World's First De Tomaso P72 Prototype

This is the world's first De Tomaso P72 prototype. Only 72 units of the P72 will ever be made, however, De Tomaso has currently produced 9 prototypes of this incredible car. The De Tomaso P72 is the definition of luxury as it's covered in rose gold and has wing mirrors and rims made out of copper. The body of the P72 is made completely out of carbon fiber making it the strongest car in the world. Sergi gives us an exclusive look at why the De Tomaso P72 is one of the coolest cars in the world.

  • I followed a Pantera one night in a town in the UK. It was a near mythical car in those days.. Couldn't believe one was in front of me. A new De Tomaso after all these years and this design is just stunning. It actually looks like a De Tomaso too!

  • That my friend is what a rolling masterpiece looks like. Just as far as beauty is concerned from the inside out, this and the Pagani Utopia have to be two of the most beautiful cars in the world. If I could only have two cars in my dream garage it would be a De Tamaso P72 and the Pagani Utopia. The fact both come with manuals is just the icing on a very sweet cake.

  • This protype clearly still has the originally planned v12 in it. For me it is an absolutely stunning car, perhaps one of if not the best looking modern car. My issue is definitely with the engine being a supercharged engine. While I absolutely love V8’s, I just think a v12 is so much more fitting for this particular vehicle.

  • Great seeing a lot more details of the P72 than any other video has shown! It will be interesting to see what will change in order to meet EPA/DOT requirements. E.g., the steering wheel, while cool, would have to be equipped with an airbag so it won't look the same - at least for the US market. Hopefully the styling will be little impacted from crash requirements and the manual 6-speed is retained.

  • The time I first saw the Mangusta (forget the inferior-looking Pantera), I followed it for ten or fifteen minutes all around La Jolla (San Diego) until it stopped, so I could examine it. It was THAT amazing looking. Here, De Tomaso does NOT disappoint. Bravo!

  • I really love this car. Interior like Pagani, such a unique exterior, amazing sound, just a spectacular automobile with performance to match its looks. Gold may have a lower melting point, but it is the best heat conductor and was used on the McLaren F1. I hope they can get the slack and some of the whines out of the transmission is my only criticism.

  • It's a pity that the Chinese-owned DeTomaso decided to make cars for the ultra-wealthy. This car is like a Gucci handbag. Beautiful, but practically useless. Few will ever own one and the ones that do, won't drive it. I mean, seriously, you couldn't take this on a road trip. It has absolutely no storage, not even a glove box. And what's up with the ridiculous exhaust? I guess you will never be able to park this car outside or drive it in the rain. This car betrays its roots in almost every way, except the engine. Rose gold and quilted leather scream nouveau riche. Alejandro de Tomaso and Tom Tjaarda must be rolling in their graves.

  • Sounds like a V12 to me, but I hear the production model will have a supercharged Roush 5.0, which doesn't sound bad at all. Anyhow, I'm not into supercars, don't really care for them, but I sure appreciate something like this, as it keeps the spirit of the hand-built sports car alive and well, it's definitely no cookie cutter lambo, this is on another level, and clearly a passion project.
