  • We have an “Oops” category 😅😅😅

  • 5% in miscellaneous is so great! Our miscellaneous is 25% of budget. Cause we put all things that are not every month, like clothing. We could have made the multiple funds that carry over to the next month if not used, but we made one fund and it carries over, while other categories are not funds. Let’s say we have $1400 in groceries and only spent $1150, we update groceries category to $1150, and move the $250 to that miscellaneous fund last day of the month. And that fund will have that amount in the next month.

  • Great advice. I can vouch for tracking your spending. You will be surprised at how much $$$ is going to purchases you thought "Oh, I hardly spend anything on ________". A few years ago I tracked how much was being spent on restaurants/bars, drive through, carryout, and delivery meals. Oh, that can't be right...and it was LOL! Nipped that in the bud!

  • I remember when Dave said you should not have a miscellaneous category, because you’re being specific about where your money is going.

    • rachel just said, '' purchases you need''. every thing i buy, i need. it either maintains my paid for house, or allows me the serenity to get up in the morning. ''all things in moderation, nothing to excess.''

  • Good information. The envelope system really helps. Unexpected stuff comes every month. That is the toughest category to keep ahead of monthly.

    • Unexpected expenses category. What not used is carried to the next month, and next, etc. Shouldn't need it every month if doing an honest budget.

  • Thank you Rachel! I'll have to try the misc. category for dental and vision appointments, these bills are never consistent and it drives me nuts. Worst system ever, you've had my insurance for two years. You should be able to tell me how much my appointment is going to be at the beginning of my appointment and add on work from there. SMH

  • married for 29 yrs, till she passed. she was a disabled stay at home. she worked the budget, i worked the work. we were always broke, even tho the house was paid for and there was money for bills and day to day. turns out, when she passed i found closets stuffed with stuff and learned she was a shopoholic. ''just because you ''budget'', does not mean u do it well... 6 years on, i don't budget, i don't keep track and everything is auto pay. ''last 6 years have been the best ever.''

    @sarahuber8567@sarahuber856719 күн бұрын
    • Free spirit spender doesn't mean you're not good at budgeting nor does it that you can spend money when budgeting. Budgeting simply helps you keep track of your habits and bills and keep you accountable to your goals.

  • Never understood why people do this thing call budgeting. When you don’t have money, only buy what is needed to live. Also, only buy things when you have enough $.
