CORRECTION: An earlier version of this video said that Māori children were killed in the 1881 invasion of Parihaka. This has been removed as in fact Māori children were killed by British soldiers during the New Zealand Wars but not specifically Parihaka.

The Treaty of Waitangi is the foundational document of New Zealand. So is Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
And while those two names may seem like translations of each other, the issue of translation has made them two very different documents - and 184 years after their signing, debate is swirling about their validity and interpretation.
