Would the Dodo Dead Mat Duo be a suitable substitute for the Dead Mat and Van Liner? All suppliers are out of stock of Van Liner (and Thermo Fleece 🤦🏻♂️)
@@drewmce yes absolutely
Hi mate, if you were to use the dodo dead mat duo for the sides also could that replace both the silent coat deadening sheets snd the thermo liner? Also is there other products you’d advise to use for the sides and roof as thermo liner is out of stock!
@@CombeValleyCampers Hey there, How does the condensation and mold get managed when doing insulation with Thermo Fleece right up against the walls? I have no experience with building but I want to make sure I don't get condensed water to cause mold and rot inside the walls. Please assist :3
Supply website?
A tip: when you cut the insulation for the side panels, don't fit them immediately, but use them as templates for the other side.
Great video, would like to see a video off the floor being sound deadened. Very helpful 👍👍.
I found this one of the most informative videos for product selection and technique. We've gleaned some of this ourselves from forums but you were the first actual tech with experience to confirm our assumptions.
Your videos are literally walking through my van conversion. Thanks guys peace ✌️
Really trust what you guys say, have ordered my insullation and will slowly be working on my van with your videos help. Great so see you working on a van a taking the job slowly so we gt to see the work done and listing products, mistakes and tips is just great. Thanks for taking the time to do this for the comminity.
Wow brilliant there's so much information on insulation and a lot of it conflicting, you've nailed it and given me inspiration by way of knowledge on how to do it right
Great video. My only small criticism is I found the music too loud and the speaking too quiet. I had to keep putting the volume up and down to even it out!
Fin Lay : Agreed. In fact it would be so much better without the music as a good tradesman or do it yourselfer is good to watch with only his speaking or the sound of his work or tools to hear. Also might have been good if he had a mike on him as his voice sounds strange due to distance from the mike.
@@kassiedreaneai7459 Hi guys, thanks for your comments. This is one of our earliest videos, and we like to think we have improved now. Just goes to show we are van builders first, not videographers, but we are improving every video!
That’s one of my complaints about all videos with music. I don’t feel it’s needed.
Agree. But I love this guys tone pace and straightforward demonstration and explanation style. Very good 👍
Thanks so much for these videos, so helpful! ☺️
Thank you for explaining in detail what you are doing and why.
Great series I love how much detail you go into explaining the do's and dont's also showing the best products you use and why you have chosen to use those suppliers . ive subscribed because of the way you explain things in such detail and yeh theres other guys to watch but you make a better job of it and keep it simple with great hints and tips as well . im loving this series mate keep it up … Brilliant Job :)
I been doing a lot of research’s of video like this and this guy broke it down the best 🙌🏾
Great informative video, this has now given us the confidence to go out there and do it ourselves on our recently purchased Day van. Thanks
Used the same materials when insulating my camper van, works great and it's so simple and fast to apply!
Daniel Nilsson, how is it holding up in cold weather ? I live in Montana, where it periodically hits -20 with windchill.
This is SUPER helpful! I’m currently converting a caddy maxi and been scared to go at it, but this has made me feel much more confident about giving it a go! Cheers dude. Subbed & Liked!
On my 2009 I stripped my panels after watching this video, and found it had not a single piece of sound deadner in the whole vehicle, have now done floor ,rear doors and one panel so far and it's already made a massive difference !!!! Thanks guys
Practical informative video, thanks. I have been hearing great things about the properties of real wool insulation ie, mould suppression, R values and off gassing. Any thoughts.
Awesome stuff mate, love the dodo mat insulation, works so well.
Thanks so much for the best explained van insulation video on KZhead. Now all I have to do is see if the products are sold in Australia.
What a great video, I will follow this guide when I finally get around to insulating and sound proofing my T4.
Cool video. Thanks for your help and advice this morning
Best vid online for explaining this! Cheers mate!
I’m pretty hooked on your videos, keep up the fantastic work and your vids are so helpful.
Very helpful advice, thank you for sharing your knowledge :)
Thanks for the under floor insulation/sound reducing product info. and advice @8:00
Thank you very much, Ive just started looking into buying a van to convert , With the way you show how to do things is a massive help it has gave me a confidence boost to go ahead. I will be using your links to get materials. kind regards..
Loving the videos , really helping me convert my transit custom into a day / overnight van , using the products you have used 👍 thank you
Little tip I've been using a tile grout float to push on and flatteren out the silent coat
Those mats are cool. Thanks for the video. I plan on using a roll on sound dampener myself.
Awesome 😎 cheers for the advice 👌🏻
Absolutely amazing job guys 👍🏼 keep it up
I used this thin foil deadening under the deck of my narrowboat. It totally transformed the very loud engine noise from the single cylinder diesel. It's def going in my Vito.
I shall be watching these vids when I get back from work x
Oh blimey.. So many good tips... When I get my next van I shall use this as reference
Superb, thank you for sharing all your knowledge it is such a great help , your a star.
awesome great info with proper products
A great informative video for us DIYers. Thank you.
Thank you for the kind words. I'm glad we could be of help
@@CombeValleyCampers No problem and deadening owe you a drink for the £300 order I've just received :)
Hi! Great video, very useful! I was wondering if you had any experience on using Armaflex vs Dodomat, and if so, what made you use Dodomat over Armaflex? Considering using about the same thickness.. Cheers!
hi, thoroughly enjoyed this video and really informative, iv just purchased a vauxwagen crafter elwb, and a caravan as donor vehicle, the areas that need carpeting im going to use your comments, even though im a joiner by trade you make it look so easy ,im going t order a lot more to allow for mistakes, I have joined your site and look forward to more videos once again well done regards tony
Great video, would love to see the next step carpet lining this particular van, thanks
This is the video I've been looking for! Great job, buddy
Thanks for making it look simple
Great vid. For the floor of the van, wouldn’t it be better to use block based insulation such as celotex or kingspan?
Great vids you have! And superb work!👍👏 cheers from new subs
Top job....thanks for the effort to record this
Great video! In process on doing my first van now. Just a quick question. Would you just put silent coat sound deadener on ceiling or something on top of it before you carpet it? Thanks
Just done the back of my Proace van with 2 x30 boxes of the deadener , doors shut like a roller now , think i will just stuff in the recycled Thermo fleese in now should be better than before also i just carpeted the stock ply panels much nicer inside now so i can use it as a camper as well as work.
Thanks for making it easier to understand & not putting on a fast forward 👍
Thanks great advise just on with my crafter
nice work m8. thx for sharing
hi @ Combe Vally Campers just about to invest in a T5.1 and will be carrying out sound deadening and insulation and carpet lining ! great videos by the way makes doing a conversion less daunting ! just wondering who much of the silent coat do you need to do a SWB T5 ? and do you just need one 10m roll of the thermo van liner ?
Excellent guide! Thank you very much!
How is the water condensation in the panels when camping in cold / humid weather?
Thanks for this video, I'm camperizing my practically new Ford Transit Custom and I will surely order this to insulate my baby.
Thanks Bruno, don't forget to check out our other vids
Found this the most comprehensive video, straight through all the different layers, very helpful, some KZheadrs try break it up as hooks for the next layer, next video, thank you. Can't see what thickness Super liner you used for the floor..
Excellent. I think I've found the materials that I'll be using 👍
Same
Great video, just about to follow it and do my T5.1 Kombi. Quick question, do you remove the OEM blocks of foam that are stuck to walls, tailgate and sliding doors, or go round them?
Thanks so much for this video. I’ve basically done so much research that I’ve totally lost what order and what product I need and what order to use them! I pick up my van this week and so I feel like this channel might just be the reason I won’t freeze at night! What’s the minimum coverage of the dodo sound deadening. Some people say 30% - 50% but it looks like you’re using as much as you can on the outside wall? Thanks again!
Brilliant video, quick question though do you put a plastic barrier on after the fleece and before the cards? I'm doing my T25 up and the old insulation had clear plastic between the insulation layer and door cards.
Excellent Work am VERY IMPRESSED 🇺🇸 ✔️ 🦅
Great video, thanks.
I second what croft says below, plus, the jump of volume between talking and music is a little jarring. But, as croft also says... that goes in the nitpick department... amazing video.
Thank you for your feedback. We are still very new to this and learning g everytine but rest assured we are loving every minute. Next on the shopping list is definately a lapel mic :)
Brilliant video mate, I dont suppose you know the quantitys i would need for a t5 swb do you buddy ?
Great video. I was wondering would it be alright to put the insulation fleece in between the sound deadening and the thermo layer?
Good vid cheers Quick one...How much pressure do you need to apply with the roller on sound deadening mats ,,, a quick rligjt oll over or really pressing down with force to ensure it sticks?
So satisfying~
Thanks for the video, I'm just wondering if I'm replacing door speakers in the front cab should I put sound deadening in the door panels for better sound quality or would I need to use something different? Thanks, Chris.
Great video. Used Silent coat before - good stuff. One thing to add is that if you van is fitted with seatbelt pretensioners don’t fill the cavity that houses the seatbelt assembly with wool/foam insulation. Potential fire risk in a crash. T5’s don’t have pretensioners as you guys know but I thought I’d mention it in case any of your viewers are doing different vans. Keep the vids coming!
Do yall ever install vapor barriers in your builds?
Hi, I want to sound proof and insulate my T6 SWB and wanted to know how much of each product i need, Want to do the floor, sides and roof, great video...
That was great thankyou ☺
Quality! Gilmore ;)
Fantastic. Use this and here's why. I need to find U.S. equivalents and/or check the shipping prices, but there's nothing quite like having a professional giving this kind of advice.
Thank you
Hi mate. Great video. What do you do to the floor please ? Did I miss something
Great video, easy music to. Just trying to find your list and quantity of materials used in this video, have you got a link or list for this? Thanks in advance.
I did my wheel arches and remaining panels today, I discovered heating the mat once I had finished and then going over with the roller smoothed it all out really well and really defined the arches , carpets next !!! Your videos have been great and gave me the confidence to have a go.
Excellent video love the channel mate very helpful and insightful and makes my mind up which way to go for my insulation just got to find the van 1st 😂... Do You need the foil bubble wrap over the top as I see so many use?
Did you manage to find out mate?
@@joshuatimmins2681 no mate didn’t find out think it’s down to Personel preference
Hi thank you for your great content. Can you send me link for two inch fleece, please
Love it. Please equalise the volume of music and voice, I keep having to change the volume 😂
Great video thanks. Do you know rough how much weight this adds to the van. Cheers
About to deaden/insulate aT5 as a day van. From other videos it seems you are better using a roller to guarantee the Silent Coat is fully bonded to the panels instead of just using hand pressure. Certainly any vehicles I have done in the past I have used a roller. Very informative series of videos, thanks, have subscribed.
Thank you for your kind words. We have used rollers in the past and still do for tricky areas but the adhesive is so good on the silent coat it really isn't necessary.
Hi 1st off brilliant video!!! I'm just starting a vw crafter and bought 2 of 1mtr x10m 7mm rolls of insulation to start putting on the panels, I'm a novice so can't tell you what brand. On your video you put a 2nd layer of sound insulation in and then the foam stuff. I'v already got this stuff for the 1st layer so may aswell use it but can you recommend which self adhesive soundproofing to use for the 2nd layer and what foam gear used. Regards Christopher
Great video, but I have a question. What quantitys of each product are you buying to insulate a Ford custom swb. Thanks
Hey! I really like your video's they are so informative! I'm about to start working on my T6 LWB. I'm looking to use the Dodomat materials but since I live in The Netherlands I have to order the whole package at once. Can you maybe advise me on the amount of stuff to order? I want to use the Sound Deadening with the Thermo Van Liner on top and the Thermo Fleece for the cavity's (both the normal and the slim line product). Can you maybe give me some rough idea of the amount of those products? Keep up the good work! Best regards! Marc
I spent most of this winter in a completely uninsulated van. Granted, temps in my area usually don't drop much below 4C, but, with a good sleeping bag, it's managable. Only reason I'd need insulation is for road noise during those times I'm "forced" to sleep on a relatively busy street (rather not wear earplugs).
You might want to consider wearing external ear protection. It limits your sleeping positions a bit, but it's more comfortable and easier to take on and off than earplugs. I find i t's usually better than trying to sleep with sound in the background.
Brilliant videos! So with that compressible floor covering, would you not need to lay wooden batons down?
Awsome thanks.
Very helpful video, I am building out my Caddy Maxi at present. Is a vapor barrier needed with the recycled plastic bottle insulation used here?
Great video! Do you offer this as a service, including carpeting?
Great vid, can I ask why do most other vids on van soundeadening only show people fitting small squares that do not cover the entire visible panel like yours? Your vid was the first I’ve seen that covers all the panel surface?
Sup! Thanks for the video! One question, I noticed the roof had done in strips.. any reason? Cheers!
I like the spartan look without applying carpet.
Hi! Love your videos, please keep em coming! Just one question. Approx how much silent coat is needed to make a proper sound deadening job on my VW T3 similar to the one you are doing in this video?
Hi Huaba, to do walls, floors, doors, ceiling and cab, I would reccomend 3 bulk packs of the 2mm Sound deadening. You can buy the via www.combevalleycampers.com/products. Regards, Leigh
Hi Guys, thanks a lot for sharing the info. I am about to insulate the floor of my T5. I'd like to keep using the origianal floor (it is the soft one, like the one in this video). I was thinking to apply the thermal van liner 7mm directly to the floor and put back the original floor on. My doubts: 1) is this thermal liner compressable since the floor is not rigid? 2) does the original floor will fit back? thankssss
thanks for making it easy thanks you made it make cents
Great video i just purchased a t4 would this still work on it and how much would i need as im new to the world of vw transporters never done any think like this before
Like the MCM chopped fingers in background
First person to notice them and leave comment. Well done man ✌
Could you use Dod mat duo on wheel arches then carpet over?
Great vid. Should a mask be worn when using the recycled plastic fabric?
Can I ask, would you do the floor in sound deadening and the liner or just the thermo liner? Also the roof, you said you would use the liner and didn't mention the sound deadening?
greats videos. really helping me alot for my upcoming build. my only question is for the bits of metal still showing should i be putting thermal on there then lining carpet on top of it?
In the remaining (internal) metal, carpet is fine
Great series of videos, thanks a lot! Quick question for you. I'm going to be raising the floor on my van a few cm. Would you silent coat the whole of the van floor, or just between the wood battens? (which I'll glue down)
I took a slightly different approach but still just as effective, i laid out my wooden battens 25mm thick on the floor and then filled in the square voids with 25mm celotex, really easy to shape, then i went over the top of the wooden battens with foil tape to create a foil vapour barrier all the way around. just remember to mark where your wooden battens are so that you know where they are to screw down your ply floor. The wood its self acts as a decent insulator itself. So in the end i ended up with a solid frame for the flooring and 95% insulation with the celotex. Check out my instagram too see a few photos of it.
