Hello everybody!🖐 The Restorer is with you again.🔥😎
I want to share with you my next video of the restoration of a very beautiful and unique lighter, which surprised me greatly. This unique lighter was handmade a long time ago. I came to this conclusion after examining the surface of the lighter, it is damaged by time and use. There are minor notches, chips and shells on the surface of the metal. On its surface there is a mystical "duck" icon with an ornament. What could it mean and who made it? If you know, write in the comments. I am very interested. The body of this beautiful gasoline lighter is decorated with a material unknown to me, it looks like a composite material, strong wood, or bakelite. I don't know exactly what it is. The person who gave me this rare lighter said that it could have been made by the prisoners in the prison and that the symbol of the duck on it means something in the language of the prisoners. My guess is that this ancient lighter is over 100 years old. If you have information or guesses about the origin, age, and historical value, please write in the comments. It will be interesting to learn more.
I hope you liked the result!
Also, do not forget to rate my work in the comments from 1 to 10.😉

10 well deserved. This lighter is something Detective Poirot will be proud to light his cigarette.🕵️
On a scale of 1 to 10, this is an 11. Can I purchase it?
Este isqueiro ficou excelente. Parabéns pelo trabalho!
I give it a nine! The quality of the work is wonderful and I loved seeing the various parts cleaned, restored, polished and brought back into perfect working order. The only reason I didn't give it a 10 is the lack of background and dialog explaining what the restorer did and why he chose to do it "that way". I'm a history enthusiast and would have liked to know when these lighters first became available and how much they cost when new as opposed to what they're selling for now. And why is it called a "gasoline" lighter?
Aldgj
Love watching these restorations, very calm and peaceful. It's very hypnotic ( for me anyway), and I love the fact there's no talking. Just letting your work speak for you. Excellent ❤
Thanks!👍 Where are you watching from?🌍😉
My father had lighter like that one. He bought it in Germany back in the late fifties at a stationary supply. Give it a 10!
Cool!👍 Thank you😉
:0 I was just thinking it seemed to be from the 50s just because style!
I've seen a lighter like that before at a gun show. I was told it's a commemorative lighter for the duck hunters assoc. in 1930s England sponsored by the Parker shotgun co (now owned by Remington). Apparently Teddy Roosevelt received one after a duck hunting expedition. I'm not sure if that's accurate, but it does fit.
Wow cool info. Thank you very much👍👌😉
@@ingwe87 I'm not really sure, but I think they're just marks on the peuter that originally details but have worn down over the years
Wow! Just amazing. Such attention to detail. And blessed silence. No annoying background music.
Thank you very much!)
I give it a 10. Beautiful restoration. I don't understand how folks are saying it's fake 🤔 it's definitely not like one of those carpet restorations where they pull a carpet out of their back yard after covering it with mud and dirt and call it a restoration. Your work is beautiful! And folks saying it's boring, you mispronounced relaxing. This stuff puts me to sleep because it's so chill and fun to watch.
Probably calling it fake because most of the corrosion was the wrong color to be as old as claimed, and there is no way that cotton wading would come out that clean. It would absolutely have corrosion staining and darkening on it. Plus rust and corrosion on the wood (possible plastic) parts of the lighter body? No extreme putting of the metal? The thin wire spring would be metal dust and debris given the exterior corrosion as well. Very suspicious.
Thank you😊😉💚

Esqueiro pra vida toda, só encher quando acabar. Parabéns pelo belo trabalho, muito bom.
The restoration was beautiful. Definitely a 10. What I also noticed and enjoyed was that the only sound was each piece being struck, rubbed or dropped, even the fizz of the coke and baking soda. 😊 This is a cool video.

This guy DOES NOT RESTORE ANYTHING... HE TAKES A CLEAN ITEM AND COOKS SUGAR AND DIRT ONTO IT, HE DOESNT EVEN HAVE TO CLEAN IT BECAUSE HE JUST SHIWS WHAT IT LOOKED LIKE. EFOR HE COVERED IT IN FAKE RUST.. ALL HIS ITEMS ARE BRASS.. BRASS DOESNT RUST!
So corroded that all the screw threads came undone with nice clean threads. I also noticed your first squirts of oil knocked off most of the corrosion. The little brass cover around the wick was bright and shiny. I've fixed and restored enough vintage engineering and mechanical stuff in my life to know what I'm seeing.
This is youtube, even brass rusts red as a fox here..

Is that the olympic rings that are engraved into the duck? If so, this lighter might be connected to the 1928 olympic games. The Australian sculler, Bobby Pearce, slowed down to let a duck and her ducklings cross the canal they were racing on... in the middle of the race! 🙂
It does appear to be the Olympic rings on the duck.
I am not so sure they're the Olympic rings...I paused the playback and enlarged the image, and the rings are random, and there are more than 5 of them, all over the top half of the duck. Good idea, though!
I thought it looked like the Olympic Rings too, at first, but then I saw that there were more that 5.
Just been reading up on MrBobby Pearce.. well worth a look. Only lost one race, (finished 2nd) an under 16s' event, he was 6! went on to win everything else he entered in his lifetime! the Duck race; the competitor he was up against went 5 lengths clear and was still beaten by 30 seconds... He held a world record for something like 40 years, only beaten in 1979... An astonishing guy. Would be a nice story if the lighter was in commeneration of the events of that race in the 1928 Olympics. The style of the lighter looks about right for that date?? 🤩🤩
Cool, I didn't know such details about this Olympics. Maybe it was made in honor of this)

The spring loaded dousing cap was introduced in the 1930s. However, the sandwiching of materials here in the lighter body is something I see more commonly in 1970s. I would say maybe early 1970s. Back in the day, you could purchase such lighters at a jeweller and they would add a custom commemorative plaque such as the duck for the avid duck hunter.
Cool! Thanks for the info!
They would just glue on a duck?
@@Tenebarum Yup. Get a custom name on it, and the jeweller would just glue or solder it on.

The fake aging is not quite movie quality yet.
Why?
@@TheRestorer Because it still looks f4k3 af..
The wooden part was rusted? I don't think so. What about the spring that tensioned the snuffer? That wasn't disassembled. It would have been a rusty mess. The cotton would not have been white.
What a great restoration of that rust old lighter♡
Thank you!)
Hipnotizante essa restauração,tem detalhes pequenininho que eu pensei que não ia dar certo, mas deu , parabéns 😊
The flint spring and the interior cotton were brand new as well as the threads on the screws. You've artificially rusted this by coating it in salt and water. Just so you have something to restore.
@Jim Jerome I'm wondering the same thing.
Better question! Why put fake crap on when we would like to see the art of a thru craftsmanship! Its fun to watch what untalented people fall for! Most 10 ratings have never restored ANYTHING themselves!!!So just dont know!!! They should be greatful for people that take true pride in restoring something!!

I know one thing- not only do you need very dexterous hands and nimble and steady fingers for this kind of work, but also a stable temperament and a massive amount of patience, all of which I lack. On a score of 1 to10. I'd give this a 10, for the fiddliness of the item and work, and the final result
Thank you!)
I dont understand what adding the sodium bicarbonate does? It would just neutralize the phosphoric acid in the Coke. If you didnt add the baking soda I think those parts would clean up in a fraction of the time. Letting the acid in the Coke do its job
I see a lot of restorers on KZhead using vinegar and bicarb the same way - they didn't pay attention in science class! The fizz is nice I guess 😉
I thought the same thing.
Just use white vinegar. Cheaper and faster.
Beautiful
Showmanship. Just for the looks and drama
I think the duck wasn't there from the begining. It was applied at some point by the owner just for fun...
Was the owner a hunter? It looks like there are Olympic rings on the duck
Another excellent 👌 project 10/10
Thank you💚👍😉
Nice work. Beautiful lighter.

Fraud: The wood (possibly plastic) veneer is covered in red rust. Neither wood nor plastic rust. All he did was remove debris that he put there himself. He literally wiped off a lighter that was supposedly sitting in PH neutral, flat soda for 12 hours. Note how after soaking in sugar there was no stickiness involved. I love watching craftsman return something destroyed to usefulness. He's doing a fraction of the work for all the accolades.
Of course, plastic cannot rust, rust got on it from rusty metal parts.
🤨 - I think this restorer is genuine, as he has a euro extension lead that he plugged his micro-drill into, and when he showed his hands; they were a pale pink he was like myself, a European/Russian westerner = we care about what we are restoring and the thing is found like that before it is restored. (Yes, the spring looks suspiciously unaffected, as does the cotton insert ~ but the lighter was possibly? so well sealed that the corrosion didn’t get to them). Could you [@therestorer] identify yourself as genuine, and how did you find the lighter?
@@samuelfellows6923 because he's European and white (by your assessment) he's honest? I'm not sure I like the racist implications here. I don't immediately believe that someone who's Indian, Middle Eastern, African, etc is dishonest due to the color of their skin or their place of birth/residence.
@@B6937 Surely,"white people" would never fake anything, don't you buy all those nice WW2 LEICA-cameras from Russia ??
@Hansemann Luchter what are you on about. 1st, you're necroing a thread that's long dead. 2nd, you failed to completely read the thread post where I already called out someone who was trying to be racist. 3rd, if you are fraudulent for money (ad revenue) or accolades, then you deserve to be called out regardless of national origin
"1" A great example of another probably fake, and definitely boring, "restoration"!
🤨Thank you for your rating "1"
You are a little boy. A troll. Go away and troll somewhere else. Nobody thinks you're clever. Nobody thinks your funny. You. Don't. Matter.
Instead of just saying fake, can you give a time stamp where there is evidence? Not sure about you but I’m not seeing anything and the devil is in the details. Wearing gloves, covering the tips of the tools that come into contact with sensitive parts and the methodology he uses to restore is a pretty solid regimen. Why do all of that if it’s just fake to get views? It would be a waste of time. I could be wrong though. Evidence is important before dismissal of someone’s hard work. KZhead channels are difficult to maintain without a lot of effort, consistent content or people. :)
10 man. A masterful restoration! :)
@culturemyworld2362 And yet he got you to not only watch, but comment as well. So I think he wins this point 🤔 I liked it. If it's a "fake" (not sure what's fake about removing dirt, rust and tarnish) then keep telling me lies. Great job! It might be an award lighter for Ducks Unlimited 🤔

solid 9.25. Mark Novak, (anvil gunsmith youtube) does a tutorial on restoring screw heads that would be, I think, beneficial given how those are distorted. I'd've loved to see you do a little work on the wooden sections -- something as simple as a buffing with a bit of preservative and wool -- as well. The work here is wonderful, and I'm very impressed with the final result. I would've also appreciated information on the "stuffing" material from inside: what went into your bin looked as clean as what went back into the lighter, which seems unusual. Nothing wrong with saving/reusing that sort of thing, is there? But tell us.
Ok! Thank you!😉👍💚
