  • I found it irritating that the commentators on Eurosport were bringing up the issue of Pogi winning too much. That he should just "let others win". 8 Stages and 6 different winners...what's their problem? There will still be more surprises in this Giro. And Pogi is aiming at 2 GTs as we all know, so "economy of effort" is important.

    @mister_ray@mister_ray11 күн бұрын
    • Agreed. I really wanted to talk about all what was being said up there today by Vaughters and Kelly. No way I’m sharing wins if you are trying to drop me for three weeks. And Vaughters mentioned something about Pogi staying around 10-15th position and how he has data on it saving energy (I bet he doesn’t;). I don’t believe that would, unless the leader can stay way back in the peloton when it’s at least 5 wide back there and a super steady pace . But today it was single file where Pogi stayed often at today. 🤔🦋👊

      @ChrisHornerCycling@ChrisHornerCycling11 күн бұрын
  • As always, thanks for the detailed analysis Chris! One query: 1. Pogacar is better sprinter compared to most of the GC favorites and so, if his goal was to win the stage and gain only a few seconds on GC rivals, why not just sprint for the line like he did multiple times in TDF 2020 against Jumbo Visma train and win stages with weak UAE team back then instead of UAE team riding at the front all day and not saving energy for the later stages. 2. Since Bardet and Nairo were 5+ mins down in GC, Bora and Ineos would have shared the duties/effort at the front of the peleton to control the break. This would allow UAE team to save the legs and then, start pacing Pogacar aggressively on the today's final climb. Pogacar could have gained more time on GC rivals that way by attacking 4-5km before the finish instead of sprinting and gaining mere few seconds. Considering Pogacar gained only few seconds against GC favorites, why do you think it was wise move by UAE to drive in the front of the peleton all day instead of aggressively setting up Pogacar on the final climb to gain more time on the rivals (though Pogacar may or may not win the stage). Thanks.

    @chintan055@chintan05511 күн бұрын
    • It was fine because the tempo wasn't too fast. They could work their rouleurs all stage and safe the climbers, so it didn't really hurt much to work the front. If the breakaway worked well, they'd have let the gap go out and then what you said comes into play.

If they could not tell from just Bjerg pulling and the gap dropping then you could tell from the break attacking each other. Also the riders seemed to be at the car often. Or simply by the fact that Valentine stayed out a very long time. Bardet, Steinhouser, and Storer hung on a very long time. Seemed simple to read. 🤔🤷🏼‍♂️👊🦋

Look at the difference in the general classification after one week! Only when you know nothing about the history of cycling you belief this and you are one of the great riders in this sport. There are really some super riders, Tadej, Remco, Wout, Mathieu and Jonas or again there is a new drug in town.

  • I'm not saying this is what is happening, but Pog. feeling good, the risk is that he scrapes a victory here a win there, and at the end he has overdone it and maybe looses the Tour de France with a handful of seconds. Far fetched, maybe, and you're not doing well without fun neither. Still i would prefer him to keep cool: it's a long, long road two big Tours behind each other. How many have done so? And it would be a pity if the last week in France he starts fading away. He already has shown what he has, please calm down Pog.!

  • I think Pogacar should not overdo it. The 2 times he lost the Tour de France, he also attacked relentlessly. He should have learned a lesson there.

    @thaidomain@thaidomain11 күн бұрын
    • He did. If he hadn’t learned a lesson there he would’ve probably attacked with some kms to go and gapped the other Gc riders with close to a minut. But he didnt, he saved some legs and won the stage -> win win

  • it's so weird to see people talk about all this as if it's real and legit racing, having ptsd of all the discussions around Armstrong before anyone had confirmed the obvious, I guess a few years down the road when this guy gets found out this will all be looked back on and laughed upon.

  • This Giro is ridiculous. Here, excluding Pog, the start list is weak. Can't wait for the Tour to see some real fight and competition like the several years. I hope that Jonas be in top shape but I really doubt it.

  • Tadej should not be covering all the attacks himself. Overall It’s a weak team. I expect a stacked UAE team fit the TDF.
