I got cheated there is no link
did the Emperor's wrath get anything different or unique to it? was hopinh for a flame attack over the steam or somthing.

hear news 40k get woke because female custodes lol
I can't wait for the College of Pyrotechnics to spawn with 8 of these and steamroll the world.
The college of "lol doomstack in every town or DIE"
Steamtank the world
oh gods, I hadn’t thought of them
Ye hehehehehe ohooohooo.
I for one welcome our new steambelching overlords.
Ah, Franzer Divisions will be even more deadly!
Not to mention Panzergruppe Gelt
@@Dasspapirfly It has nothing on Panzerarmee Elspeth
So, going for another nice walk through Bretonia?😊
On top of the mechanic reworks, the new look is beautiful. It looks fitting to be the pride of the Empire finally
I love those guys looking from the windows lol
Coming up: Tank Squares with a jade wizard in the middle
and a empire engineer in one of the tanks
The beauty of that: this was a real tactic, without a wizard and with reinforced chariots.
My first thought was related to those rogue armies. The college of pyrotechnics in particular, who field steam tanks and helstorm rocket batteries. Oh man.. that's going to be Hel to deal with.
Ahhh, to die in battle! -said the grudge settler slayer))
unless they're actually changing their balance of power value then you literally wont see a difference other than when you actually manually battle them, and with the flank mechanic it shouldn't be too bad. now of course in multiplayer these things are gonna be a whole new reckoning.
In campaign they won't matter. Just toss trash at them, clean up everything else, and then surround with AP.
_"But they don't have missile block chance from the top, yes-yes."_ [Ikit Claw building nukes in the distance]
Ikit just invents Javelin missles 😂
I'm dreaming of Elector count tank doomstack with Karl Franz bonuses
I'm dreaming of a Master Engineer One man Doomstack with the Sword of Khaine and Nemesis Crown.
They should implement a hard count of 12 again
7:20, that’s a funny aesthetic addition :)
Did the Elector Count Steam Tank got an visual upgrade too ?
Yes!
nuln finally produces high quality tanks
Finally, giving a large entity some proper missile block chance.
It should be able to go on reverse. Backing up while shooting
good idea but it would be the first unit in total war able to move straight back. Units reversing direction always turn in the total war engine.
Beep. Beep. Beep-BOOM-Beep. Beep.
@@Weberkooks Didnt pharaoh have this mechanic?
I agree, just a toggle like the skirmish toggle would work great , and it could work for all units that have a frontal firing arc
Has a unit ever had that ability in any total war game?
"What are you doing!? WE ONLY GOT 8 OF THESE IN EXISTENCE!!" Lorewise he destroyed 25% of the Fanzer division
They actually retconned that so now there’s alot more
Iirc that was old lore, it got retconned where the Empire knows how to replicate and build new tanks.
even going by the idea of it being old lore that there was a limited number pretty sure the total was 16 from what I'd read. still not enough to make a doomstack with, but at least double digits. even with the new lore though they frankly shouldn't be available to any faction other than Reikland (I suppose Gelt, Volkmar, and Wulfhart can kind of be excused since they are all either based in Reikland in the lore or under Karl Franz's direct command). they're the only ones that know how to make them and they don't sell them to anyone, only loan them out at extremely high cost and under strict supervision. the entire reason Land Ships even exist is because Nuln can't make Steam Tanks.
@@Eclipsed_Embers Let's be honest, the High Elves shouldn't be able to field an entire doomstack of Star Dragons as they're rare, rousing a single dragon is no easy feat.
@@fallenhero4550 you call it retcon, I call it technological development.
Zhatan the Black can get 187 armour. 27 more than a literal tank.
Zhatan is just built different😎
Idk if the effect is still in game 3 but bretonnian can get even more armour than that on their peasants, thanks to their armoury building. A medieval peasant, more armoured than a literal tank and the leader of the chaos dwarfs, renowned for their crafts and industry
@@unmeclambda5837 that’s the Lady’s blessing for ya!
You can get Chaos Warriors and Marauders over 200 armour if you capture enough pelts/iron resource settlements.
im confused why its has a 70% block chance shield. does this directional shield mean from the front it gets 100% of 70%, 50% of 70%, and 10% of 70% from each direction?
Yes, that is what it means. So for steam stank it's 70/35/7
Ohhhhhh. That explains everything. I was confused how a 100% block was not blocking 100%
0:10 Love the little guy staring trough the gap at the side of the tank xD Is that new? or was he always there? staring...
😂 I didn't even notice
🎶 I always feel like 🎶 Some Skaven’s watching me 🎶
The directional missile block chance reminds me of the days in COH 2 trying to run anti tank guns around the side of tanks
Imo tanks should be even a bit stronger but a life magic would not work on them. Engineer should have option to repair them but it should be limited.
yeah, make them into unbreakable constructs
@@Dejawolfs not much point in making them constructs if they're also unbreakable since unless you have a unit that repairs constructs (and to my knowledge the Empire Engineers can't) all it does is change the unit from routing when it breaks to crumbling when it breaks. that's probably why CA removed Unbreakable from the Terracotta Sentinels when making them into Constructs (similar reasoning for when Unbreakable was removed from Incarnate Elementals of Beasts when they were changed to be Elementals). also, making them constructs wouldn't stop the Lore of Life from working on them. whilst the Invocation of Nehek, the Lore of Vampires Lore Attribute, and the Lore of Nehekhara Lore Attribute are limited to only target Undead units the healing spells in other lores aren't as fussy. the Lore of Life (and other lores that have access to healing) is completely capable of healing Undead, Constructs, Daemons, and Elementals
@@Dejawolfs Steam tanks are unbreakable
I mean, from an internal logic perspective, the Lore of Metal should be able to repair them. Would be cool if they made it so Glittering Robe also repaired steam tanks/sentinels, since both of those factions have access to that lore, and that would remove the need for having a new spell or ability. Engineers should definitely get an ability to repair it, though, I agree.
Thanks for the shout out, @TheGreatBookofGrudges. Always happy to help with testing the new toys!
You could doomstack with steam tanks as Gelt in WHII but yeah, they are way better now.
The 40k thing was exactly my taught
they'll definitely make a ww1 total war before wh40k
Yep, makes sense. Although if (as rumoured) 40k is on a new engine I'm not sure there is as much a basis in testing the code as maybe seeing how the players interact with the gameplay? But it is difficult not to draw that particular connection
Thanks for all the video !! i happy you got to finally enjoy some new stuff
Yeah, it does seem like a suspicious anount of effort to put in this directional damage system for just a handful of units, definitely feel like it adds weight to the rumours:D
Units already had front, flanks and rear. So it's not a new system, just a new application of that system.
They've also updated the way repeater handguns fire. It still needs tweaking, they aren't very good at the moment, but it does look very promising.
The change I want for war machines now is the ability to see the multiple different weapons.
Reminds me a bit of Company of Heroes with the various weak points on the tank. Could be a wonderful fit for a WW1 TW... ;P
Something to note here is that some weapons like, say, Evan Archers, have projectiles so slow that if you fire them, the tank could turn to face you before the arrows *hit*.
Time for the panzer core to come out and play
I thought it was Franzer Core
Some have mentioned how this new armour lay out for the Steam Tank may be testing for something in the future. Edit: Aparrabtly that includes Nathan 😅
Steam Tanks just got a whole lot cooler. Nearly impenetrable from the front, firing on the move, all guns firing. 20 tank doomstacks will be fun, especially when combined with the new Steam Tank variant. Playing Sabaton while seeing them charge into battle will be so enjoyable to watch.
*steel commanders intensifies*
if 100% missile block chance doesn't prevent the damage then what exactly is missile block chance?
It's not 100% dude. Also resistances are always capped at 90% in this game so even if it reads 100% it's capped at 90.
@@Weberkooks I guess the 100% gives some extra defence against any ability that can lower block chance.
Mabey some of the shots are clipping the sides
@@Weberkooks that's not true. With the Gate Master, you can give him an item and a skill that gives 119% missile block and ALL missile damage from the front is blocked. It's most noticeable on the horse mount
Finally they added the "Drive me closer I want to hit them with my sword" dude on top.
The new look gives me strong 'Commissar in Leman Russ' vibes.
Id have liked to have seen more comparisons at the end, as in; How many handgunners shooting from the front are equal to one shooting from behind? Would it be 3 front volleys=1 back volley? 5 front volleys? Would've been nice to see
That change sounds and looks great:)
Rushing Nuln confederation when playing as Karl is going to be really strong. Getting an extra legendary lord and a special steam tank that gets the damage bonus from Karl Franz his lord effect is going to be amazing.
Before 5.0 i always rush Marienburg and Nuln first, (Raiding Nuln each turn to force them secede) to get the 2 best Elector Count units. I guess this wouldn't be the case because you do want Confed Elsphelt.
I dunno, the Steam Tank was good because it can dish out a shit ton of attacks with its steam points; D3 impact hits per point with melee alone. Whilst 2+ armour save is nice, WFB armour piercing went by layer and anything with S5 is sufficient to reduce its save to a far more manageable 4+. Most races don't have trouble getting S6 attacks as part of their standard build either.
Very cool, the tank is just fine. Doesn't matter if it takes damage from the back, all other single entity large units take damage from every angle, the fact that it can block from the front or the side is just an added bonus, every other monster unit looking enviously that the tank only really taking range fire from behind lol
Hey who is that looking out the side vision slat at 7:19? Interesting animation detail!
Steam tanks already used for Doom stacks - esp with lore of Life which heals them for no reason.
One of my all time favourite units! So happy to see these changes
Would be cool if it had reverse gear. So you can fire while moving away from enemy, like it was in naval battles with armored ships in Shogun 2)
I think these distinct qualities are effing awesome.
Guaranteed they are getting these systems going in prep for the 40k game!
One step closer to Saltzpyre getting a steam tank mount!
holy crap, 100% missile block chance from the front :O
Damn I have to say nuanced changes like this seem to me that some of the love for the game is actually returning. Some suit had to allow the manhours on this and I rezpect that a lot
This is awesome! The missle block is going to have a big impact on the current ranged meta, it'll force factions to either flank, tie up, or position troops differently in order to take them down. I looove this kind of tactical change for the game, especially for factional powerhouse units like the Steam Tank.
Going to agree with book of grudges here, halfway through the video I started thinking “hmm, what could they POSSIBLY be working on that would require them to be developing facings on armored vehicles”. Given CAs current situation, I don’t think they would have put so much effort into tank mechanics if they didn’t intend to use tanks in the future. Tw40k or twww1 may be imminent.
If the frontal block chance is 100%, why did the tank still take some damage?
The front facing arc that has 100% block seems to be rather narrow, some missiles from the same volley are going through from units firing in a wide formation. In practice it seems to have effectively 50% block unless you are charging directly into a shooter unit in a pencil formation.
so what you're saying is, clan eshin with armor piercing gutter/night runners are going to eat these tanks for breakfast. Hell, deck droppers might actually be pretty good at attacking them in the rear
If CA makes 40k they can just port over the daemon units without any additional work on the models.
True, that could be an incentive for them to make it as well, some of the work (though a small portion) is already done
This is a ton of future tech. To me it lends credibility to them going to the early tank wars for historical.
I wish there was a reverse drive mechanic like in Company of heroes
I'm a touch confused. It says 100% of small arms fire. Is that only for non Armor piercing damage? How does the calculation work, because from reading that tooltip, it would suggest it blocks ALL damage from frontal small arms?
a block does not mean it removes ALL damage from the shot, it just heavily reduces it. Hence why some damage is coming through regardless while it has 100% block. Hope that answered your question :)
@@Zarphon "Shielded is a tooltip bulletpoint for units. It indicates that they possess an innate missile block chance, meaning that a certain percentage of small missiles (such as most arrows, bullets, magical bolts from Pink or Blue Horrors of Tzeentch, javelins or blowdarts; but not cannonballs, Cygor rocks, Shem's Burning Gaze or arrows from Alith Anar) that hit the unit from the front are blocked completely, dealing no damage. Thus, it must not be confused with Missile Resistance, which applies from all angles and is a simple percentage reduction in damage of any missile attack that hits."
I would assume the 100/50/10 is the percentage of their base missile block chance. So 70% for the steam tank. So the tank would actually have 70/35/7.
Small firearms = non-artilery. It's not 100% missile block chance. That ability means 100% of the unit's missile block chance will apply when shot from the front. Even if you manage to stack 100% missile block chance, the game caps all resistance at 90%
@@warhammer3012 This makes more sense.
"Keep in mind that my predicitions have been accurate lately" I just love these implications ^^
GreatBookofGrudges Make a Video Shorter than 9 Minutes Challenge: Impossible
Really nice changes
damn, thats crazy.
Finally gonna be worth the upkeep cost! Looks really good too!
I do hope they are working on WW1/WW2/Cold War games before they tackle 40K, the gravity of practice needed to do it justice is comparable to a Black Hole.
Now if only they could run over Lords and Heroes like they could in Dark Omen they would be perfect!
If only High Elve Prince Guderian could have seen this!😅😊
Trying to out maneuver those tanks are gonna be a little more rough. 😅
Finally, the true tank mechanic comes home
interesting coincidence, a few days ago I bought a steam tank for my tabletop army
Are hellblaster volley guns still tier 5 or did they put lowered their tier?
Now i want a steam tank door stop
So, were going for another nice walk through Fran...Bretonia?
I dread to imagine Amethyst Steam Tanks....
100% missile block is is gold shield which is 88% i believe ?
I like the idea of more things like the steam tank having higher missile block chance in general, like it never made sense to me how stone constructs take so much damage from arrows.
So does the hellcannon resemble it's tabletop version now? A terror in melee and range.
Can anyone explain how missile block chance works? I would've assumed that 100% chance would've meant no ranged damage at all gets through. And even 50% when you have 160 armor seems like it shouldn't be doing almost any damage?
Range does 1dmg to the steam tank, it might say 100% block chance but the real cap is 90%
It's exactly what it says it is a chance to completely block missile damage. 100% would theoretically block all of it, but there is no unit that has that. Gold Shield is 70% and even if you stack more somehow the cap is going to be 90% just like with all other resistances.
HELL YEA!
No mention of how the tank is completely reskinned and looks so much better than it used to? Awesome
And isn't the armored vehicle more of a ranged ward save?
Finally a tank… working somewhat like a tank!
Is the steam cannon using ammunition intended? I hope it is a bug.
Almost like Company of Heroes tanks 👌🏻
Directional Armor? Wow 4OK is actually happening.
Can you go over what Amethyst units are for the empire?
Think pretty much every new dlc empire unit has a amethyst version, along with old firearm units, old empire artillery, steam tanks, and halberdiers.
@@baconsoup8346 Not exactly what I am asking. I was wondering are there that much different from the base units? I know that they are magic enhanced but how strong does that enhancement make them? If they have a table top version and a rule book that defines their stats can you give me something like a comparison between them and let's say a high tier unit from on of the Elf, Dark Elves, or Chaos Dwarf factions? I want to know how they stack up to them so I can get an idea of what they might be like in the game.
Do you think they should give this trait to the Chorfs tanks?
There are going to be some great doomstack videos with all the big dumb toys being handed out in the DLC!
One of the best changes in 5.0. Fucking FINALLY! Also, called it. WH40K is absolutely happening and should happen, been saying this for yeeeeeeeeeears!
When dies the update come out?
I hope slaanesh and korn gets ttheir dlc too
100% missile block? This is could be a terror against missile-heavy AI.
Not 100% missile block chance. 100% of its missile block chance will count when shot from the front.
@@vojtik135 Alright, thanks for the correction.
That commander is afraid to close the hatch because its gonna take an ogre to get it back open. Or its made of aluminum.
While the extra damage taken from sides and the rear is concerning, you gotta consider that rarely the enemy will be able to get in such position where they'd be able to exploit such weakness in a consistent manner. Especially among the chaos of battle! Safe to say, most players would bring more artillery to the table regardless, so most Steam Tanks are just going to chill and shoot cannon balls while safe from distance. Well, maybe some enemy cannons can be an issue.
Especially since units in modern Total War games die like copy paper, so by the time you manage to get around the tanks to hit them from the side, half your army will already be melted.
It's not extra damage, it's less damage. Currenty you get 0% missile block chance on flanks and rear.
100% missile block from the front is insane. It automatically wins every artillery duel
Artillery isn't affected by missle block chance, it's only small projectiles
It's 100% of the base 70%, and unless it has thrvdame thing as ironbreakers it doesn't stop arty.
WHERE’S MY GOD DAMN SOUP TANK?!!!!
I'm sorry but why is the Steam Tank circle avatar thing SO small? Bottom left thing.
I don't understand why they're still Unbreakable though, the machine can't get scared sure but the crew inside can. Being in a tank in battle must be like one of the scariest thing on earth... I also love that they put "100%" when it's not like why?? Just put the accurate damn value why being so inaccurate in a game loved by one of if not the most detail loving community. Some guys could litterally tell you how many men are needed to build the thing yet these guys can't give you an accurate number if there's no £ after it.
Hopefully
When does this release!
Man Great Book putting out more videos than a college girl who just lost her parents.
Fucking hell man lmaoooo
I mean, it's a bloody tank, you should need a cannon to hurt it from the front, or something similar.
Ok, so now when i see that one rouge army i should straight up delete my savefile
