speaking Italian, I find the lyrics fantastic! full of irony , feminist references...this song has it all! ...I cling more towards voting the NO and CH songs but I play this every day !
I also recommend you to check out her cover night performance, she performed "La Rondine", one of her late father Pino Mango's songs. That performance was also one of the reasons how she won Sanremo, She received a standing ovation for about a minute in Teatro Ariston

This is my current winner. To be fair Italy could have sent a lot of other songs and they would have been my top pick now as well - but this WAS my most favorite by a hair. Sanremo was simply awesome this year. She’s a great performer/singer and I love her style. This is incredibly catchy. Oh, also. You need to see the live as well, this is executed so perfectly!

THis is the strongest Sanremo that I have personally seen since I managed to start following it online about 15 years ago.. This easily ranks up there with some of the amazing Sanremos back in the 80s. Poor artists next year gonna have a helluva job trying to follow THAT. And with Amadeus gone now, it will be interesting to see if his succesor keeps the emphasis on bringing in new/young artists.
just to clarify, please don't say "italy could have sent" when referring to italian artists. sanremo's last purpose is that of having someone to take part in the eurovision. the winner gets to choose whether to go or not but sanremo festival is way more important than eurovision for us and even artists don't participate with the goal of going to eurovision
@@toms131 I’m sure it is more important to most artists taking part. But they ARE also all potential Eurovision artists, that’s simply a fact. Not sure why you’d have an issue with this in the first place either. Or how else you’d say it. Seems like odd nitpicking to me to be honest. Even if it is their last purpose - which I think is assuming you know the minds of all the artists and I’d wager you don’t - it still IS part of the purpose - or they’d have picked someone through some other process. I’m well aware that nobody winning HAS to go and that some have passed on the opportunity - but funnily enough some in the top always accepts and it’s more often than not the winner of the contest. I think I’m going to stick with “could have sent” because that’s the reality. Don’t know what your mission with your comment was here but… don’t police my words with nonsense.

Agree. It was truly unexpected the first time I listened to the song in Sanremo, the live rendition of that part was phenomenal because after that energy nobody thought it could have a moment like that. That part made me think: "Yeah, she can totally win Sanremo". So happy she did.

You should have watched the live performance of sanremo. She nailed it so much! And with the live orchestra it was obviously nex level.
True! Her live performance was spot on, but I think she needs to add some more of the fashion and theatrics like in the MV on the Eurovision stage for maximum impact.
And I didn't like it at all - so it's a matter of taste. Italy alternates for me between really good songs and truly dreadful ones - this is the latter type.

@@freemangriffin4953 yes i agree that Italy is hit and miss. Mahmood/Blanco and Mengoni were boring, and only placed top 10 because Italy will place top 10 whatever they send. Angelina Mango is her own level of fabulousness. For me, she ranks above Maneskin in originality, and in the same class in terms of performance.
If you watch her live performance, you'll see she is EVEN BETTER. The way she delivers, the confidence and her voice. It really feels like a total package

Angelina's father was a beloved Italian singer who sadly died on stage a few years ago. La Rondine was his song and one that Angelina performed at Sanremo in his honor. Very moving song....
The lyrics are so Deep and "oxymoric" too. In the beginning, the boredom she speaks of is "melancholia, depression, the feeling of emptiness after a trauma (probably the death of her father when she was a child, which led her to leave school, only to return a year later and move away, hence the reference to changing cities again), the sense of vanity of vanities of everything. Then the boredom is transformed, it is no longer something she suffers, but she decides to celebrate it, to have a party, to move from passivity to action. In the end, boredom is what we have when we are not suffering. Out of respect for the suffering we have gone through, we must celebrate boredom, normalcy, which is not an "innocent" normalcy, but one charged with thought and awareness.

This song makes me so proud to be italian, really! I already love the song so much but with every reaction video in which people love it and are excited about it I love it more and more. I'm not sure we'll win again the Eurovision, but it would be totally deserved if that happened. I wasn't an Angelina's fan before Sanremo but I became one instantly when she performed this song, it's so good. Dardust and Madame worked on the song as well and you can clearly hear it, they're amazing too. I would like to see you reacting to the live performance of this song in Sanremo as well, though the music video is really great, I love it!
I think many of us find ourselves in the odd situation of wanting Italy to win, but NOT wanting RAI to organize it again.. 1991 and 2022 are rather embarassing fumbles for RAI.

that top 7 was truly MURDEROUS, and only a tiny bit behind were Mannoia and few others. Povera Annalisa... such brillliant songs she beings, only to get pipped by something even more amazing on that particular year. She needs to bring "Sincermente' level bop on a down year fo rSanremo! LOL

This is a great entry from Italy 🇮🇹 Angelina is a great singer and she moves so well. The song 🎵 is so catchy upbeat and has a great tempo. Her acapella at the end was great. So for me that's a 12 points from Ireland 🇮🇪.

This is a wonderful song and performance (at Sanremo); I'm really impressed by her confidence and energy on stage, and the song has a really electric, engaging quality to it. I just hope that some of the vivacity it has isn't lost at Eurovision because there's no orchestra (I think back to 2017 in this instance). Her mother was part of a group that appeared at Sanremo twice in the 90s and her father was also a musician too, so maybe it was written in the stars for Angelina to be at this festival and win.

I love love love that you mentioned how her fast paced singing is running up against the instrumental. she's singing about being a small town girl longing for the city, and the music perfectly reflects that idea. her live performance in sanremo is absolutely captivating, especially the a capella section. easily a 10/10, top 3 at least in eurovision, a masterclass in artistry. cannot say enough good things about it

Sanremo was at a high level this year and a lot of great songs with different styles came out. In particular, Angelina, Annalisa, Mahmood were truly great.

My pain of Annalisa not winning was smoothed over by radio and press votes overcoming the Geolier televote. I still prefer Sinceramente to La Noia (there's actually a few more songs from Sanremo I have higher personally than La Noia but that's besides the point), but I'm happy a woman finally won Sanremo again and will represent Italy in Eurovision.

Btw the beat is not tropical, it's inspired by folklore music from South Italy, like Tarantella, Pizzica and so on. They are all characterised by quick drums and a very intense beat.

Just a few additional notes about the song: the lyrics are by Angelina and Madame (who participated in the Festival di Sanremo last year), and the music is by Madame, Angelina, and Dardust (the composer behind Lazza's 'Cenere,' Elodie's 'Due,' La Rappresentante di Lista's 'Amare,' and many songs by Mahmood), true talents of contemporary Italian music.

The major to minor chord which you associate to R&B is a traditional mark of old school Neapoltan music. Angelina is not from Napoli but she has embraced by choice the music culture of Napoli, and such influence can be heard in a lot of her music.

Great commentary as always. Her lyrics acknowledge the Hispanic American influence. "La cumbia de la noia." Cumbias are a style of music that originated in central America, Panama I think.

Colombia, not Panama. And the rhythm of cumbia blends with those typical of southern Italy, which are traditionally very similar. The influences are the same as Spanish music (Arabic music and then the Spanish reigned for centuries) and in the south there is the same passion for percussion. Not for nothing, she sings deliberately using the Neapolitan accent.

Okay where do I begin. Ever since Maneskin the Italians have merged contemporary sounds (instrument composition) with their classical vocals and they have been contenders every year. I have never been to Miami, but the sound gave me vibes of dining in a small authentic Cuban cafe, that is being run by an exile, in Little Havana, a sound which gave us Gloria Estefan, but here without the 80's synths. The Italians have also done a smart thing here by not showing a live performance. If they can land the staging side of the entry then this is a clear winning hope!
She's the Daughter of Pino Mango, a singer and musician who died 10 years ago (when she was 13) during a concert. At Sanremo Angelina performed "La Rondine", a famous song by Her father which talks about letting go someone who died and now is in the sky like a bird (Rondine is a little bird). And that's a moving cover at Sanremo. I suggest to react to that performance by Angelina. See you❤

You absolutely deserve more recognition and followers, dear Rachel, I'm looking forward to your 20k! Top notch review, so captivating and on point. About the song, I personalyy didn't recognized its energy and freshness at first (I preferred Annalisa's one) but it grew on me and now I found myself singing it in my head every day! Angelina is so cute and humble, but also so confident, she deserved her victory, she really has some talent (and good genes). If you want to discover some amazing 80'-90' italian pop I suggest to listen to her father's songs, the great Mango with his unique voice style: Lei Verrà or Bella d'Estate are so, so beautiful, you won't regret it.
Sanremo is always excellent, but this year I loved it even more. Italy showing again why they are a powerhouse in music. Her live performances were also brilliant, you mentioned attitude in the video, but live is attitude multiplied by 100. She is beautiful and has very sassy attitude which I love, but Annalisa's song was by far my favorite and her vocals I enjoyed way more. But congratulations to Mango and I am excited to see the results go slay queen!
Yes, I agree. Annalisa was the best performer with the best song. Angelita Mango has a beautiful voice, but this song is pretty common, like many other summer hit. It’s hard to listen for me. Nothing more to say, I’ve got too much respect for her father.

Hi there, I just subscribed to your channel, I like your measured comments on the video. This song is for me the winner of Eurovision this year. And don't forget that this Spanish feeling or something like easy flamenco style is typical for Italian music of the south part. Don't forget that Spaniards dominated for three centuries South Italy, so this is also typical and Angelina Mango comes from Matera in South Italy. I'm a musician myself - apart from Gualazzi, all my past Sanremo's favourites never managed to win (often not even in the first 10). Btw - I dismissed BNKR44 initially but they got me hooked while listeing to Governo Punk by chance on the radio while driving - surely the most underrated entry this year as they ended 28th out of 30....and yes - if that wasn't clear from the start - Angelina is my number 1 (in front of BNKR44 and Mahmood).
@@stefanogortaldi3156 I agree, the BNKR44 are much better than they have been rated, but the Italian audience turns deaf every time they hear a music style they don't know. That's why I was amazed by Angelina's win; even her track is quite original in various aspects, although it's mainly technical aspects that the general audience doesn't usually grasp.

take the chance to listen the live version in sanremo, the arragianent is less electronic and the live instruments sounds better! as musician you'll love it! many sounds from all over the world, it remaids me south america, spain and balcan. the melody line specially in the brake downs is a trademark of south italy.clever compoition!

Please react to her cover La Rondine ( Sanremo 2024 ). This is not the winning song of the Festival, but it is a cover of a beautiful song by his father, Pino Mango, an exceptional and much loved singer, both in Italy and abroad. Angelina, her daughter, when she had only thirteen years old, was present, together with her brother and her mother, at her father's concert, where he unfortunately lost his life due to a heart attack. Angelina sings this song of her father like a tribute, that's why so much connection, so much emotion (incredibly well controlled), she sings it with all of herself. Pure heart, pure love for the father, pure Art.
As an Italian I really wanted Annalisa to win, I'm biased because she's one of the only Italian contemporary artists I like (I mostly listen to music in English) but watching reviews about this song made me realize it's really good and I think Angelina deserves to win Eurovision and I think she will. You should definitely look up the lyric translation, it's crucial to really understanding the song, not only this one but every song you listen being English (I might be wrong but you sound English) and the lyrics are in a foreign language. I'm so glad you liked it, I dismissed it at first but now I really like it as welll

The first live Sanremo's version is the best in my view (the long sexy dress - she know how to move those hips). If she brings those creepy braids (in the video) in Malmo she's is going to win big time. Then we need to see and appreciate the competitors - but so far, I can't see the other 13 seen so far challenging Angelina (not even close). I'd been very critical of past Italian entries - but this year there nothing wrong with Angelina - a mix of quirkness (which I love) and great vocals and energetic stage presence. The song isn't easy to sing..but it's very energetic, organic and juicy (lika a Mango) and full of entertaining nuances (both vocal and gestural) and clever tricks (you've noticed the brass and guitar alternating) which keep it interesting over time.
Live performance (first evening Sanremo) was even better, fantastic.
Also check out Angelina Mango's cover of her father's song La Rondine at Sanremo. Her father was a famous musician who died while performing on stage 10 years ago. Angelina was in the audience at that concert...

This song was written by her father, a famous Italian singer and songwriter, Pino Mango, who 10 years ago died while was performing on the stage, and baby Angelina was there to her father's concert...
