Some dice have a super cool mechanic behind them that makes it stand out from the rest, and others just have a cool shape.

One of them would sneak to the fridge and steal the DM/host's food. Frustrated by this, and unaware which fucking player of his was stealing food, he scattered a bunch of d4s in front of the fridge. In the dark kitchen, the player was unaware of the trap awaiting him, stepped on one, screamed, outed himself, and was promptly kicked out of game and friend group.

    • The d1 is extremely useful in roll20 because a lot of the macros work with either using two constants together or using two dice rolls together, not a constant and a die roll, so if you wanna make a macro for say where if your die rolls lower than a 2 it counts a a 2 you can't do [1d6,2]kh1, kh is keep highest with the number denoting how many of the highest to keep, so instead you'd do [1d6,2d1]kh1, though using a d0 is actually even better because with 2d1 it'll always show up as blue, having rolled both min and max value at once, so instead with a d0 you can do [1d6,1d0+2]kh1, giving the same result, but without the always blue number.

No kobold would buy a mystery bag just to have 10 lbs of dice. No we carefully decide which set will be number 23, line them all up to admire their beauty, and then curse because a single d12 rolled away somewhere and you have to stop everything, count all the dice, make sure nothing else is missing, and go find that precious d12 that rolled away.

    • There's a difference? I thought I was just a picky dice goblin! I guess I'm a dice kobold like you, though. I only have 5 sets to my name, but I'm really picky to what kind of sets I put on my shopping list as well. My dice sets also need to match in terms of colour. I really don't get how people can live with rolling a mismatched set, where they take a D20 out of one set and a D6 out of another. I really couldn't do that without matching up either cool colours like blue and green, or warm colours like red and yellow. Even if I need extra dice because my spellcaster learned a new spell that's going to need them; the set has to look nice, even if she ISN'T burning the party's enemies alive.

  • Fun fact: The design of the d4 was based of a way for players to protects themselves back in the Satanic Panic, where people would raid/attack DND sessions. The solution was to provide players protection, and with what else but a trap, namely caltrops, fitting for DND. The caltrops were contained in the DND products purchased, and were painted and inscribed with numbers, so they could hide amounts the actual dice without raising suspicion, unless you had already fallen victim to them. They were then scattered on the ground before the session to create an obstacle for any attackers, giving the players much needed time to escape/hide. Eventually the caltrops were incorporated into the game as the d4, and while the points are much duller, they still retain spike shape of the caltrops, and that is why the d4 is so painful to step on.

    • If you play a pathfinder rogue you should be using d8 sneak attacks, knife master ftw. Also attack roll conjuration spells, esp acid damage ones like acid arrow, are great to counter magic resistance, magic immunity, and best of all antimagic field, it can't be cast from inside the AMF so you'd have to shoot it from outside but acid arrow has long range and a wizard should never actually be affected by an AMF once they're 5th level as long as they wear their multiple layered shrunk lead cone hat and always have a short range teleport spell prepped.

Also using your dice to decide everything makes it go pretty quickly. Like, we use our d4s for deciding who an enemy is going after. 2 people attacked the same enemy, on a 1 or 3 it'll turn to player 1, 2 or 4 it'll turn to player 2, or whatever you decide based on the situation. That being said, most other characters and campaigns, yeah your mostly gonna use 2-3 of them :P. As a DM however I use them all on a regular basis. D100 mostly for one of my players who is a Druid Halfling alchemist who likes experimenting with tobacco/his pipe. When it is smoked it causes a result from the wildmagic table.
