If you barely know who he is, it means he's a good ref.
FACTS🙏🏽
Truth here.
Big facts
Seen him hundred times and Bruce says his name but I get ya
Amen
Did not recognize this guy although hes been right in front of my eyes many times...it means hes doing a hell of a good job being a referee.
kinda sad when you think about it, he's a top notch ref and basically gets no recognitions.

Be a warrior
Mark Smith doesn't get mentioned when u talk about who the top refs are. Very quality ref
Some of his stoppages are questionable
Mike Beltran is my favorite
You’re right he’s solid
Some are real overrated, looking at you herb dean
Joe, interview with Dr. Mike Mew, he discovered MEWING, it is a habit that makes you more attractive (at the bone level) in about 3 years, it consists of pushing the tongue against the palate to expand it and thus your jaw is marked, Your upper jaw is advanced (avoiding a flat face) and your chin is advanced (because with your tongue you direct facial growth forward). His channel is called ORTHOTROPICS, there is a video that explains more details about this called "attractive face or not"
UFC is lucky to have a referee like Mark. This guy's as sharp as they come.
I don't even watch UFC but I can hear the passion in his voice and can tell he cares about the fighters
Give the ufc a go man! I promise you won’t be let down
Oh you must be new here. Join the dark side, I did two years ago
STOP STOP STOP!!! It almost sounds like he is panicking, when he says that. But he is one fo the best refs in the game
* MMA lol watch it with some friends for the next card and have fun
If you do start to watch mma i will warn you certain people have some of the most toxic fanbases in the world. But im sure its like that in any sport
The familiar voice thing is a really thoughtful thing, makes complete sense.
He’s a hell of a ref, most refs would of jumped in prematurely when Tony was getting arm barred. Props to him.
Don't think so when their obviously waiting the time out. 2 minutes left? Probably.
I got knocked out once and I was convinced it did not happen, even with a split lip...
Same , sans the lip..
I felt a tap
i remember seeing an interview with a guy who was in a coma for 9 months, and when he woke up he was sure it had only been a day or so and he just couldn't remember the date, until he got home and saw the amount of money in his bank account was down over 100k
I knocked myself out skiing on a pair of Rossignols so I went to the chalet and drank the pain away.
I got knocked out one time i was out for like 2 min but it felt too long. Maybe cuz i got mugged

Tony is the type of guy who would rather break his arm than tap 💯
⚔️🕶-CSO-🇺🇸🏆🇲🇽
and there is absolutely nothing good about that.. dudes think letting something break or snap before tapping is being tough.. want to be a real tough guy? dont get caught in those submissions and if you do then work your way out of it..now those are the tough guys.. maybe tony knew it would be only some seconds until the round its over and went through.. if your in the 3minute in a armbar and dont tap your a bum and i hope your arm gets so bad fucked up that you can never fight in this sport again

I’ve never heard another ref mention specifically relieving pressure off of the sub at the end of a round. This king truly has the safety of the athletes in mind.
As someone who has suffered a few seizures in my life and subsequent blackouts, the nature of the way you come back around can be quite a traumatic and scary experience. To know that refs are allowing a familiar person to be present is so important. Could be huge in preventing unnecessary emotional trauma. Props to Mark.
might be different if you are voluntary expose ypurself o that kind of trauma, don't you think?
i know this is completely random but i hope you’re not suffering from them anymore, hope you’re doing well
Da Dongerlord that’s very kind, thanks! I’m doing well and hope you are too!
I can't even fathom " emotional " trauma from that lmao. And I've passed out, had a couple seizures. It's why I can't get medically cleared to fight cause they don't why they happen. It's like waking up from a bad dream. That's not traumatic rofl. They're fighters. They don't think like that. They're not looking for things to traumatized them. The average thing that would traumatized the average joe is a cakewalk to a trained fighter. I think people forget fourth percent plus of fighting is u don't get to the UFC unless you're mentally strong. Trauma wtf is even that. TBH
I remember that Silvia fight, snapped forearm and he didn't even feel it, mean while Herb Dead went "oh shit" and nearly had a heart attack getting in to stop the fight.
He did feel it. He just walked it off.
Did Brittney Palmer keep her cool? 👌
The Asian Viper Yeah he said he heard a pop but he was too tough to tap.
Because herb dean is a garbage ref and was daydreaming
@@276dirtyjoe How was he daydreaming? He stopped the fight at the right time meanwhile everyone else except Tim missed the break.

I love watching this guy ref he always has an intense look on his face like he really wants to make the right decisions lol
Great interview. This guy can ref ANY of my (imaginary) fights.
Mark Smith is hands down the best ref in MMA right now. I am not surprised he has been getting big matches lately.

Tony is my favorite fighter and it’s really sad to see him declining. It’s a combination of over training and age. Sad he never got a title shot let alone the belt he always deserved
He technically did get a title shot and became interim champ but was stripped due to injury. Which was bullshit because it happened right after the mcgregor dolly/bus incident. Mcgregor should have been stripped at that point but they wanted to make the Mcgregor khabib fight. Mcgregor knocked like 3 fights off a fight card with the dolly incident and they reward him with a title shot. Meanwhile stripping tony who only was injured for a short while. While they let rob whittaker stay the champ for 3 damn years and only fighting like twice in that time.

I barely ever notice this particular referee which is a testament to how well he does his job!
Thats the only time "El Cucuy" showed up against Oliverra.
Oliveira's jiu jitsu is legendary. I'm surprised Tony lasted 3 rounds grappling with him, 2 of those after his arm was hyperextended and useless. He pulled off some pretty impressive defensive positions, but he was outclassed for sure.

Even if you don’t watch the UFC you have to appreciate the genuine passion these dudes have for it
"I have the greatest seat in the world" I started cracking up imagining him pulling out a bag of popcorn while he refs
People drastically underestimate how hard it is to ref these fights. If you're a second early, you might ruin a fight/part of your career. A second late, someone could be permanently injured. A ton of discretion in their hands, shits gotta be stressful.
