  • Outstanding presentation. As an engineer and Bonanza owner, I marvel at the robustness and beautiful straightforward design in the Beechcraft. Especially in the 24V airplanes, the gear retracts/extends in 3-4 seconds in beautiful fluid motion without the groaning and contortions that we see in other brands. IMO, an engineering masterpiece.

  • This is a great video, dude! Well done! I'm an aerospace engineer (that and $2 will get me a Pepsi) and huge EAA guy and the owner of an H35 Bonanza who has rebuilt this entire system. I really like Beech's landing gear system design. It's like a Swiss watch in how a simple star gear rotating 180 degrees can actuate all of this. But it's actually very simple and very robust. It just has to be adjusted properly. You did a very good job explaining all of this!

  • Back in my A&P days I had the opportunity to annual a pristine Bonanza each year. I always thought that the gear retraction system was genius! It accomplishes so many actions with the rotation of a single segment gear. Always keep an eye on the wear points of the up lock retraction springs. A little item that can easily get overlooked but if they break the up lock doesn't disengage and bad things happen.

  • Great video! One comment. Anytime gear extension causes an anomaly, the first two things that should be done are, 1. Fly the airplane. This means get away from the ground, and away from the crowd. 2. Read the checklist. All of it before doing anything. Then after you have read it, execute the checklist. Most of the time those two steps will solve the problem. If they do not, the stress level in the airplane will get high. Assess the fuel state and if time permits, use all available resources, a cell phone, or radio to contact a knowledgeable person on the ground away from the noise and stress of the airplane to work all possible options and to plan the best subsequent course of action. Again great description of the system.

  • Phenomenal presentation! The mechanical stuff is great. However, I questioned the statement you made “motor failure is the ONLY situation that warrants manual gear extension.” I think that there are many gear abnormalities where a manual extension is the safest and most reliable course of action.

  • Thank you for producing such a professional and educational video. Question: what could be the failure mode with moving the gear lever to the down position and there is no movement, no sound, and no light indication of any kind (no transition indication). The breaker is not tripped, and there is electrical current to the system with working light bulbs observed on test. This just happened to me recently.

  • I love the camera work. I have wanted to see the action of the up locks, but my block head and neck won’t fit when the gear doors close! The music is slightly distracting. After reading the comments about the music, I listened to the video again while ignoring the narration. The xylophone playing skill is miraculous. I suspect that it was recorded while playing at lower octaves then the speed was increased to maximize the effect of the trills. So, the video content and the background music are quite impressive on their own. I vote thumbs up on everything about this video.

  • Great presentation. Any chance of a review of the single light gear system?

    @domaguayo7819@domaguayo78193 жыл бұрын
    • The only difference on the single light version is that the position switches in the gear bay are missing. Instead the light is activated by the limit switch on the gear box housing so the motor is deactivated and the light is activated by the position of the gear box.

  • Joe, if you have a partial gear extension (one red and say only one or two green) does it not make sense to retract all gear - and if successful in doing so - then do a manual gear extension. This would be the second scenario where manual gear extension was merited?

    @TimMooreDorado@TimMooreDorado3 жыл бұрын
    • Tim, Because all three of the gear are physically linked together the only way for one of the gear to fail to extend is for a failure of one of the actuation rods. If this occurs replacing the motor with the hand crank will only serve to distract the pilot and increase the chances of something bad happening. There is no way to accomplish a successful extension in this case and it dose not merit a manual gear extension. Gear up landing is the best way out of this scenario.

  • Best Baron/Bonanza gear video ever ! Can I add a couple of things: 1. some Barons (maybe others) have an auto-dim on the gear lights whenever the Nav lights are switched on, which in bright daylight makes them seem all out, so check the Nav Light switch if no gear lights in daylight. 2. extension failure due to friction or bent arm that you can't overcome with the emergency handle ? One instance in Australia of pilot pulling a front seat out, floor boards up and working it free by hand - three greens ! Also a new one I never knew: kzhead.info/sun/mtask7lolqGLoWg/bejne.html
