Celebrating the 10th anniversary of her debut this year, IU releases the digital single “BBIBBI”.
The digital single “BBIBBI” released on October 10 for her 10th anniversary is an alternative R&B style song that she tried for the first time since her debut. The song gives the pleasant and simple warning messages to those who disrespectfully crossed the line in relationships. The healthy relationships with individuals are so important in modern days that we do not control and define others by our own standards, and are equal and independent. In this situation, this song can be about everyone in the modern times.

  • "IU: 10 Years . . ."On Sep. 18, 2008, a young Korean girl appeared on a television show stage (M! Countdown). Excited and nervous with anticipation she sang her new song -- an emotional ballad, as near flawlessly as the best of young people in her situation, and faced her results -- being insulted and essentially, boo'ed off the stage by fans of a popular boy-group.But she did not give up. Taking advice from her management company and the common beliefs of the industry, she lost a bit of weight (she was not particularly overweight)dressed in brighter stage clothes and sang up-beat songs, sometimes with some choreography.But that was not the whole story. She scrambled from small engagement to small engagement, sometimes with her guitar to sing requests, and slowly built up a reputation for having a bright smile, engaging laugh and a pleasant young voice, with a very good range.She and her songs slowly grew in popularity, until one day, one of her songs "Good Day" took her country by storm, dominating its measures of popularity for months (Gaon's Digital Chart number 1 for 5 consecutive weeks). If you look at some of the "explanation" videos, they give a lot of detail and generally good analysis. I mostly agree with what I have seen, yet for some reason, I have not found a mention of what I feel is most significant. The line that to me is the centerpiece of this song is a simple statement: "... still here". IU is "still here". Jieun (or Jigeum as is one of her nicknames) is "still here". If you have a ticket to one of her concerts, she will be on the stage in front of you. She is "still here".And "still here" is a huge understatement. No longer a struggling newcomer, she worked hard and achieved more that any of her contemporaries in her field. Just looking at 2017 - 2018 IU received:For music: 2017 Melon Music Awards Album of the Year "Palette" also Song Writer of the Year 2017 Mnet Asian Music Award Female Artist of the Year 2018 Korean Music Awards Best Album "Palette" 2018 Seoul Music Awards Album of the Year "Palette" 2018 Golden Disc Song of the Year (Digital Song Daesang) "Through the Night"Also, for 2017: 2017 Billboard named "Palette" (the album) the best K-Pop album of 2017 and The New York Times named "Palette" (the song) as one of "25 Songs That Tell Us Where Music Is Going"For acting: 2018 APAN Star Awards "Top Excellence Award, Actress in a Miniseries" and a nomination for "K-Star Award, Actress"So, looking back at the beginning and the years of hard work in between, and the poor treatment she, and many other entertainers have endured, I would say that this is the first and most important thing I see in this song. She's still here! If you get a chance to attend her concerts, you will know how fortunate you are. I can't. But that's ok because she will have another album soon, and I will have a chance to hear it. She is still here. . . .For IU, and for all her fans, have happy November 1, 2018. What is special about this day? Nothing really. But it is a "Good Day", so enjoy it!

    • Thanks for your comments. Most of the information is in Wikipedia, and members of the fan club know all this and more. In fact, some of the members were probably there in the audience at her debut. But as I commented before, I have been impressed by how good her fans are as people. They know all this happened. So I think they try to do better.

    • If you watch how she develops her childhood through being a singer, you'll see that when she was much younger she used to be very enthusiastic, happy and bubbly. As she aged she lost these characteristics and she mentions in a tv show that she doesn't want to express her feelings because she doesn't want anyone to know what she is truly feeling inside. You can tell that she was hurt a lot by the media and people throughout her years. So I can still to this day feel that her personality is a lot darker, calm and less bubbly than she used to be when she was young. I mean, I guess it's also to do with her being so skinny. She lost like 10kg (intentionally) and I hear that in general if people lose a lot of weight, their personalities tend become a lot less energetic and you know "depressed" like?

  • it's important to note that this song isn't reserved solely for 'haters', but also a lot of fans who believe they are entitled to the ins and outs of an idols life. I think she is calling out everyone in the kpop industry, reporters, fans everyone who will take the slightest bit of 'evidence' and create a big story for their own entertainment. Perhaps we have all fallen victim to this or perhaps we like to watch on the sidelines. Either way, this song is like a reminder that the idols are aware, and they don't stand for it.

  • Looking at the lyrics again, I know that this is meant to be a takedown of people gossiping about IU but I've always taken it differently. For me, this is a song that I relate to specifically as an autistic person. It's about keeping your own space, being bemused at people's social expectations at you, and just generally has this "I'm out here doing my own thing" sort of energy. Like, this is a song to drop work entirely and do a deep dive into the history of trains to.
