I built world's most overkill digital wall clock for $0.00
Thanks again to PCBWay for sponsoring this video! Check out their quality PCB manufacturing service here: www.pcbway.com/
This is a little pet project I did on my second channel with no intention of even mentioning it over here on the main channel, but it turned out so well I just had to do a real video about it! It's basically a digital clock made from the most broken and abused android tablet you can imagine, no need to buy an arduino or anything of the kind, it's just some basic salvaged electronic components and scrap MDF. I absolutely love upcycling old crap like this!!
Here's a pattern for the old (still nice) analog clock:

And the frame of the 7" digital version:

IF THE STUPID ALGORITHM DIDN'T FORCE ME TO DO BORING SHIT THERE WOULD BE MUCH MORE OF THIS KIND OF PROJECT!!!!
Thats a Great Clock
Thanks it's still running BTW :)
Oh wow... Didn't expect this one but okay... I was planning on making some clocks to replace mine anyway although it would most likely not happen in near time...
Haha, good things happen unexpectedly! I originally didn't even plan on making a main channel video about it, but well here we are! I hope it's inspiring :)
🛋 : I think a controller board can be purchased for the LCD. Or somehow connect them to the Arduino.
Yeah, with some of the more obscure ones in super cheap tablets like this one it might get difficult to find an appropriate one tho
I'll let you know when I find it. )) @@ChronicMechatronic
Very cool project, but I did like the old-school loud one I think the bee makes it cool....
Yeah the old one was very nice - fun fact: the bee was never permanently attached, it's just stuck on with sellotape, haha
I liked the old one. Doesn't mean I don't like this one
@@ashers_workshop there's a PDF template for the old one in the description if you want to make it
Neat
Yup
Reason why you don't get very many watch hours from me is because I download all your video when I have good internet and watch them at my house in the woods.
Hey, cool! Don't worry about watch hours, eventually I'll get the hang of the whole yt thing and then watch hours solve themselves. Just good to know you're still there :)
I'm using an old Android tablet as a security camera monitor for a 12yo phone running IP Webcam 👍 (I can see my cat is at the back door 😆)
Yeeess I LOVE it when old stuff is reused and upcycled that way! 😅 👍👍 We still have a couple of 10yo phones knockin' about, tho not sure I can get any apps to still run on those 😂 theoretically a fancy alarm clock could be made the same way...
@@ChronicMechatronic Android 4.4 seems to be the minimum for the IP Camera apps. They work really well 👍 I sideload the apk's from uSD cards or USB stick & adaptor thru the charge port. Good thing I've got apk backups of every app I've used since my first HTC Desire Android phone in 2010👍😂
@@edwardfletcher7790 yeeah ours were the HTC desire S as well I believe! 😂 Those were some indestructible phones... However they're stuck on Android 2.3.5 which is why I haven't yet found a better use for them ☹️ (but they're still in use as MP3 players & flashlights, hahaha)
@@ChronicMechatronic You Rock Dude, thanks for the lengthy explanation 👍😆
@@edwardfletcher7790 haha, I'm bad at getting things across effectively, sorry 😆
You should refactor your Mom's clock by making round led display controlled by Arduino (or by ATMEGA microcontroller).
and my old tablet doesn't start at all ((
Aww :( not even when you plug it in? I have two totally dead ones as well, thinking they might have been fried by overvoltage of a crappy power supply...
yes, his processor is broken @@ChronicMechatronic
