This type of progressive, "getting to know you" review is super helpful. First sight of this saw, and the festool introductory videos had me convinced I had to have it. But watching a trusted youtuber as yourself put it through its paces brings me back to reality. Do I *really* need this saw? It's certainly amazing, but just how amazing is it? Let's just see.

Great video and explanations of why you do things, including the use of CA glue before cutting the thread... will definitely bear that one in mind.

Great video! I just bought this table saw, love the fact you can swap the fences! I’m going to love having a mini sliding saw in addition to my full-size sliding saw. One thing you should consider making for it is a small Fritz and franz jig for holding those small parts you were using backer boards for and also jointing a straight edge on parts small enough to fit on the slide!

Thanks! I think it’s going to stay a pretty divisive tool with a lot of folks just unable to get beyond the price / what else you could get for the money, but if it does what you need then there’s not much else to compare it to. 👍 But it still needs a mains power option to gain greater adoption.
I think Festool might be coming out with an 18v battery to mains adapter, similar to what they did for their cordless sanders. I saw a photo in one of the Festool groups. Thanks for the great videos!
Metabo hpt makes something like that too. Sucks more tool companies don't do it for tools that chew through batteries fast.

Nice add on mate. Odd that you have to though. Festool usually good on that front. Yes, proxxon for model makers (inc dolls houses). My uncle, ex boat builder like me now makes model boats and has gone from Wadkins to proxxon😂 Their table saws tiny, thin, high tooth count blade is ideal for intricate parts. Think your airstream is showing less fatigue as it uses higher capacity cells than the old ones. The amount "wasted" via bt will be negligible on a high consumption tool like that. I really like this saw though.
Cheers Stew! Yes, it’s odd; the original Festool MFT fence is apparently the same profile as the mitre gauge, but the Festool flag stops don’t *quite* fit. There’s a guy on Instagram 3D printed his own version of the body for it. Happier chopping up bits of plywood personally, and this was just fun to do! Yeah, saw’s working out really nicely; funny how some folks just can’t get beyond the price though! 🤷♂️👍
It looks like a very nice bit of kit actually, the worrying thing is I said exactly the same after watching your early domino videos shortly before I bought one.

Peter, excellent presentation as always. However I have to confess that I'm totally puzzled by why Festool, which I hold in very high regard as an upscale tool manufacturer, would come out with this saw. I don't get it....
Hi Peter, i woodwork out of a 2 bedroom condominium. I’ve never really considered getting a table saw for obvious reasons. My Makita track saw is superb. I am considering it now seeing this Festool and actually being surprised by it’s US Price which just dropped. My question is how loud is it compared to other job-site table saws that’s you’ve come across in the past. Thank you for your time.
Hi Ben. My experience with site saws is pretty much limited to the Dewalt and Bosch corded saws, and in comparison to those the Festool is much quieter. Quieter than the CT Midi vac I have it attached to, and comfortable enough to use without ear defenders - though I never would. Try and get hands-on with it if you can, but I’m really happy with mine. Only things I’d like to see on it is a power cord and a fine adjuster on the fence. Great saw. 👍👍
Thank you for these videos. I am seriously considering buying this saw when they make it available in North America. The saw's compactness and battery power would be a nice fit for my small "shop" area. One of my main concerns is how it might handle cutting hardwoods that are near or at its cutting capacity. Is that something you have been able to test?

Peter, I took the comment about being suitable for dolls houses as an element of sarcasm 😂 based on how small it looks compared to other table saw. I.e would it fit inside a dolls house 😂
Good stuff as always Peter. I had a Bosch tool with Bluetooth and that had basically a big watch battery driving it I think so I wouldn’t think it would do too much damage. Have you used the Festool App with it though?

@@10MinuteWorkshop I can't seem to find which BT module Festool uses but a 23ft range means it is probably using less than 5 microamps while it is transmitting and less than one when sleeping. I don't think you will notice an added drain on an 8Ah battery.

Hi Peter. Great vid as always. Just a quick question; that bit of extrusion that you moved from the fence to the mitre gauge: is it the same profile as the extrusion on the fence of the MFT3? It looks very similar. Just thinking that would provide further extension to the mitre gauge, and there’s already a flip stop… Also, does the Bench Dogs extrusion fit to the mitre guage? From recollection I think you have one of their fences…
It’s very similar to the old MFT/1080 fence extrusion, but not the same apparently. And no, the benchdogs/Ooznest extrusion doesn’t fit - you’d need to change the t-nuts to make it work, and the spacing are wrong so the extrusion doesn’t sit flush with the table. 👍
Thanks for this video. How would you rate the dust collection? Do you think that an over the blade dust port could help catch more or does the actual dust port is enough?
Thanks! Dust collection is very good - better than any above-blade extraction I’ve used, and the best below-table shrouding I’ve seen on a table saw. Would above table extraction *in addition* improve things? Sure, probably, but incrementally. 👍

When cutting the blue MDF yes, I’d left it off. Blue dust everywhere! 🤦♂️🤷♂️
Hi Peter. The flag on the flag stop is on the end of the stop nearest the blade....if it were at the other end the crosscut capacity would be a bit greater. Was that deliberate so that to the flag bears against the stop body so that it can't flex or pop off...or could it in fact have been on the other end quite happily?
Hi. The flag is on with a simple friction fit, so I wanted to be able to butt it against the body of the stop; if you were fixing it on with a screw of some kind then it wouldn't be an issue the other way round. 👍

It seems rather intuitive to me that a Bluetooth battery would drain faster than its regular counterpart because surely the BT module inside is introducing a constant drain that the other doesn't have? The same way you can make your mobile phone last longer by turning off the BT and wifi functions if you don't need them... Pure guesswork on my part, of course 😁
is it possible to have a zero tolerance saw blade
I know someone who is doing a zero clearance insert for the table, and I’ve thought about it, but I’d be careful about the effect it would have on dust extraction as it relies on downdraft through the slot around the blade. 🤷♂️👍
Maybe it only draws on one battery for the electronic control and only uses both for the motor, hence the difference in battery life? Try swapping them over next time you charge and see what happens.
No, it’s a 36v saw - won’t run off a single battery. 👍
Interesting. My tsc55 will run on 18 or 36 volts but when both 18 volt batteries (identical amps an age and charge) are fitted , one drains quicker than the other.
@@DavidStanton I cannot confirm this. The batteries of my TSC55 discharge evenly. I have not measured it, but in normal use there is no difference.
@DavidStanton I'm with Marcus. I've not noticed any difference. In fact the other day I drained them whilst sawing and thought I'd get a couple of cuts at 18V quickly before charging. Neither battery would run the saw so...
How would one cut narrow pieces using that clear safety cover??
First shot of the saw being used is me ripping a ~10mm wide strip. 🤷♂️👍

A Bluetooth thermometer lasts half a year or a year on a single tiny cr2032 battery. Continously transmitting temperature and humidity. If Festool haven't done something stupid, the battery drain shouldn't be noticeable. Of course if they have done something stupid, well 😮😅
Hi Peter. If you can align something by eye to a stop and it is good enough, as it appears over the years for you it was, why would you need the "digital goodness"? Another gimmick to go wrong.
A point I believe I made in this video. But if you’re designing and engineering the digital goodness into something like the blade height and angle, it seems to be an omission not to have it on the fence, where it would arguably be of more use, don’t you think? 🤷♂️👍

@@10MinuteWorkshop I have about $3k of Festool tools. I'm no troll. And I did watch your other video. If that table saw comes to the US I'd guess the contractor demand for it will be limited because of the cost, capacity and its battery only. As a finish carpenter we use a 10" saw for ripping sheets of plywood, scribing base and other bigger stuff. We do make jigs for routers, etc. but most our stuff is kind of bigger. Maybe when there are jobsite videos showing its capabilities that might help generate interest. As of right now the 10" Saw Stop is the preferred jobsite saw because of its capacity and safety. A saw that would be interesting would be a 12" Kapex.
@@thekinarbo I suspect the difference is in finish carpentry itself placing different demands on the tools. In the US houses I've been to, there's a lot of fancy woodwork around door frames, windows, skirting, architrave etc. In Europe, we tend prefer clean lines and minimalism, hence Peter making his money (Warning; insultingly over simplified) making cabinets to fit odd spaces in out-of-square 100 year old houses. Thus this kind of saw is probably more appealing to European buyers, especially when you consider most of us live in shoeboxes compared to the US...a 10in contractors saw would neither be welcome or much use in a London 'flat'.
Also a general contractor in North America used to carrying heavy tablesaws and SC mitre saws from job to job- Recently attempting transition to tracksaw workflow with portable diy MFT thanks in large part to Peter and his ilk. Found I was still missing the two bulky tools I was used to having onsite for various reasons. Now have a smaller tablesaw and mini crosscut mft to compliment overall tracksaw setup. Longwinded way of saying many ways to get the job done and a smaller tablesaw could compliment a tracksaw based system.

Does seem strange to have little stepper/servo’s doing all of the blade adjustment, but then not so much as a D.R.O. For the fence.!! ( maybe something you could look into ) also less than £1000.00 and these things would be flying out of the door, at this price can’t really put it on the fathers day/ Christmas list.🥲
Yes, it’s an odd omission. Still a nice saw though, if it fits your needs. And by the sounds of it they’re flying off the shelves at this price, regardless. 🤷♂️👍
