not what this anime does and that is a good thing in its own right. You can't argue that this anime did one of those painful cliffhangers, the story would work perfectly without us knowing who that was. If that was the general, her discovery of emotion and the pain she goes through would lose its value. She would have suffered for less of a reason.

  • When I first started learning touch typing, I discovered this anime. As a beginner, I struggled to improve my typing skills, but then I saw Violet master typing with her mechanic hands, where every keystroke counted, and there was no room for error. Her dedication and skills inspired me to keep trying. Thanks to this anime, I was able to improve my typing speed from a mere 20 words per minute to over 60 words per minute. It might not sound like a lot, but it was a significant accomplishment for me. I am grateful for discovering this anime as it played a role in helping me develop an essential skill and I havend even mentioned the beautiful story it had(I have cried multiple times while watching it).

    • Black Clover shows the same thing. Tons of animes share the same message, just in different ways. Violet is a Beautifull Anime for a lot more reasons than that.

  • 沢山のアニメを見てきて沢山感動してきました、ですが身体の内側の底から震え上がる感じがして無意識にぐわぁっと涙がでてきて、涙を止めることができず、最後はとても幸せな気持ちになったのはこの作品が初めてです。勿論他の作品も素敵で、生きていく上で大切な作品沢山あります。

  • I loved how they just put subtle hints that Violet was already gone in the movie like the usage of past tence in Daisy's coversation with the man working at the post office going "There WAS once a famous doll in this island" and Violet's ribbon tied to a tree where I assume she might be buried under with the major. It maybe sad but it's kinda beautiful in a way. (heck it is beautiful)

  • By far, this anime has to be one of the most emotional and thought-provoking animes to have been released in 2018-dare I say in all history. Violet Evergarden is unique in its own way where it does not follow an extremely strict plot. You are there for the journey and you are there to watch a little girl learn what it's like to accept her humanity, to feel the growing pains of maturation, to understand what it's like to take responsibility for one's actions and see all consequences through with dignity. I believe that Violet Evergarden shows us much more than what loss and grief looks like. Violet Evergarden teaches us that we may not have all the right answers and do everything perfectly, especially when we are dealing with such loss and sorrow; however, we continue to live and breathe and grow... because we can. We are there to live and the memories of our past should not be there to hold us back. No, instead, they should be used to empower us so that we may live and embark on our own journeys. Where does your journey begin?

Violet Evergarden hits me as much as it does because Violet has only one goal in her life which is to learn what "I love you" means. It appears to me that at the last shot of the final episode she's shocked (implying the major is still alive). She achieved the one thing she lived for. I am sure of few things in life but one is that I will never find anything that's even comparable to how beautiful her story was. That's why it's gonna suck. I'm an emotional perfectionist.

  • This came up on my recommended, even though I've never watched anything like Violet Evergarden on KZhead. I'm glad it did. It reminded me of the wonderful series, and everything that came with it. I couldn't be happier that my sister introduced me to this one day. Spoilers for those who haven't watched this amazing journey yet. Something that hit hard for me, that stayed in my memory after over a year of silence on my part, was when Violet helped a mother. She helped write letters for her daughter, to give to her after her mother died. Nothing made me cry as much as Violet Evergarden has. I'll cherish it forever. As for the letters? Maybe I'll start writing, for my sister.

  • Coming back.. Its been a while since that mass murder of Kyoani. I guess Violet Evergarden was the anime I find that is most successful in Kyoani because..   • 이 애니를 보면서 참 많이도 울었던 듯 싶다. 도입부는 조금은 답답함과 적당한 스토리 전개, 그리고 여타 애니와 사뭇 다른 분위기까지... 이러한 익숙치 않은 느낌으로 인해 흥미를 잃을 때 즈음부터 잔잔히 밀려오는 감동, 애절함, 감정이입, 공감 등등... 말로 표현하기 어려울 정도의 복잡한 감정들이 보이지 않는 끈으로 에버가든과 나 사이를 연결시킨다. 그러한 묵직한 감정들로 인해 OST를 듣거나 애니의 커버 이미지를 볼 때면 가슴이 조여오며, 나도 모르게 눈가가 촉촉해진다. 다시 보고 싶지만 그러기엔 많은 용기가 필요한 명작이었다.

  • This was my very 1st anime I watched coming back from a 2 year hiatus of not watching/reading anything anime/manga/lightnovel related. My favorite series of all time. NOTHING compared to this series at all for me, it holds such a special place in my heart with all the emotions I felt throughout.   • For some reason, some of this songs got predictable in melody to me in many parts, which is incredible for my taste in music. It's like such songs were composed by someone with my same taste in height and melody sequences. Beautiful. All soundtracks are very beautifully emotional.
