I had already seen the room and grotto before, so I was wondering if we would see another room type craft for this MerMay. I do understand that doll rooms take a lot of time, so if you already have videos planned for the month, or might just not have the mental energy, I understand! But if you did want to make something that wasn’t a full on room, you could create a small dock on a patch of sand. Thank you!

  • i think a good idea would be to make a mold the dolls legs and then fill the mold with a silicone that’s slightly dense but not dense enough that it flops back into place and not light or thin enough that it flips everywhere. Once it’s filled remove the mold from the silicone and this will be your tail base. Once done, carefully cut the legs off of the doll just to leave the torso, arms and head. Now in any way you’re comfortable with, wether that’s hot glue or something else, attach the silicone tail base to the cut torso. If you want you can add a few layers of liquid latex to cover the visible lines and blend the tail in with the skin. Now i’d either draw a tail design and stick a thin see through plastic sheet and make a tail with clay by putting the clay on the plastic sheets above the drawing we drew. Wait for the clay to dry and try and take that off the sheet and make a mold over that to fill with a dense silicone or a thin silicone so it’s floppy. You could also just draw your tail design (or trace it) onto a piece of paper and put a thin sheet of plastic over the drawing, next get some liquid latex and paint over the plastic sheet and trace out the tail with the silicone over the plastic sheet. Do multiple layers so once you do a layer, wait for it to dry and do another and repeat until it’s as thick as you’d like it. If you do the moms method or the silicone method, take the new silicone or latex fin and stick it to the tail in any way you’d like. If you use latex i recommend adding a light powered on top since first and dust can stick to latex but latex is easier than making a mold but it’s harder to display or play with. Once you stick the fin to the tail you can now paint it. This method is easier to play with since in the video, she put the tail around the doll’s legs which decreases the mobility an actual fish or mermaid has. With silicone the tail can now easily flex and bend like a fish or dolphin would instead of having legs inside with a knee joint. You could also however do the whole process she did, make the hot glue mermaid tail, but once made and painted, cut the legs off of the doll and fill the hot glue tail with silicone but not all the way to the top and leave a few cm space so you can put glue down there to stick on the doll so the tail covers the area you cut. So the tail is now floppy and has more of a floppy mobility. Glue or stick the silicone to the doll and if you left a space, the hot glue tail should come up the torso a bit so you now cannot see the area you cut if you haven’t painted the tail yet. I recommend pairing the tail whilst the doll still has legs. The only flaw to this method is you obviously won’t be able to take off the tail and use the doll for something else.

  • I really love this mermaid tail out of hot glue. It has so much details. Now, here are my Pros and Cons: Pros: Amazing details, great job of making the mermaid tail, the fin was my favorite of all parts of the tail. Great work. The pattern was definitely a plus, Great for sewing a mermaid tail using fabrics. Cons: I really wanted the tail to be flexible and stretchy so it can fit other dolls like curvy, tall, petite and IT toys girls Personally, I would have preferred the mermaid tail to be a little longer so it can fit IT toys girls. But, that's just my personal opinion and reference. I would have loved the mermaid scales to be realistic and real-looking but, that's just me. Overall, I really like this mermaid tail crafts for Mer-May. It looks so real. Love it. P.S Are you going to use this mermaid tail for mermaids in another dimension on Sommer and Cali? If you use it, that would look so cool!

  • You could use a scale print Silicone Embossing/Impression Mat to make the scales more easily. They're normally used to make textured fondant but I bet if they're made of silicone they might work for hot glue too. You could make textured cobblestone, trees, flower beds, or even 3d subway tiles. And because they'd be made from a mold you can use it again and again for tons of rooms. Just make sure the mats are made of silicone, many fondant embossing mats are made of a hard rubber or plastics.
