  • The flat spot is an excellent idea. The GF and I went shopping and bought a whole watermelon. She knew how to do it but took off this morning without cutting it. I'm stuck with it for about a week and needed instruction. This vid was a big help. Thanks for taking the trouble to make it.

    • Yes picking them out can be tricky. I have been told to look for the yellow spot that they were sitting on in a field.

  • Make a flat spot on any fruit or vegetable where stability is needed: cutting shoestring potatoes, wedging or slicing an onion, and especially hard squashes! But be really careful with these. Consider investing in a cleaver, or long scalloped cheese or bread knife to facilitate safe entry into these very hard and large gourds/squash/berries/modified berries. (All terms are correct for these botanical berries. BTW, all melons are also berries.)
