Watch that muzzle!
By the way, this old airsoft gun has been around for about 10 years, and it's been at least that long since we've had any "ammo" for it. If you think it fired a pellet when I snapped the trigger, sorry, you're just seeing things. I think a bug flew by, actually. :-) I don't think I've even see the magazine for it in years.

  • I love the shot at around 10:25, LOL. Camera pans down and you suddenly realize he's not standing on gravel and dirt, but a literal sea of brass! Love it! Now, joking aside, when my cousin and I were single digit age, our paternal grandfather was giving us some gun safety and target shooting lessons. When he felt we were ready, he let us shoot his little snub nose .22 revolver. He was also allowing us to cock the pistol after some time. My cousin, imitating something he "saw" (more likely thought he saw) in a James Bond film, proceeds to bring the pistol back towards his chest, point the barrel pretty much under his chin, cocked the revolver, then essentially reversed the procedure in dramatic fashion. I thought Pa was going to die right then and there. Needless to say, once the heart attack subsided, there were many more safety talks and lessons before shooting was again allowed. That scene is etched into my mind and I'm 45 now. I've never saw my grandfather looked more panicked than he did in that brief moment.

  • This video is perfect! I wish I had known about it the last time I went to the shooting range. There was a mom with her son shooting handguns alone at a range with no range officer. My girlfriend and I brought our gear up from the parking lot and took the bench closest to them. Immediately upon sitting down, this woman had (hopefully) emptied the magazine and was inspecting her gun and flagged me multiple times. I told my girlfriend quietly that they were being irresponsible and that we should move to a different seat. About 30 minutes later this woman and her son were getting ready to leave and they were taking pictures of each other. I was appalled. This woman pointed the gun at her son, at her head, under her chin etc. I yelled at the two from across the range to keep their guns pointed downrange. This woman said, "ohh dont worry, its not loaded." i snapped back saying it really doesn't matter if she thinks its unloaded. In hindsight I should have tried explaining things and pointing them towards resources like this. later that same day, someone went downrange without properly calling a ceasefire. I noticed this and put my gun down immediately. Luckily he wasn't hurt. My girlfriend told me he called a wimpy ceasefire that nobody else heard except for her. Needless to say, I'm a huge fan of staffed ranges since they tend to adhere to strict safety rules. Thank god for hickok45 and his passion for making videos. Ill definitely share this next time I see someone with bad muzzle discipline.

      @bunk95@bunk955 ай бұрын
    • @98chevys10ls sorry to burst your bubble, but it's impossible not to flag someone at some point and some scenarios it's impossible to avoid being flagged. For example, a lot of gun stores have EVERY pistol in the case, pointing right at the customer's. They take it out of the case and it literally HAS to be in their hand, pointed at a person. When you have a gun in a gun case and are walking around, it will always be flagging someone or something. Buying a gun from a gun shop and walking out the door flagging people is to be expected, as unfortunate as that is.

      @JTheraos@JTheraos4 ай бұрын
    • @JTheraos I'm not sure you understood the picture my comment tried to paint. The story Isn't about the reality that sometimes an unloaded muzzle gets pointed at you. The story was about a neglectful parent pointing a firearm at her son and herself. This is a very avoidable scenario that responsible gun owners never sees themselves in; especially on a shooting range with live ammo.

  • During my concealed carry class we were on a very simple range- all lined up toward our targets with a hill as a back-stop. The woman next to me on the line would muzzle me EVERY time she turned her Ruger LCR sideways to empty the cylinder. I have one, I understand why (the button is in an odd position and to get the right angle on the button, it is easier to turn it sideways so you can push it straight with your thumb). Both her and her husband reacted to me like I was a prick when I asked her politely to mind her barrel when reloading. And seriously, all I said was "Hey, could you please make sure your barrel is pointed downrange when you reload?" She said she was only doing it while reloading, so it was safe... I said "No, it is never safe to point a weapon, loaded or not towards someone else." Her husband started telling me to "mind my own business" blah, blah, blah. So, I expressed my concern to the instructor. And of course, she doesn't do it while he was watching. I stood back and let her finish shooting before returning to the line. Now the whole class is looking at me like I'm some kinda prick or range snob. I didn't care. My brains staying in my skull mattered more to me than people thinking I was a douche.

And I am very glad you need a permit and full background-check in my country to legally own one. I believe in and exercise my right to own guns and do so responsibly. fully aware of statistics on the likelihood of Of firearms protecting families versus the other possibility of harming a member through irresponsible practices of poor ownership practices. I just think people need to consider the other major contributors that harm people As much or more than guns. Yet we still feed the idea of the joys of alcohol to kids through advertising the way they did with cigarettes years ago. Then we have the gaming that glorifies killing people. Some parents let their kids play the days away on the games and wonder why their kids are the way they are.

    • Ben Jamin I understand, I also can imagine the risk of experiencing an armed robbery in your lifetime is a lot bigger in the US than in The Netherlands. I gotta disagree with you that gaming has any influence on violence. Almost every one I know grew up with first-person shooters and these things never happen over here. Next to that the youth over here has pretty much 0 interest in guns, be it for sports or be it for collection, besides those in videogames. It’s a fact that you can easily buy an AK on the black market anywhere, but it would seem logical to me that the idea of guns being accepted and available has a greater influence on these incidents than the actual availability of firearms. There is a digital aspect which I believe to be of influence on these kids, and thats certain forums and online communities. There’s some really dark stuff on some forums which could easily make a young soul lose it’s sense for morale. People on those forums write manifests and articles to an extreme level beyond imagination. I’m afraid that there’s no simple solution to this problem in the US, as you stated you simply need it to be able to provide your family with safety at all times and in any case. Which is very understandable.

Always mention Hickok 45 a master in safety and handling firearms. Prior I was using the laser swiping, but at my83 yrs I just loved the dowel in the barrel technique. Amazing I’m going incorporate this method at our pre instruction as usual prior always going to the range. Repetition , repetition,repetition, as my military police training in 1950. Tongue in cheek if you don’t hit the bullseye know when that bullet hits in the safe zone. I’m honored when the range officer comes up to my grandson and states the training he’s given in range safety is a reflection. Mr Hickok never too old for an old dog to lean new tricks. I am not trained beyond my own common sense but the beginning of this video was making my alarms go off like crazy, yet if i heard cease fire i would instantly take my finger off trigger and keep it pointing right were it was (maybe a tiny bit lower) while i looked at the situation then bring it in after i understand whats going on.

I've always been into guns and recently I met someone who also shared my love for guns, but he was much older and smarter. Almost immediately after he handed me his AR-15 to check out he was criticizing me on flagging him... honestly I was so embarrassed because I thought I knew what I was doing only to realize I didn't. He thankfully didn't ruin the experience by constantly correcting me because he knew I was young and excited, plus we had both DILIGENTLY checked the mags and chambers of all the guns he was showing so there was a very low chance of someone accidentally shooting, but he made sure to let me know that he would personally never shoot with me until I got my shit together. This video really helped me realize my issues and I'm hoping they cease to exist with proper attentiveness and diligence. Thanks again!

  • When I was a 10 year old kid in the '60s, my dad was rangemaster at Ft. Jackson. He'd take me with him in summer and that's where I learned a lot about firearms. One thing I recall from training manuals I'd read while in the tower with him was that there is an invisible, indefinite plane perpendicular to the end of the muzzle, and that plane is the no-go point. Anything crossing that plane while handling the weapon is in danger of being shot. A bit extreme and perhaps overly cautious, but recoil -and surprise - affecting placement of the subsequent shot after the first accidental discharge with a semi or automatic weapon could be anywhere across that plane. A lesson I passed on to my kids.

  • I look at "unloaded" guns like Schrodinger's Cat. Until that chamber is opened and I can see inside, then it's uncertain whether or not the gun is loaded. Only when the chamber is open, empty, and the clip/magazine is out of the weapon do I believe that it is unloaded. As soon as the chamber closes, the gun is uncertain again, and I have to assume for safety purposes that the gun is loaded. Helps keep me on my toes, for some reason. Probably one of the four things I learned in High School that I'll ever think about again.

If the gun is always loaded, they're always *more* cautious than if it were 'unloaded' (even if it's still not cautious *enough,* its still more cautious and i find brings fewer accidents. My army buddies all agree with me aswell, misfires always happen when people _believe_ the gun is unloaded and get careless.)

A tradition that originated from old Prussia with the intention to give the reservists regular practise) are a thing and therefore air rifles with small calibers are a thing there, but that takes place mostly in rural areas. If you are in the city you most likely see a gun for the first time if you meet a cop and then it's still holstered. To see MPs you have to visit Berlin because the guards in front of the embassies use them and ARs or bigger you simply don't want to see because that would mean there is some terrorist attack going on or the country gets invaded 😅 The first time I saw a real gun was when we made a school trip to a police school. Still own a cartridge case from the trip they gave out. Of course we weren't allowed to shoot.

  • I am a little new to firearms and I just got my first one, just a glock 43. On one of my first shooting range sessions, My friend had a revolver that worked differently. When he loaded it for me I was confused because the trigger was further back than what I was used to and I pressed it once but stopped when I got confused (heavier and shorter trigger pull than my gun) and when I went to the trigger again I completely expected it to just dry fire or not fully click or something, but I fired the gun. I ended up hitting my target down range with that negligent shot because I aimed at my target anyways even without expecting it to actually fire, and overall I had always been taught that even if you are trying to figure out anything on the gun including a jam, it should be pointed down range. No exceptions. That was just my inexperience with revolvers but the videos I watched and the people who taught me how to shoot, taught me the safety before ever letting me use their guns and now I practice that with my gun and every single one handle. Thank you so much for these useful videos, has kept me safe.

  • Several years ago, I took a handgun lesson from an instructor who regularly taught at the indoor range in my town. He arranged to have my lesson after closing hours so we could move about in front of the shooting booths vs having to remain in the small booth. All went well and he gave me some tips that improved my shooting. At the end of the lesson however, he said he wanted to practice a bit on his own with movement and shooting. I stood behind him (up-range from the targets) while he did the most bizarre exercise I had ever seen. He pulled his arms to his chest, muzzle of his pistol pointed up--and right at his chin--and maneuvered about the range. When ready he would extend the pistol to a shooting position and fire, then return to his odd "ready" position. When he was done, I asked if it didn't make him nervous pointing a loaded gun at his head? His answer was that it was ok since his finger wasn't on the trigger and the gun wouldn't go off by itself. I believe he saw it as some kind of "tactical" move and shoot scenario, like maybe he would use to clear a house. I wondered, but didn't ask, what would happen if the imaginary bad guy made a surprise grab at his pistol when it was in that position. Even though I had enjoyed and benefitted from his lesson, I never took another. His behavior was just too out of line from the approach I have practiced during a lifetime of gun handling that started when I was 12 and continued through a career in the Army. Thanks for this video. I'm going to make sure my friends who are beginning to be interested in shooting view it!
