  • I was 7 when I watched this and the previous 2-2 match. I wanted Chelsea to win because I loved their blue kit with the stripe and number on the shorts. Afterward, my parents gave me a kid's version of the full kit as a present. I treasured that kit and became a lifelong fan.

  • I was there that night. A 17year old apprentice with a mate and a guy we met up with from London. We had Leeds tickets that, despite our best efforts , could not swap. I'm 65 years old now and find it hard to believe that the greatest sporting night of my life was that long ago. The last 15 years have been wonderful for Chelsea, but for me NOTHING could ever compare with that night. You had to be there!!!

    • Just been reliving the greatest night off football I was 18 year old shed boy in the Stratford end and agree you had to be there tomsample the atmosphere What didn't come across in clip is the continuous chanting of "Chelsea " for 5 minutes before Webby scored which was incredible I arrived back in London about 9am next day and have absolutely No recollection of the intervening time Great memories FA Cup will never recover the magic it once had.

    • Time goes fast indeed ! I grew up in Toronto and used to go to all the games here and noticed Peter Lorimer in the Leeds lineup. He played in Toronto in 1979. In those days only the FA cup was live on TV !

    • @@riobabic8960 Apparently the match had the highest tv viewing figures for a sporting event after the 1966 world cup final. 28 million in the uk alone. Plus a massive world wide audience. Its such a shame the F A Cup lost its way somehow. Lorimer was part of the "Leeds Machine" in the 70s and the 1970 Cup Final sparked a fierce rivalry between the two clubs. Wonderful days!

  • This game is the stuff of legend. Probably the greatest English club game ever. Certainly the most watched on TV. Gets better with time. What a battle for at what the time was the most prestigious title in global club football. Winning the FA Cup was a very special thing & was considered even more important than winning the league title.

  • I'm a millennial so was never blessed with seeing 70's football live, but I just love it. This is real football. The players kicking the shit out of each other on the field, with occasional punches being thrown now and then. It may have been dirty and gritty, but diving and efforts to fool the referee were rare. No concerted effort was made to get opponents sent off and at the end of the game they shake hands and get along. You could tell they respected eachother. That's all gone now, and it's a rot that goes all the way to the top. Messi and his countrymen vs. Holland in the World Cup is a prime example of this. Cheating is expected and widely understood as a part of the game. I wish we could go back to the old days.

  • Both goalkeepers in the replay went on to become postmen on remote Scottish islands (Peter Bonetti - Chelsea - Mull, David Harvey - Leeds - Sanday, Orkney). Gary Sprake (Leeds goalkeeper in the first game) had a very bad back injury which required many years of treatment and would have ruled him ineligible had he applied to the GPO for a job after his playing career had finished.

  • Years ago in our office, we had a trivia nut who used to get us through boring Friday afternoons by throwing up a debate "Greatest pop song of all time?" "Greatest F1 driver?" And a fair few relating to females that would probably get a fella sacked in the 21st century too LOL. One day his topic was "Greatest Horror movie of all time?" And after a few minutes of debate with the usual suspects being suggested, a craggy old hand entered the office and was asked for his opinion. He paused briefly and than said in a great East Belfast brogue "Easy. 1970 cup final replay. Fucken bloodbath" and left the scene. a few seconds of silence and then we all fell apart laughing. One of those in the moment things that sticks with me over thirty years later.

  • Tomorrow nights match with Leeds Utd in the FA Cup 5th round 28/2/24 brought me here . I remember being the only Chelsea supporter at Thorpe Middle School in Idle, Bradford W.Yorkshire in 1970. Everybody, but everybody supported Leeds and nobody gave the Blues a chance that April night. I nearly cried when my hero Peter Osgood scored the equaliser with that diving header, and Dave Webb hit the winner. To me that was a greatest Chelsea side ever, even with the recent success of the Abramovich years, to me you cant beat the 1970s squad. Sadly we have lost Johnny Hollins and Tommy Baldwin in the recent months. Only Webb,Harris McCreadie, Dempsey, Cooke and Hinton survive from that great team. If only we could go back to those great days when football was football...... Also wish they would bring back the old Chelsea Badge like at the beginning of the team caption. Hate the present badge . Anybody Agree with above ????

Also, there's something not right about the crowd noise. I can only assume that ITV lost (wiped) their original coverage of the entire match.

The replay is sadly overdubbed with Moore's reflective commentary and with non original crowd sounds and this all serves to rob what was a fantastic and (at that time) unique occasion of all its original atmosphere. • Certainly Leeds dominated but it was not a robbery. Leeds were beaten mentally by a Chelsea team that would simply not give up and had a few players such as Osgood and Cooke who were as good as anything Leeds had, if not better. I sensed this as the match went on when I saw it on telly at the age of 27. Leeds were a good side but could not match Chelsea's determination and ended up still looking a good side but their spirit had gone. Now aged 77 and a Chelsea supporter for 63 years. • @@abubakerrawat7240 Hi! Don't be misled by my name; I am a fellow with a beard, now grey, alas. The name has a complicated derivation. When I first went to Stamford Bridge in 1958 football was not the money-mad business it is now and was much more laid back. And cheaper. A match would cost you 10p which is equivalent to about £7 today. In those days Chelsea were very erratic, sometimes brilliant, sometimes awful and really a bit of a joke. Not a very serious football club. There was no kudos in being a Chelsea supporter but to me that didn't matter in the slightest. Now, thanks to that nice Mr Abramovich, Chelsea are big. It all seems just a bit unreal and in some ways slightly embarrassing but I think I can put up with it.

    • @@Professor3141 The prize is to win, not to be convincing. Chelsea were not lucky - they just did the important things right. Drogba's header near the end for the equaliser was one of the most stunning bits of skill and bravery I have ever seen even allowing for my natural bias. When Drogba stepped up for that final penalty I just knew he would score. So did the Bayern keeper and probably the whole Bayern team as well. Just as with the 1970 Cup Final replay Chelsea's opponents could not deal with their spirit and sheer will to win.

    • Great game.Went there by car with a few friends. Was only 16. Hoping Leeds would win after dominating the Wembley match. My brother was at the opposite end of the ground as a Chelsea supporter. Fair play to Chelsea for coming from behind in both games to lift the trophy. For me, John Holland was the man of the match, in which all players were excellent. Sad night for me and my fellow Leeds fans, but glad my brother went back to London a happy man.
