I've said this many times before, its a miracle baseball doesn't have more fatalities. I believe the last one was a few years ago when a line drive struck a 1st base coach in the neck, rupturing his artery and killing him instantly.
That was Tulsa Drillers coach Mike Coolbaugh. It prompted a meeting where MLB general managers decided that all base coaches would wear helmets.
@@918Boyz3:03 😊
Agreed. Between that and just how incredibly difficult hitting is in general, it's a wonder how so many people still play baseball. I mean come on, it's a sport in which if you FAIL slightly less often than 7 times out of 10, you're a star hitter. That's crazy.
Poor man rip
Ouch that's sad, R.I.P
I like how Sim wasn't even in the batters box and he fell down 🤣🤣🤣

I love that Momentum turned Kentucky Ballistics with baseballs 🤣🤣🤣 Fun episode 😎

Next is 50 cal baseball vs human head
I think the only issue with the hand test was having up standing against the weight. Your hands would have room to get blown back from the impact, but with the weight it just takes all that pressure right in, increasing the damage
I was just thinking the same thing.. I think that's the only reason the thumb literally got ripped off. I would imagine that all of the other fractures would occur regardless though. Whether or not your hand has sufficient space to get blown backwards and absorb some of that energy from the moving ball, that's still a significant amount of energy that is going to transfer to and dissipate through the flesh and bones of your entire hand as soon as the ball makes contact with it. At 100 mph that's a shitload of energy.
@@comradesentournjr3696 If you're holding your bat, chances are that your hand will be stuck between the ball and the bat...
At a summer training camp in highschool (I was 15-16 I think?) I wore ~80 to the jaw. Luckily I was in the process of turning away from it, and no serious immediate injuries happened but I had all sorts of dental shift which required a ton of work over the course of years. Also for about 2 weeks after my neck muscles were SORE. Could barely turn my head. I simply cannot imagine the pain Giancarlo went through with a MUCH faster baseball. Terrifying.
Same thing happened to my oldest brother once
It's honestly astonishing the engineering behind modern helmets. The fact the helmet ate a 100mph fastball, and virtually nothing happened to the skull, it's nothing except impressive
Would be cool to see a ballistic gel head in the role of a pitcher taking a hit ball to the dome. At elite level exit velocity. Also you guys aren’t allowed near destin’s baseball shooting cannon. That went through a entire body
Had a dumb video idea, drywall strike zone battle. Each person has their own price that they have to protect and whoever has the most drywall left wins.
Tosh’s face after Eric’s dumbness 😂
Also have to account for the fact that you are hitting it with a kettlebell directly behind it a solid piece that that behind an object will always do substantially more damage.
Exactly what I was thinking. The hand and baseball have nowhere to go, so it's just going to be completely crushed by the ball as the kettlebell is offering significant support.
I got hit directly on the orbital in high school. I was throwing 91, dude squared it up perfectly. No clue how fast it was going but I remember waking up being drug off 😂 no broken bones or black eye, just lots of swelling. 10/10 would not recommend
Demolition Ranch, Momentum style. You guys should do more of this it’s entertaining as hell.
Seeing that ballistic head get hit reminds me on how my baseball career ended. I took a fast ball square to the face just bellow my nose when I was 9. I never stopped loving base ball and I always managed to still play softball after the accident.
Her: he’s prolly cheating on me Him: destroying pumpkins with balls💀
Would be interested to see a comebacker at like 115mph vs the padded pitcher hat
Took a liner to the face while pitching in high school which broke my orbital and maxilla, then several years later had to have excess bone removed from my mouth as it had begun to cauliflower. Needless to say this video made my gut tingle, but it was interesting to see what likely happened in such detail and at the moment of impact.
Hope you don't get a long term effect
@@itzveqz8744 It's been almost 30 years since it happened, and other than having a top plate/denture since I was 17, a twitchy eye that once it gets going will go nonstop for days, and a narrowed sinus cavity, everything turned out fine thankfully.

9:50 I just remembered that Andrew McCutchen wore a pitch by Aroldis Chapman(Cincinnati Chapman)
Damn he prolly felt so good after he did the “pumpkin bunted” joke. That joke killed with that audience!
Hahaha. LIFT SMALL BUNT THE BALL!

Love to see your guys chemistry. Like perfect pieces of jigsaw matched 300% Love your contents and you guys ❤
“it’s like my belly, it jiggles” ☠️☠️☠️
0:05 actually a crazy amount of good sportsmanship and genuine humanity in that clip. The moment the ball connected, you could see the pitcher was crushed, he felt so bad for hitting the batter in the head, and the catcher said fuck the ball and immediately went to the batter's aid. No one here wanted anyone to get hurt.
Momentum went straight up Dr. Garand Thumb here😂
Of course Sim would be the one to get hit by the pot 😂
You guys should watch Smarter Every Day channel, he did a supersonic baseball cannon :D
who said playing with baseball equipment isn't fun....even if it's not for baseball....great stuff guys!!
I was just about to get my 100mph pitching machine to do this at my house but after that warning I decided not to
The one guy who continues to yell the speed of the ball as if he’s surprised. It’s not like they set the machine to 100mph or anything
5:28 the faces 😂
This is one of those “ I bet he’s out cheating” moments
Best momentum Video yet!
You guys should buy a phantom camera! Like one of the cameras that the slow mo guys have!! Would be really cool to see how Trevors mechanics and Eric's hitting at 50,000 fps!!
The average force of a fastball while it is experiencing acceleration is 144.9J. Which is the same amount of energy as lifting a 21.4 lb weight 5 feet off the ground or lifting a 48.5 lb weight 1 foot off the ground. Instead of doing my English paper that's due at midnight, I'm going to calculate how much energy a fastball has. I was going to calculate how much kinetic energy there is once the ball reaches the pitcher but then I remembered I'm bad at physics. If any of you know how to do physics, the very last paragraph is my attempt to calculate that so feel free to correct me. For my measurements I'm going to use 100 mph (44.704 m/s) for velocity (v), 60 feet 6 inches (18.4404 m) for distance (d), for weight I used 5.1 oz (0.145 kg) for mass (m) I'm also ignoring air friction. The distance is the distance between the pitchers mound and the batter, and the weight is the average weight of a MLB baseball. Work (w), Kinetic energy (KE), Gravity ((g)=9.81m/s^2), Joules (J) W=1/2mv^2 so (0.5*0.145*44.704^2) is the work being done by the pitcher. Because of the work energy theorem we know that the initial kinetic energy of the ball is 144.9 Joules of energy which is the exact same as the work being done. For reference, a 22 lb weight moving at 11 mph has a kinetic energy of 125 Joules and a 22lr right after being shot has a kinetic energy of 162 Joules. Its also the same exact kinetic energy as lifting a 21.4 lb weight 5 feet off the ground (144.9/(1.524*9.81)). < used KE=mgh rearranged (KE/gh =m). W=Fd so I should divide 144.9J by 18.4404m to find force but that gives me 7.86 which I feel is wrong due to all of the accounts of ppl getting badly hurt by fastballs. Maybe I'm not using the right equation. F=ma to find acceleration I'm going to use a=(vf^2-vi^2)/2d. I got 54.19 m/s^2. Using F=ma, I found that the force was still 7.857. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong someone pls help. How do people break their bones from a fastball.
and the guy with the Pats hat is the knowledgeable one. and as a former athletic trainer, that would be an 'Oh *BLEEP*!' moment with the hand.
the tone of this video got serious with the hand. love it..good content.
GF: “He must be cheating on me!” BF:
you would have to reconduct this experiment because you have the hand sitting behind a dumbell....if you want to simulate this injury in a game you'd have to aim the ball at the hand with a bat in it where guys are most likely to get hit....like an inside pitch...see which bones it can break...but I live the pur destruction too!!! Kepp up the great content...we need you guys in the off season!
The guy getting hit by the baseball at 5 seconds (Kevin Pillar) is my favorite player and you guys should do a collab some time it prob won’t happen but just an idea because he is solid on the field but even more off of it
I loved this video idea and was laughing the whole time🤣🤣
The face tosh made was so good 👍 😩 😭
Took a line drive going probably 70mph to the face and it broke my maxillary bone. Thankfully that was the extent of it and didn't need surgery or anything, just a couple of months of rest and recovery. Taking 100mph would be ridiculous, don't know how big leaguers do it!
I was hitting as a righty and I was coming around to swing, I was facing a lefty who just threw a slider so I was sitting fastball but he threw another slider and I was coming around but held up my swing but as my face was turned to him I caught the slider with my right eye. It basically blinded me on my right eye and broke multiple bones in my face. I was a good college prospect but it sadly ended my career entirely. 😢
now that's how you carve a pumpkin
Her: “He’s probably cheating on me right now.” Him: *destroying random objects with 100mph fastballs with the boys
these guys when a kid trips and scrapes his knee "OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH"

Baseball bros carving pumpkins with baseballs should’ve been it’s own video in itself!
The family guy reference when Eric got hit with shrapnel was comedy lmao
I think we all subconsciously knew 100mph was dangerous, it's seeing how dangerous the 100mph actually is, is the part that's scary, Anyways, Eric would defiantly take 9 Fastballs to the Face before tapping out because he got hungry, that's my bet.
I've just started binge watching these guys... HOW Does Eric manage to get hit or hurt in every video 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I am actually making a container for a 3d printer. The drywall target made me triple it up the thickness.
the reason the hand breaks so easily is because the weight behind the hand. its like putting your hand against the wall and someone punching it, it will hurt more then someone hitting it without something behind it. the wall is pushing back and helping the force hit. take the weight away the hand will be able to swing and take the balls force.
Thats how you carve a pumpkin. Need a light for that on Halloween next year. Also Attach the hand to a bat and try it again. The hand is more flexible than having it sit against a 25 pound steel kettle bell.
It’s worth noting that ballistics gel has an inherent flaw. There are zero muscles and zero tendons. Dermal tissue and adipose tissue (that ballistic gel mimics) does not have the same tensile strength as muscles tendons and ligaments. While the finger did detach on the model, it would be very very unlikely for that to actually occur.
The fact Eric got folded without being at the plate from the potted plant is wild
Bro Eric sounded like a Jack-o-lantern after he put it up to his eye.
Her: He's probably cheating on me right now. Him w/ the boys: "Dude, let's shoot a baseball through a fucking pumpkin!"
I wonder what that machine can launch besides baseballs and tennis balls? Flashbangs, bricks, shaving cream, etc!
I just want to say I love you guys so much bro I wish I was better at baseball I quitting the sport I am playing now bc I want to play baseball
That is an amazing example! I could watch this over and over! Thank you for your content guys, love this channel!! ⚾️⚾️⚾️
This was quite educational.
Look at Kiev’s face as soon as they hit the drywall 😂😂😂
Eric sounded like Peter Griffin when he skinned his knee
During a baseball game I was up to bat and the pitcher was throwing 80mph and that 80mph fastball game right at my head but I some how dogged it.
Your cleaning service is gonna LOVE you after this one...
Welp now I know not to be scared of the ball😂😂😂
Bro Eric hit u with that Peter griffin
Playing little league I hit a ball to the short stop and ran to first the SS threw the ball and it skipped off the ground and hit me square in my eye right around my helmet, spent that night in the er and the next few days at the eye dr but I healed with no surgery luckily but it was close.. had pressure build up in my eye…
the peter griffin reference lol!
That pumpkin did the juko jiggle
I recently took an 85 mph fastball to the hand, and I can say.. that shit is not fun. Had to get two surgeries and I only just got back after 3 months. Can’t imagine what it would feel like to get hit right in the middle of the hand by a 100 MPH heater though 😅
we need a video where we see what speed pitches you can still bunt. as Kevin says, "lift small bunt the ball"
Loved this one
The sad thing is it would be possible for someone to get hit square on by 100mph if they turned there race at the pitcher. Kevin pillar is a good example.
I saw he hit to the temporal bone and immediately said: "yeah, he's dead"
Pitchers have gotten drilled on comebackers that are traveling over 100mph. It will definitely mess you up, but wouldn't say it's guaranteed to kill you.
I was in throwing lines in 2nd grade before practice and another kid a row over threw his ball off balance and smacked me straight in the eye. The ball was probably going 15 to 20 mph but it left a gash in my eye and my eye fora whole two weeks my eye was swollen like a couple inches more than a golf ball and my eye was shut. Now imagine if it was anywhere near 60, I would probably not have an eye right now. Baseball and Hockey are dangerous.
this is an excellent helmet commercial
Watched my buddy take a line drive to the back of the head on the mound. Cracked his skull
Like how HOW! Any time Eric is in a video SOMETHING is almost 100% guaranteed to hit him. Baseball, Shrapnel, wood from bats. I think Eric has discovered a new phenomenon. The Sim pull effect.
Imagine a MLB player gets mad and throws a rock at u
That's a sweet jack-o-lantern
Thank you for this education
This gives me PTSD. I took a foul tip off the thumb of a catcher's mitt. Broke and dislocated my thumb.
‘He’s probably cheating on me!’ Watches stuff explode
I would imagine these results aren't too far off, but our skin and muscles do a little better job with impact than the gel does IMO. The head shot though may be pretty accurate!
Women: men are so complicated Men:
When you give teenage boys a pitching machine and household items.
I had a friend who was a catcher in little league lose the tip of his finger blocking a probably 70 mph fastball, shits dangerous.
Your strength lacks When Juco breaks his bat. Still love you Juco
Wow! Great content
Eric turned into Peter griffin when he hurt his knee
I actually got hit with a 98mph comebacker to the side of my face right on the corner of my lips. Knocked out 2 teeth and left me scarred. Thank god every day I didn’t get hit an inch farther in any direction.
