  • I was going between the A7RV and the A7IV when trying to pick my B cam to go alongside my FX3. Ended up choosing the A7IV and haven’t regretted it once. For the work I do it’s perfect, and now that I’ve added a Fuji X100VI as a third/BTS cam, I’m really cooking.

  • I can completely understand the choice to go to the A7R V. I had more problem understanding the move from the FX-3 to the ZV-E1. That felt more like a huge step back instead of forward.

  • I’m in the middle of making the same move. I bought and returned the A9iii hoping it would replace my a7iv. I thought I wanted something with better video but after a lil souls searching I realized although I am a hybrid shooter, I’m leaning more towards photos and want to give my clients the option of large prints and 61MP is huge for me. The 16-35pz is my fave lens to use and now I can punch in and turn 35 to 52.5 and still have 26MP

  • I made the exact same move just about a year ago. Started my retirement hobby in late 2021 with the A7iv being the first FF mirrorless camera I ever owned. It was awesome. But then came the A7RV, and well, for many of the very same reasons, I traded in the 7iv for the 7RV. No regrets whatsoever! The one upgrade feature that has made the most difference for me is the ability to "crop all the way to Pluto", as you so eloquently described it (I am going to use that phrase forever going forward). Second is the AF - so good. And then all the other stuff you mentioned. This camera is going to last me for a LONG time. Welcome aboard the 7RV train!

  • Great video Terry. I was at WPPI and when the Sony rep told me about the variable size RAW files, I was sold on the camera. I shoot stills mostly landscapes with my RIVa for which 60MP is a must. I am going to stat shooting weddings again (ouch!) and was fretting over the 60MP files. You don't need that much resolution for a wedding. So a 15MP or 20 something MP file is great. The other feature of the RV is the advanced focusing system which would be a life saver.

But there’s nothing wrong at all with the older bodies I shoot a lot of different things and I needed a second body I just picked up an a7iii as a little workhorse camera to shoot everything I don’t want to hammer my RV with and as a second camera just to take wide angles at weddings or to shoot boxing events on that really don’t need an RV to shoot and even that is surprisingly still very capable. I was looking at the a7iv but honestly you hit the nail on the head with screen I spend most of my time with my screen in tilt so having a flip out only would really throw me out

Later, that changed to ZV model for them as replacement RX100 model which is larger sensor size on naked eye. I don't know yet and rather Sony going make a whatever came out on public by keep eyes on it in future. I rather keep it for little bit longer but never know if they will comes out. @hmarmol23@hmarmol23Ай бұрын
    • Don’t sell, trade. Adorama and B&H won’t give you what you think. They’ll give you up to 70% of what they’ll sell it for, so if it’s in great condition you’ll get, at most, half of what you paid for it. If you use old gear as trade, you may get a better deal(credit towards a new purchase).

  • I went to the A7RV almost a year ago from the A7Riii. I was looking at the A7iv at the time. I found all these features/capabilities in the A7RV that (for me) justified paying a bit more. TBH, I rarely shoot at 61MP, but yes it's great to have. IMO, the video is a bit weak (vs A7iv) because it's pixel binned 4K. That being said, I got the A7Cii a few months ago for travel/video/backup. Lastly, if the rumors at right, I think the A7V will be the hybrid to get.

  • No question the the Sony A7RV is a great Camera, I never do video, so for me video functions is just very annoying in the menu, I wish Sony could make the software so I could hide and shut off ALL video function ! Now I use Sony A7RIV and Sony A7RIVA ( almost identical !), so there are only two thing in the Sony A7RV that will be better for me, the EVF and the IBIS, I di not like the fully articulating backside monitor screen, I prefer a non-moving or a tilt up and down screen. I need two identical Cameras, so it will be expensive to upgrade, maybe I will get the Sony A7RV or I will wait for a new future Sony A7RVI or a complete other type of Camera, I want a photography (NO video functions) only Camera with the EVF (9.5+ mega dots) and 1.2x magnification sitting in the corner (like the A7C series and a 6xxxx series), an IBIS with 8+ steps, a sensor with 93 megapixel (Sony have it, it is the same tech as the 40 megapixels Fuji X-H2 and X-T5!). If we count there are still a LOT more photographers that never do video than those who do both ! I think there are too many youtube reviewers that focus too much on video functions.´So lets have cameras (and reviews) for video and lets have Cameras for only photography !

  • The A7RV Is hands down one of the best camera Sony has put out! It's an absolute beast! probably the best HYBRID hands down.

  • Yo! I can understand the a7R5 being better in everything, but are you not comparing the a7IV with the wrong class upgrade? I’ve tested the a7R5 twice for a weekend and came to the conclusion that I could not get used easily to the fact that it kept going to sleep mode to save batteries, and also: electronic shutter (10 fps) mode has no shutter sound - coming from the a9, this is very unlucky, you cannot control your bursts at all at silent mode. It might be the latest and greatest with the AI chip, but just selling it by reading the specs does not make it a very good feature, when testing it, you might wonder how you can / want to manipulate the learning process of the recognition - it turns out there is nothing you can do other than switch on /off. I expect in a few years a more mature ability, this one is still an AI baby as far as i’m concerned.

  • I would buy the A7IV for the tilt/flip screen. Don't understand why Sony doesn't install that on every camera.

  • If this is out of your price range, start saving up for the A7V, should come out next year. Start saving like $150-200 a month and you should have enough for it once it come out.

  • You didn’t talk about ISO capabilities, Sony A7lV is better, dual iso at 800-3200 and the A7RV is only 800-2500 in Slog 3.

  • Got to remember this man is not a photographer just AN enthusiast none of these inventory problems affect 90% of users. These KZheadrs are the same ones that beg Sony for rotating screens over tilting screens. NOW it’s an issue 😩 i have 2 a7iv not one issue 4k 60 crop 😒 not an issue don’t get me wrong. Terry is a cool dude, but these are just justifications on why he purchased the R5 I tested the R5 to be honest it didn’t win me over so I purchased two RVs instead this video did not convince me😅
