This draft really could go a few different ways. He could go at 1 and could go as low as 4 or 5.

Most of Slovak people hope he gets drafted 2nd by Devils and not by Montreal (which I don't think would happen anyway) because Devils have great young players and especially centers that could help him to grow. Another Slovak Tomas Tatar is on the team so that could maybe help him with the living situation and adjusting to NA lifestyle. I think he's gonna be great. Sure, a guy like Wright has been solid in the CHL and has never looked below average at juniors, but people fail to give the real credit Slafkovsky should get for being good in juniors, playing more than well against men in the top league in Finland and being the biggest standout in a mens national championship in which he captured bronze and scored with easy. Can’t do much more to prove you are unlikely to bust as a prospect who isn’t viewed as a generational talent before your draft year. Ultimately, time will tell.

Luc Bourdon (Despite his tragic end, he still wouldn't have been anywhere near the star status of Anze!) Kopitar has scored almost 2x as many points as anyone else in that year's draft, and sits 2nd only behind Crosby from his class. I’m hoping somehow we move up enough to grab a high end draft pick that can develop for a couple of years until the Suter / Parise contracts drop off the books. Not sure what will happen, maybe Ottawa at 7. Our pipeline is deep so we have assets that could be enticing in a multiplayer type of trade. • You need a big winger with touch to play with either Hughes or Hischier (opposite Bratt?), and he'd be a good fit with Sharangovich, who is also a very big, very skilled guy. I know we have other holes to fill and the temptation to trade the pick for a bag of hole-fillers is great, but among this team's biggest deficiencies are goal scoring and power play. If you can get the power forward with a scoring touch, and this young, you grab 'em, I think. Then again, Tom Fitzgerald certainly knows more than I do.

  • well slafkovsky already showed he can hang with nhl players (he was driving a lot of plays against canada) 7 goals in 7 games at olympics and 9 points in 8 games at world championship showed he can play big role on big stage. He has movement, stickhandling and can lead the puck to the offensive zone like top offensive players in the league. With bit of a stretch you could say that he is faster rantanen with ability to play body better. he needs to improve in play without puck but everything he doesn't have can be learnt. I really think this is our next big superstar when talking about simon nemec he is another great slovak prospect. he is fast, great playmaker, kid doesn't even know what color is puck. He has some problems in the D zone sometimes but he has a potential to be elite offensive defensman in the league his hockey iq is top tier and everything he doesn't know can be learnt same as with slafkovsky. The main difference between those two buys: Slafkovsky played in finland great defensive league and learnt more difficult playing system nemec played in slovakia our league is more offensive and fun but kind of whack defensive systems are kind of pathetic lol your team wins or loses 7:3 there is nothing between. and a lot of our coaches play the same style 30 years (the one of the only teams with modern minded coach actually won the league ok it's also richest club but that's not the point lol). so he needs to learn a lot in the teams that actually plays modern system

  • I have a feeling he's being hyped for headlines by reporters, including an article put out in today's Athletic that places him #1 as a "coinflip" between Wright. Slavkovsky's stats in Finland suggest him to be a lower pick than Cooley. Tourney play? How many guys really check all that hard a big guy like him during the COVID games or what's considered off season by NHL players in the World Championships. The convo should be where he goes in 2-10 and I know that many of these other players have done more in longer sample size and some will require less work to play in the NHL even if the ceiling might not be as high.

    • Slafkovsky shouldnt be a lower pick based on points, you have to look at the fact that Slafkovsky is playing with men and Wright is playing with kids, thats like a 2-3 levels difference in quality, its uncompareable not to mention TPS Turku didnt gave Slafkovsky many chances because they kept him in 4th line most of the time sometimes sending him to the minors without giving him a chance, the first real chance Slafkovsky got in TPS was after olympics and since he was moved to 2nd line he was an absolute beast, like if you watched the matches, you knew right away which one is Slafkovsky because the skill difference of him above everyone else on the ice was too noticeable. Not to mention that if we talked about points in minors league then Slafkovsky should be above Wright cause Slafkovsky was in minors producing as many points as Wright and even more.

    • @@gabetalks9275 Your statement of "Hischier is our muscle." proves my statement of "NJ is soft as hell." Furthermore, Hughes had a Faceoff Winning Percentage of 34.6 last year... and he's gotten WORSE in every season. He can't stay healthy, gives the puck to the other team 2/3 of the time, and his best plays are almost always coming up the boards (usually on the left). He's an NHL winger, and there is nothing wrong with that once the team admits it and does the right thing in moving him there. Saying "he was on pace for" is irrelevant when the single most important ability for a player is availability. It's painful to watch the Devils down by a goal late in the 3rd, and have the other team ice the puck non-stop because they know the Devils can't win a key faceoff. I watched Hughes lose SIX STRAIGHT to the Penguins in 90 seconds of game time - never even got a shot on goal with the goalie pulled and SIX offensive zone faceoffs. He could be an exceptional-to-elite Winger. But this Center nonsense has to stop.
