rather, it is simply his alcohol addiction. and the bird desire to stop drinking
The glass monster was the temptation to him
I’ve never seen alcoholism portrayed in this way, intimidating at first but even when broken on the floor it’s just happy to get another drink, smiling at you while your/it’s body crumbles to bits along with your life

A movie doesn't have to be deep and meaningful, it has to touch something inside you. This movie does that.
I agree
Surely if it had no meaning or depth it couldn't
@@richardraymond878 Yes, it has meaning, of course, but it doesn't try to be deep or profound. It doesn't need to. The impact comes from the dramatic interplay of the two characters and the emotional rollercoaster of the fisherman.
It touch the liver
the story has many perspectives, i see this as the man battling with alcohol addiction and winning the bird probably to symbolize freedom.
thank you
Alexander Sergal yh but the bird is a robin and robins signify new beginnings, patience, wisdom, passion but because the glass monster was well glass and the alcohol kept going inside him so yh i see where ur coming from
Freedom? There will never be no freedom. I believe the bird is for something that can still be done, for a hope.
I think the bird reminds he him of the beauty in the world and that he’s not alone adrift on a dark see for ever if he gets rid of his fragile self image and quits drinking
The perspective you're missing is why he's on the boat drinking in the first place.

The word albatross is sometimes used metaphorically to mean a psychological burden that feels like a curse. An Albatross was a major character in the 1798 poem The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. In the poem, an albatross starts to follow a ship - being followed by an albatross was generally considered a sign of good luck. However, the titular mariner shoots the albatross with a crossbow, which is regarded as an act that will curse the ship. The bird is placed on the sailor's neck by shipmates to show the guilt in killing it. Therefore, the albatross can be both an omen of good or bad luck, as well as a metaphor for a burden to be carried as penance.

My only sister died from alcoholism August 29 2019. She was only 33. Alcohol turned her from a gorgeous, outgoing, fun loving, caring and sweet spirited girl to a monster I no longer recognized. She left behind her family, fiancé and 2 children (my precious niece and nephew). This video resonates with me on a very emotional level. I am still very angry with her in my own grief but I’m getting better and learning to forgive her with lots of help from the Lord and His mercy
Addiction, crawls from the depths of our minds with an offer of goodwill and kindness, but if someone continues to appease it's wants and needs it will ultimately force itself upon you, either you accept it's offer to continue, or you beat it back in defiance. Alcoholism was the albatross around his neck. Whatever the other miseries in his life were, the alcohol, a supposed means of escape only exacerbated them. The little bird comes back as a harbinger of hope, and a sign of approval.

I have a relative who gets drunk to escape the pains of reality, but his emotions can be too much. I can easily reflect his situation with this beautifully animated short. The fragile glass skeleton looks like the hero of this Story. 💀 Does he hallucinate? Does he see his own future in that skeleton of glass? Even when he wants to refrain from drinking and reform, the temptation brings back the bottle and tempts him to drink more. Alcohol like 🔥 maybe an obedient servant but will soon become an evil master and monster!
I'm seeing this for the first time. Awesome animation. the ending is quite twofold, since the bottle that is being thrown by the fisherman is reaching the bottom empty and when he was sitting with the bird it still had some liquor in it. That's not a coincidence, the old albatross might have actually succumbed to temptation.
Have you considered the open bottle being thrown and filled with water (or else it would float) just might have some influence in it looking empty of liquor?
Well it was open so it would have got pulled out
Oh yeah no the bottle was already open before he tossed it so of course it emptied before it hit the bottom
The movement looks pretty real I appreciate that
I absolutely love everything about this. EVERYTHING!
I think it would've been more interesting if the creature wasn't shown as already being a glass copy of the man before the man knew it was there and the creature even saw the bottle of alcohol. I think it would've added a lot of mystery to the character. As if it was some sort of benevolent entity that exists to help people through their struggles
Very intense! I really got a little sick watching him drinking. Great Movie.
An outstanding piece of filmmaking. All facets of story, cinematography, sound, etc spot on. Well done.
Every time I watch this..... The story for this is really heart reaching.
The will he has not to be that person, not only by attacking the demon that is in him, but more greatly the enjoyment of simple life and living, in seeing an innocent bird that has blessed him with its curiosity of him. Many of us who drink feel great pain and try to bury and wash it away through drinking, ultimately causing greater pain to every time you are sober. In seeing life and living in such innocents causes us to feel the life and innocents we have once felt in ourselves, that feels so gone and absent at times. And to still yearn for it but feel it has an inevitably escaping grasp hurts too. I hope all who struggle with pain, drinking, and self preservation find their way out of it and to happiness, for I have to have the hope I can do it for myself as well.
