There was a Chinese tea cup on display where the display next to it talked about the beautiful and detailed lettering of the words on the tea cup that dated back to, like 20 AD or something. Being Taiwanese, I could read the words on it. The lettering they were talking about? It reads "Made in Shanghai"...

    • That is because, Is someone with a degree in archaeology tell you, They don't hire knowledgeable people to actually running these museums or two work with the artifacts.. I tried to get jobs in museums in new york city and my local museum back where i come from. How is told dad if I wanted to be considered for position, I had to first serve an internship. Eight hours a day, Forty hours a week. For an entire year. At least. Then they might CONSIDER me for a job there. That is why all the people in these museums happen to be related to the big names in town. How many someone who already has money and some sort of familial placement can actually give them that much free time. That's the key part of the scam. All the money flows into the pockets of connected people

    • Depends if they're specifically looking for a corpse or happen to find one while looking for artifacts. Putting the act aside for a moment to ponder... 50 years after death, the grandchildren, and maybe children are still alive to be personally affected. 500 years and it's not even comprehensible. 100 years could have 3-4 generations. 500 you'd be 15-20 generations removed.

  • Aldough, with the stolen stuff, it's kinda tricky because that's how conquering a country works. You conquer a county; you take their treasures; you get conquered; they take your treasures. Always worked like that, always will. We just happened to be part of a giant empire that is conquering the whole world, similar to the Mongol Empire or the Roman Empire. Naturally, only until our empire gets conquered or falls apart, like every empire ever. And then new one will come. So those, not stolen, but won, treasures are just a display of power.

    @uw6de@uw6de9 күн бұрын
    • What's more is everyone did that to everyone regardless of there skin color, so calling it racist when white people did it to brown people is even more insulting to both parties because it blames the brown people for being weaker, while pretending that white people only did it out of hatred and instead kept the treasures safe because they were valuable and desired, you know, the opposite of what racism makes you feel towards something, that's why when a nation hates a other nation, they destroy there treasures they take

  • never understood how people thought going to a museum adds any value over just looking something up, its not like seeing it gives any more value over a picture of it since you're never interacting with it anyways but if they wanna blow money to do the same thing you can do on a computer then by all means have at it, the only reason i've gone to one in the past is to just do something with my gf at the time and aurora doesn't really have much going for it so figured why not

    • What, being able to see an item in person is very different, even if you ignore things like emotions, you just get a better view and take your time to appreciate them better, and then you have the actual benefits of mesuem staffing, you have a place where people can be experts on many very niche fields that anyone can ask questions to to help learn history in ways you can't without people cataloging and studying these artifacts out intrest for the objects
