  • Hello John,Tara,Crusoe and Sawyer……thanks for a fun filled vlog this week…Tara being stuck in the mud obviously has to be the highlight! 😅. I know very little about permaculture and sympathise with you Tara with regard to destroying habitat, but my feeling is that once you have done the necessary clearing of the ground, it will allow for strong new growth of your planting for many years to come. Birds and wildlife have an abundance of habitat on your farm, so I’m sure they will just move to the next area and be happy. I look forward to learning with you as you go. Happy Sunday to you all. With best wishes and ❤ Julie 😊

  • The size of the property you have, once you get it to a certain point you will need to consider an occasional landscaper just to keep up. You do need to consider your own time. There will only be so much of the daily chores that you will be able to keep up with. Never mind me, I remember the energy the two of us had, and still do, but not the heavy lifting anymore. That was a massive job well done. I love seeing your children. 🇨🇦🇱🇻🇬🇧

  • Hello Newbys!!! Of all the other vlogs out there I watched so far , yours is the one I love so much. The reason I love your channel is because of the way you live your life. I always sense joy, love, gladness, gratitude and hopefulness. That's one example of how one should live their lives in small or magnanimous scale. You learn from your mistakes and you apply the lessons today and your mistakes today will hopefully give lesson for tomorrow ; but you always live your life TODAY with all the goodness and frustrations in it and you always face it with love , kindness, joy , gratitude and hopefulness . I'm in my early 70s now and I lived my life the way you do and there is always TODAY. Thank you and may God's blessings shower your family ❣

  • Hello Newbys!! Great to start seeing the bones of your land, all the clearing so you can see “ the wood for the trees!!” 😂 Really chuckled at the boots getting stuck , sorry Tara , such fun 🤣🤣🤣 Your plans for retaining the character of the place are spot on, it’s in careful hands. 👍👍👍 to the chipper too , we have one and it’s satisfying to add to our compost and use on the borders. Exciting times ahead, thankyou for another smashing vlog, just ordering my seeds today too xx❤️❤️💙💙

But also so cute but funny at Cursoe laughing at his Mommy’s wellies stuck in the mud. Thank you Tara, your such a good sport to share that moment. I’d be like “I’m dying, the earth is swallowing me up! Someone help me!” Very dramatic I’d be like! 😅😂. What a fun vlog this was! Thx

  • I also love that feeling of clearing land and creating the eco-systems that are right for the land. We took down some hedgerows full of brambles, and took care to do it before the birds started nesting. Brambles are such a safe spot for birds as they prevent cats and other predators from getting to them. But they also choke everything else out as well, growing over our apple trees that came with the house and garden we purchased last year. It's always finding that balance, I find. Your property is breathing a sigh of happiness with all the love you're showering it with.

Lots of clearing done you have made some lovely friends in your community and as I have found out very helpful if you do not speak much of the language, but also I think that is how you learn the language by communicating with them you pick up words more easily. What a lovely use of recycling the ring for your strawberries. Birds will always find somewhere to go if some of the habitat is cleared and its not exactly is you are clearing all they will still be there. Its like with your clearing out with old and in with the new. Loved watching as normal . 😘

  • With trees and plants you have to remember that if you don't manage them, a monoculture can form of just one dominant species, that smothers and kills all the rest, just like with your brambles. So, by clearing the brambles back, yes, there will be a temporary hiccup to some creatures who've been living in there, but ultimately you're creating light and space to allow other plants, insects, birds and animals to thrive. So, Tara, really, really don't feel bad, you're doing a good thing, promise :) PS, the muddy field was hilarious.

  • Hi young family, all systems go it seems, I love that you've got into permaculture, everyone who has a bit of land should become involved in it, it becomes a way of life. Anything that comes from nature should be recycled eg. paper and cardboard will break down over time, depending on the size of it it becomes great compost, of course the the smaller the pieces the faster it will break down, grass clippings without seed, wood, a great base for raised garden beds reducing the amount of soil needed to fill it, all vegie scraps are a must for good , rich compost as well as leaves, twigs and paper, it was once a tree remember, anyway enough from me, the children are looking happy and healthy, I particularly loved it when Crusoe recognised the humour of Tara's boots stuck in the mud, stay well folks, cherish every moment, time is so fleeting, cheers from Oz!!🥰💕👌👍🫂

  • So great to clear land, especially of brambles! We bought a property on a river in Oregon with 2.5 acres of out of control blackberries. They were 8 feet high and covered the entire land from the house to the river. We couldn’t even get to the river without walking down the neighbors driveway! It took a bulldozer to do the initial clearing and then years of bonfires to clear the enormous mounds of earth, trunks, metal, building materials they had scraped away, plus constant cutting and mowing. We ended up with a beautiful green field that self seeded, a veggie garden and left all the blackberries down one side to make huge amounts of blackberry jam every summer and save the habitat for those who lived there. Our neighbor’s horses lived in the field.
