I will say that David needs to continue fighting slick fighters because Morrell wants that fight. I understand Ronnie Shields said it's too soon, but Benavidez definitely views him as the biggest threat. He put the axe on that fight the second his dad and Sampson announced it.

I know you always have to take what any athlete says with a shot of penicillin, but something about Benavidez just screams that this dude just loves the sport of boxing. He talks his stuff just like everyone else, but I feel like he gets genuinely excited by the idea of two amazing fighters meeting up; whether he’s in the fight or not. Like I got the sense that he’s *genuinely* excited by the Beterbiev v Bivol fight and I just think that’s cool- showed both a lot of respect too!

What's insane is David's top career fight in 11 years at 168 is getting taken the distance by someone Canelo stopped. Canelo and Benavidez were actually both champs at age 20 but that's where the comparison stops because Canelo went on to become the youngest unified champ in the history of 154 by 22 and continued lining up champs moving up including unifying all 4 belts at 168 after David dropped his belts ducking out on the division and refusing to unify, and Canelo challenged 2 champs at 175 in the division David refused to challenge for a title period despite being overgrown.

Canelo never said he's too big, all he said was size is all he's bringing (besides his padded 0) because he's got no belt from ducking smoke and can't even draw on his own. Canelo is the one who started at 140 yet unified 154, 160, and 168 and claimed a title at 175. David is the one who dropped his belt ducking smoke at 168 despite being the biggest dude in the division and ducked a 175 title shot even after blowing weight by 3 pounds. And it's comical to complain about Canelo fighting a fellow undisputed champ from his ex division Mell who's taller than Canelo, when Benavidez was the overgrown super middleweight who just fought Andrade moving up who had never faced or beaten a champ even in the lower divisions. Benavidez is finally moving up to 175 but that's to face Gvozdyk coming off of being sent into retirement, which is a rando fight to take especially with Benavidez saying he wants no part of fighting the Bivol-Beterbiev. Benavidez has said he'd refuse to even face a Morrell when that would be one of the only guys with upside and size he ever fought.
