Former SNP leader John Swinney is the "best person we have" to take over as first minister after Humza Yousaf quit, Stephen Flynn, the SNP's Westminster leader, tells Sky News.
"These are serious times, serious times deserve serious politicians and they don't get much more serious than John Swinney," he says.

The Scottish people are tired of paying the price for the obsessive wrong belief of the SNP that independence will make things better for Scotland. They won't. It'll make it infinitely worse in every aspect. The SNP hierarchy know that, and have cleverly manoeuvred themselves out of the equation over the last few years, rather than face the music. Stephen Flynn has to "own" his advice to Humza Yousaf to sack the Greens, he got it wrong. The SNP have to appeal to the Scottish electorate not just to the "comfortable slipper" old guard in the Scottish National Party.
