  • The way his addiction is personified as an aggressive but fragile creature, always loudly and insistently egging him on, and scaring away the albatross (the embodiment of reformation and hope) is so good. Way to tell a story without words. (Besides the glass man’s anyway)

  • The word albatross is sometimes used metaphorically to mean a psychological burden that feels like a curse. An Albatross was a major character in the 1798 poem The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. In the poem, an albatross starts to follow a ship - being followed by an albatross was generally considered a sign of good luck. However, the titular mariner shoots the albatross with a crossbow, which is regarded as an act that will curse the ship. The bird is placed on the sailor's neck by shipmates to show the guilt in killing it. Therefore, the albatross can be both an omen of good or bad luck, as well as a metaphor for a burden to be carried as penance.

She left behind her family, fiancé and 2 children (my precious niece and nephew). This video resonates with me on a very emotional level. I am still very angry with her in my own grief but I’m getting better and learning to forgive her with lots of help from the Lord and His mercy

  • Addiction, crawls from the depths of our minds with an offer of goodwill and kindness, but if someone continues to appease it's wants and needs it will ultimately force itself upon you, either you accept it's offer to continue, or you beat it back in defiance. "Let her rip", and forget about everything, or refuse to drink and take notice of the beauty right on your shoulder.

Now the REAL problem with all that is that it's used often as a substitute FOR storytelling rather than an aide. A simple set of props to distract the audience, nothing more. In the right hands, they can tell a surprisingly beautiful tale. Or at least one with some semblance or meaning deep behind it.

Many of us who drink feel great pain and try to bury and wash it away through drinking, ultimately causing greater pain to every time you are sober. In seeing life and living in such innocents causes us to feel the life and innocents we have once felt in ourselves, that feels so gone and absent at times. And to still yearn for it but feel it has an inevitably escaping grasp hurts too. I hope all who struggle with pain, drinking, and self preservation find their way out of it and to happiness, for I have to have the hope I can do it for myself as well.
