Shelby GT350R Owner Review - The Best Car No One Is Talking About Anymore
What's up everyone a happy late summer and today we feature our third Mustang Shelby GT350R review in our favorite Oxford White w/ Kona Blue stripes. A 3,600-mile never-tracked creampuff example. In this video, we'll explore the key differences between the regular GT350 and the GT350R, delve into the collectability, and take you on an honest POV drive through scenic backcountry Tennessee roads. This was filmed late summer before I left for Monterey Car Week, and it was a beautiful summer evening. The POV drive was filmed when I got back, the Monday after Labor Day weekend.
In this Mustang Shelby GT350R review, we hope you better understand this car's unique driving experience that just sets the Mustang Shelby GT350R apart. We think it will always be considered a true American muscle car, and one to aspire to in any collection. We'll also share insights on the market value, and investment potential of this modern classic.
With 526 horses and 429 ft. pounds of torque the 5.2 liter flat-plane crank hand-assembled Voodoo V8 engine is one incredible powerplant. Turn up the volume on the point-of-view drive and listen to that flat-plane crank V8 engine sing. The Tremec six-speed transmission is really good in this car too. While difficult to heel and toe the Shelby GT350R, overall it's a winning ad thrilling driving experience.
At the end, stay tuned or hit the chapter button as we update you on our exciting new custom detached garage project, tailor-made for housing this incredible Shelby GT350Rs. While we have a month left as of typing this, we look forward to making content in my small automotive sanctuary.

I drive mine almost every day and so do my friends with their GT350’s. As far as I’m concerned it’s one of the best cars ever made. Great video. Not too many cars can compare.
Same here. 2018 with 30k miles and 2 track days. Never one slip up. What a glorious machine.
Zl1 1le is better in every aspect
@@Yomammafatboiiii Except looks and performance.
@@scottsvt9104 bro what, the zl1 1le looks 10000x better then any sh1tstang, mustangs look like modified ford mondeos
Guys I’ve wanted one m, but fear of blown engines and oil burn has kept me away. Our my fears legit? Bad ass car. Thanks. I have lots of cars and can sell a few and buy and R. Cheers.
I've been at Flat Rock Assembly for 10 years, and the GT350 is still my favorite car that we built.
Yeah they are something.
Finally someone to thank for their contributions to one of the greatest machines ever created by mankind….. thank you sir I like to think Carrol Shelby grins from ear to ear about these cars
@thepapaj81 thank you for building my 2018 GT350
Keep the content coming. I have a shadow black 2018 GT350 was at 3k new and now at 38k now. I feel like even though the car is considered old now, it's still a great car today and will be for years to come.
Appreciate you watching and commenting! Have you had an issues with the Voodoo engine after 35k miles?
Great video! Your description of the visceral feel of driving your GT350R reminds me of how it feels for me to drive my '13 Boss 302 Laguna Seca. While the GT350R is a level (or two) beyond the Boss 302LS, the fun factor you're describing sounds very familiar. Someday, I'd love to have a GT350R in addition to the Boss.
Beautiful setup you have great taste and I agree with everything that you have stated 100%. I have the same car / color combination in this video which I daily and absolutely love it. Best car I have ever owned and I will never get rid of it. Subscribed! Keep up the good work brother 👊🏻
Hey thanks for checking out my content and for the comment and sub. Means a lot to me. We just posted a 1 of 1 Lamborghini Diablo you may find interesting. 👊
Excellent video review.✨💯 Thank you for sharing your insight. Love your GT-350R, it's the dream car that my wife has always wanted.
Appreciate the kind words Jonathan. Sounds like you sure married up 👊 Make that dream happen sooner than later - tomorrow is not guaranteed. Please subscribe and check out some of the other educational enthusiast reviews I’ve made over the years.
MACH1, Track Pack, 6spd, resonator delete steeda X pipe. Pretty much everything steeda makes for suspension bracing, camber plates (ford plates are kinda janky)…COYOTE 3-- send it… that cold start never gets old, and you CAN drive it everyday with out upchucking the crank.
just found this review. I appreciate your passion for your R. I got into the GT350 and 350Rs which convinced me to get my F-150 with the Coyote motor instead of the Ecoboosts. I also did a Raptor Steering wheel swap (yes i do paddle shift it everytime i drive it) because I came from a manual WRX. I would love to own either a 350 or 350R in the future and like I said, I really do appreciate and share your passion for them even if I don't own them yet because I too value a great driving experience.
All the best towards getting one. I think now is a fine time to get a great deal on one!
I'm glad no one is talking about it, maybe the price won't get more ridiculous. Very little is good about a car getting collector status, and this is one of my favorite cars.
GREAT INSIGHT! GONNA BUY ONE👍
Happy to help 👊Appreciate you watching and commenting. Happy New Year 🚀
I find the car trammels less with the steering setting to comfort. . . . . .
One of the best cars of all time that was forgotten about in the recent years. Considering a 350 as my next daily, life’s short and it is the best sounding v8 maybe ever? Regardless, Shelby beat Ferrari over 50 years ago for a reason, this is the result
A non-R with PS4 tires would make a decent daily. Can’t recommend an R for a daily though, but for a weekend warrior hard to beat for the money and future collectability.
After I bought my 2023 Mach 1 I bought Ford Performance hood struts because I agree with you, our cars costs to much not to come with them.
Awesome car! Best looking Mustang ever made! I have a fully loaded 2019 GT350 with the leather seats (preferred). Fix your driver A-pillar seal...it's bugging me. Hahaha. Great video and info. Thank you.
Solid 💯
Thank you for your honesty about that isn't easy to drive i bought a used with 7k miles i went for a drive with my wife and was embarrassed 😂😂 I'm a truck driver i drive manual all day but I'll have to put some driving hours on the 350 .
You know it’s funny, it’s a little challenge and makes me want to drive it more to get right. Muscle memory 🚀 Appreciate you watching please share with a friend and subscribe. New garage studio is almost online. We shot our first video last Friday (Ruby Star GT4), but the audio in here is not quite there, but I hope watchable.
my 19 R has 18k miles and has gone through 2 sets of cup2s already. picked her up new. best fun car outside of a stick shift gt3 or Stick shift ferrari (id imagine, i have not driven either) - this car has cheapish insurance too compared to those other options. you're right about the midrange torque being nice and just enough. max torque is 4,700 rpm btw. nice video
I owned a 997 Gt3 and now I have a gt350r. I have to say the gt350r is much more enjoyable to drive.
@@Brakelate879 Good to know!! :) makes me feel even better to go Gt350R.
I feel the standard gt350 (19-20) are the best deals on the market and the desirable of the years and models. If the R had more HP, then I could justify the increase, but don't think giving up the backseat and CF wheels make the premium.
Well the carbon wing, front splitter, Racaro buckets, and I think they tuned the chassis and suspension a bit but don’t quote me there.
@@Driven-Productions yeah, if you track maybe.. but these "creampuffs" sit in garages most of the time and too afraid to accumulate milage. Too good of a car to sit, so the standard GT350 owners see the most miles and enjoyment IMO
For those wheels alone it’s worth the 10k more. The 19 & 20’s are 60-65k and the R’s are 70-75k, there’s just less R’s so they will retain value much better.
That is a lot of coin against the improvement gains over the stock. I don't argue that R's will retain value (for collectors), but only if the miles are low. This all brings me to my original comment.. a non-R gt350 can be driven and enjoyed! I have 12k on mine and love it.
I want to buy this car, few years after graduation ! Besides my family, it is my core motivation haha !
Cars were always my motivation to work hard.
dont unless youre rich, buy a house first
@@alejandromunoz2853bought in 2019 with 12k miles for 46k it was a 2017. Now have 44k miles and it's worth 50k plus.
Hard to explain how great this car is, but everyone who drives one feels the same way about it.
The true power band is above 6k, but the gears are long for a reason. This car does great throughout the driveable range. But, avive 6k is agressive.
I am still debating about buying a gt350 or a zl1. I feel like for a person like me, who is not always going crazy fast all the time on the highway, The gt350 will be more fun to own. the zl1 is great but I feel like the 350 is special. one of a kind type of muscle car.
If you track. ZL1 1LE is better. But overall esp on street, give it to the Shelby
My daily driver, 350gt , intoxicating
Will the front splitter clear a speedbump?
That depends how aggressive the speed bump is…
@@Driven-Productions Thank you for your quick reply. I don't know the height, but if I had to guess...4" - 5" in height. I'm asking because I want to buy a 350R, but my community has speed bumps. I don't want to scratch the splitter or worst break the splitter.
@@thejarfoundation7162 I would avoid this car then, better buying a regular 350. Suspension is stiff, gonna beat you up on each pump.
@@Driven-Productions In addition, my neighbor has an Aventador. I know it's a different car. But his car clears the speed bumps fine. Without using front airlift.
@@Driven-Productions thank you for your feedback and advice! I only want the R because of the resale value. I believe it holds its resale valuce more than the 350.
Those side splitters are standard on all GT350’s not just R’s🤦🏻♂️
Shelby gt 350 is one the best if not the best sounding v8 I have ever heard and I have owned a gto and a mustang gt and they sounded great...gt 350 is in a league of it's own. Beautiful car and wicked sounding, I love that car ! Awesome video too.
Thank you for taking time to watch and comment David. It’s much appreciated 👊
I've got almost 69K on mine, daily driven. I'll probably ease up to keep from wearing it out, but honestly I hate driving everything else, lol.
Wow well done. No major issues yet ha? See there you go and many are nervous of these engines.
Nah that would be the 5th Gen Z/28 Camaro. Still has a faster LL than all of the newer cars in its class. And that lap was on a deteriorating track surface. Which was repaved (all VIR courses) for most of these new cars' lap times.
I forgot they even made that car, it was wild.
I want one so bad and I found one, the only thing holding be back is that I live in an apartment building
It can be street parked😊
My biggest complaint with a GT350 is the steering wheel, it’s too skinny for my hands
Funny I found it a bit too fat for mine. Actually became uncomfortable on longer spirited drives.
Give you an idea the car will go 55 mph in first gear. And second gear is 93 mph so no you will be going 30 over in second gear even on the highway. Also on the highway if the speed limit is 55 you will get 25 to 28 mpg
I promise you, this does not have the standard mustang hood as you said lol
Just weight wise it’s disappointing quite heavy.
I heard that the engines in those cars are having issues, see Women Driven as her engine blew up.
Curious if it was low on oil.
I know that she pushes all of her cars to the limit, but there is an issue with those engines in those cars@@Driven-Productions
@@mrrandy1 she had no oil dude
The reason no one talks about it any more is was 25 recalls....burning oil bad rings ,bad blocks scoring, bad oil lines fires, bad filters fires and wrecks, bad cranks scored bearings, bad door latches does open ...body parts only fix the 350 expensiveto repair...front splitter too low...and on and on problems that cost too much !
Says the civic owner
@@metroplex3k No I have a Mach 1 and a GT5.0 just tired of Ford charging alot cof money for car
The only people who should buy the R is a collector. If you're racing, it makes more sense to start off with the regular GT350.
I mostly agree with you especially if you plan to drive it on a daily or even weekly basis. But, you're talking about collectability, the GT350R is far more rare and desirable. It will always demand a premium, esp in 20-30 years when these are considered the best of breed of the Gen 2 Mustang 350s.
Why do people always think this way? The car was built specifically to be driven on the track and very hard! People with this thought process are part of the problem.
You can't drive these hard, they blow up!!! This bad boy will be regulated to collector status and we will never see another voodoo type motor ever again.
@@jhempsrt4 then you don’t know much about these cars. Properly warmed up and proper maintenance and these are very reliable.
@@michaelschultz1104 Tell that to the plethora of owners and former owners who have blown engines.
If you're going to revieif you're going to review the car. Review the 19 or 2020. It has the latest and greatest features and tech for that car.
Thanks for watching and commenting. So on my channel we reviewed both the 2020 350R Heritage and 2019 350R. Check out Save the Manuals playlist.
The 2020 is a lot more expensive due to upgrades, engineering, that are exclusive to that year and build numbers. I own one with only 5300 miles. Cup 2s don't work well with Florida rain.
have a black 2017 gt350 R....love it im a car guy have a lambo also....but the shelby is the best .....went for the R so much money and value in the wheels and tail alone
Appreciate you watching and commenting 👊Which Lambo you got?
Gallardo SE@@Driven-Productions
Too many warranty issues with Ford, lack of attention by Ford, on that sweeeeet sounding and performing engine.
Naw, people still talk about them. But when used prices went drastically above what their MSRP was, then people are going to stop caring and pass up on it. The market is coming down finally, but it never should have gone up in the first place. GT350R’s that were selling for $90k, are now selling for mid-$60k’s, and continue to drop week after week. This is finally becoming a good value car. $50k’s are where they should realistically be right now.
just shifting at 6 lol
Right 😂
You're going to tramline, feel every little bump, tear off the front splitter, change tires every 5,000 miles and pay $5k each for a destroyed wheel when you hit a pothole. No thanks
For some reason the new Mustangs after 1970 don't do anything for me. I mean power isn't everything. I like my car to look like I could sit on the grass and never take my eyes off them, like the 1967 fastback or 69 fastback. These newer Mustangs just don't have it. They don't even have the fastback look .
Appreciate the thoughts. Funny it’s the reverse for me, but at 37 currently I may be a different generation. Grant you, a 67 GT500 or 350 is 👌
@@Driven-Productions .... Right , it's a generation thing. My cus had a red (1967 think) fastback 2+2 with a white interior when I was a kid, that was so cool looking. At 16 I guy had a black 1969 428 CJ that was sweet . These cars were so cool, too bad the cost is over the moon.
I think what you were trying to say at 15:30 is. The concept is your car should be worn like a suit. Guys are trading in big body for little everyday for that reason. Its not a nashville metropolitan. Lol
It'd be great if they didn't cost like 80 grand and have terrible reliability
Think $80k is too much ha? What you paying for the right R?
@@Driven-Productions if 80 grand isn't too much, I'd gladly take 80 grand from you for free? deal?
@@user-nj8lu8ld9e I’m serious, what do you think the right R is worth? $65k? MSRP was I think $70k on this one. 19 and 20’s they were high 70’s
@@Driven-Productions talk is cheap. Cash in my hands.
@@user-nj8lu8ld9e 😒
Best car despite the somewhat excessive aero which is not needed but hey its cool car keep it. The new gen mustang is extremely ugly especially interior all of the heritage is went out of windows 🤡
This car is great but slow below 4k RPM.
Appreciate you watching and sharing.
@@Driven-Productions Like you said not enough road to rev it out. But once you hit a back road with no traffic it's so good. I'm on my second one. I got a new 2020 GT350 then sold it to get a used 2018 GT350R.
CenterLock wheels ?? with black painted lug nuts ?? You're the wierd one. All black wheels with black lug nuts is like looking at a black hole out in space. I for one am extremely happy with those shiny lug nuts and NO "CenterLock" wheels. Ford did the right thing.
They are already pretty cheap.. low on power, heavy, I suppose get one now since they are cheap and pretty much irrelevant these days.
Says the civic owner.
Like any mustang 🐎 with these amazing 5 liter V8's the GT350 will eat supercharged Corvette's alive with a few simple mods and a Lund racing tune.
I said it from the beginning, those peoples who purchased these shelby's then sold them fast will be kicking themselves in the head in the future. they will sell for near millions if not simply millions. it wont be about speed as EV will be a far greater rush in terms of speed, but EV's dont have souls. they are not living machines as is a combustion engine vehicle. the vibration the sounds the connection between the driver and the machine. EV's for all their greatness loose a ton of that connection. Even many supercars dont have it. as their engineering dials out the personallity of the vehicle which actually comes by a lack of perfection.
80% of all GT350s were purchased as collectibles or investments. Pathetic. No wonder the owners are snobs always trying to protect their investments.
Says the civic owner
@@metroplex3k Stop projecting.
Why do some have red roll cages and some don’t? Some have the red R on the side and some don’t. Strange….
Cage is installed aftermarket, not a factory option. R badge on side is also aftermarket. Mine is 100% stock
