This is a surprisingly easy DIY project, that you might be able to make for free if you have some epoxy left over from an old project. I took some old cedar fence panels, burned them with propane torch, then covered with epoxy. What I got was a pretty cool 3D wood and epoxy coaster unlike any I had seen before. Hope you like it, let me know if you have any questions!

1:44 you left a control subject and proved the need for bubble popping. Very scientific. 4:20 We watch these because you talk fast. So many crafters make us watch extended/repetitive actions while droning on. This was a perfect execution and I want these coasters!
😂😂 so true. Nailed it!
This is a valuable addition to my woodwork collection kzhead.infoUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO I still will rate this woodwork plan as the best in my reference library. It always seem to stand out from the rest whenever you go through the library. This is a masterpiece.
DUDE! Those would make fantastic wall tiles! Maybe not for a shower but for smaller areas like back splashes or other decorative applications in a black color scheme. That depth of finish is awesome!
I was thinking these would be nice for a camper conversion I'm working on but might take too much time.
One thing that might be neat is after you do the first epoxy pour... Going back with a cnc router and v bit and engraving some design and doing a different colored epoxy inlay and then sanding smooth and sealing with the epoxy top coat

Very nice! Finally a smaller project I can dip my hands into. I've been wanting to make an epoxy table but seems like such an undertaking. This I could at least get the feel for working with epoxy without spending a lot.
My thought exactly
exactly what I thought :)
A next step might be to make small shelf using a knotty/cracked/knackered piece of hard wood (I used left over/rotting oak planks) - you can practice sealing the knots/cracks, then filling with small amounts of epoxy (coloured if you want), then flattening/sanding/finishing. If you have some big cracks you can double up and practice a few bowties as well :) - kzhead.info/sun/nbySndyvm31vkmw/bejne.html
I love that burnt wood effect, the table is stunning too. An accent wall tiled in that would be cool!
Honestly the one with the smudge has the best burn lines, this will be my first epoxy project start with coasters and move up. Thanks for all your videos
I found your video interesting and rather complete in the amount of information given on how to do the hentire job. Thank you and don't stop the videos, can't wait for the table you mentioned. Cheers
Ficou perfeito muito lindo parabéns
Ice tea is my favorite, I was gonna mention trying a table like that and I seen you're already on it. Awesome can't wait to see.
Thanks Jason! And it’s coming
LOL
Peach Bellini Cocktail - I love your coasters! Clear, shiny & shows off the pattern beneath. Your so brave using fire, then covering it with epoxy. Never seen that done without removing all the excess prior to epoxy. Most say it can't be done, yet you did it. Amazing & thank you for sharing 💜
I live in an RV, ( travelling Australia) so just watch… and chill… this is one of my favourite pieces, loved the random finish…. Awesome..
Have you ever thought of painting reds and oranges in some of the charred recesses to make the appearance of burning embers? It is something I would like to try eventually.
I was thinking the same thing. That would be really cool looking. No pun intended. 😉
Had the same thought just before i saw your comment, i'd be really cool if done right!
@@graywoulf there was no pun in the first place bud
It would be very interesting to know and see the results if anyone has done this, please share if so
Or you could do it with orange fluoroscent resin and have UV light on top oh it?
Lemonade: Great background for a logo to go right in the middle! Love it
Thanks buddy!
Thank you for this amazing idea. Looks amazing. Great Job once again. LOVE IT
I have many woodworking tools- but in a small shed that doesn’t give very much room to move around- but I am about to figure it out- these videos are very inspiring and you make beautiful pieces!
Monster (energy) I love the charred wood look. I do a bunch of lichtenberg figures in wood. Custom frames, walking sticks, basically anything wood that I work with that doesn't have to be immaculate.
“Dead Guy”, I watched the entire Video... an SUBSCRIBED!! See you on the next one. Amazing Job!!
Those are so cool!!!! I love how they turned out...you did an awesome job.
Natural light on that finish looks great.
Man these would look great as backsplash for a sink area on a bar in your house. Or even in the kitchen it would look so cool as a backsplash.
I came to comment this
Lol, I just had the same comment
I’m surprised you didn’t add felt or cork to the bottom! I might like to see them partially sanded too, for another look of the wood charring. Another thought would be to add some mica to that sealing coat!
Love your work, you are the epoxy king!! I'm getting into wood working after watching your channel. Might pick your brain on the epoxy side of things. Keep up the good work! All the way from South Africa!! 🇿🇦
Testing out four of them! Just sealed them up. Gonna try to use a router jig like you said. But thank you for all the great videos I’m a beginner and I’ve learned a lot from your Channel
You made that look so easy, they turned out great! Didn't see a smudge.
Thanks Pete!
I was like, "Sweet, time to see the tabl- this was posted a week ago, gotta wait." Rogue Dead Guy for the win. Subbed.
Boom.
Can’t wait to see the table video as well. After doing Shou sugi ban epoxy projects on a small scale myself I’ve wanted to see how someone might do it on a larger scale. There are a few snags I can imagine.
You’re a good professor, I like V-8. In a very short time You convinced me I need a shaper origin, a must have as a professional woodworker.
Irish Death beer would look great on those coasters! Excellent & detailed description of how to do these coasters, Cam! Keep the videos coming
The tears of my childhood bully. How about charring the wood of a river table? Char wood Seal charred wood Pour river Pour an additional 1/2 inch over everything I think the shou sugi ban would look great with a grey-pearlescent river. 😯
I like it Ted!
That would be dope, but if you really got ambitious, you could create enough to make a backsplash!
Not a huge river table fan anymore, but the favorite drink had me rolling lol. Reminded me of the chili con carnival episode of south park.
“The tears of my childhood bully”!🤣
Chess board with chard and chard with red dye resin or a cribbage board
Excellent idea
Epic
Love this idea 💡 ❤️❤️
2500$ plus tax and shipping. I can do it for you.
$2000 and free shipping. I can do it for you.
Monster loco-first time watching. I want to make a coaster for my dad for his birthday. This will be my second tjme woodworking ever, but my first project was about just as difficult and I managed it pretty well. This video is super enlightening. I really enjoyed watching it
ginger ale - Great idea. I don't need coasters, but I'm definitely going to use it for something. 👍
Wow! That would be perfect for backsplash tiles :)
Good call!
Oh that’s a great idea!
Great idea! Ice Water
Yea back splash
Actually, think again- the high gloss black would show mineral deposits.
IPA. love the Coasters! You definetly just put a burned wood project on my todo list 🤣
Nice!
Omg amaaaaazing 😍 The beauty of the depth made me speechless 😍💓 Thank you so much for sharing this piece of art🥰
Oh thanks!
You are polite and very expressive. I like how you work.. one day I would like to do a small project. For now I am learning from you a lot. Impressive work,Sir..
Lemonade (made with ACV instead of lemons): Why didn't you sand the sides for a nice smooth all around finish? And some gold flecks would be nice with this
try switchel, apple cider vinegar water ginger brown sugar
@@ManBearPigLOL have you ever drank wassle????
@@yongyea4147 yep very good stuff
This would look awesome done on full plywood sheets for countertops or wall coverings
You should see my live edge counter burnt and expoyesd with a glittery comet across one face
Absolutely stunning, you've totally gave me the bug to give it a go , just need a bandsaw to finish lol , welldone 💪👌
Love this fella. Love the visual texture of the charred wood (ok, lumber to you) and super smooth glass finish. More please.
Delaware Mixology.
Dr.Pepper: Dang it... Now I want my whole computer Desk to be like this......and maybe some shelves.
I want to do more too!
I've actually done this to a side of a bed frame I made out of 2x12, I used too much micro pearl in mine so you can barely see the burn.
I just finished doing an entire wall of rectangle tiles like this for a bathroom. It turned out super cool.
@@UbiDoobyBanooby pic?
robert smith msu bully kennel aliendawgs bloodline not sure how to post a pic but I could upload a video I took maybe. I’ll let you know if I do.
Arizona Greed tea, I'd love to see how a Desk with a top like this would look
I hope to make one!
I second this^
I’ve been considering this as well after doing a bunch of tiles like this for a bathroom wall for a client. It looks amazing.
THIS IS CREATIVITY. I LOVED IT
Thanks Cam you've just inspired my next mini project, keep up the awesome work. I'll post on insta when they are done 😁😁
These look like a fun project. The hardest part for me would be getting my guests to use them! Maybe I need better guests, LOL. Coffee
I feel the same!
Oh you mean because they're savages that wouldn't use coasters... I guess I'd be in the same boat. 🤔
Just keep the torch close and when they attempt to put their cup/glass on the table instead of coaster get the torch out. Wanna bet it will work??
@@BlacktailStudio has
Coffee doesn't require a coaster but this video requires a "like" :)
Coffeeee! Really enjoyed this one... might be the project that finally pushes me into epoxy work for the first time!
Stout looking coasters. Very cool use of scrap, Cam. Thanks
I did it with the Woodglut plans.
Rum: should I try make a guitar with this idea?
You should
Absolutely!
Phin Hayes that would be super mettle! I love it!
I already did! Rub mica pigment or glow in the dark pigment into the cracks before the poxy pour. Have a look on instagram XTN Guitars.
Hell yea
Okay, this as a k I've handle will be great. Gonna try it sometime!
Love a nice strong well hopped IPA. As for the coasters: Beautiful, very cool.
Oddly, Oreo Smoothies is my favorite drink.
First one to say that!
5 minutes wasn't that hard even for someone with ADD 😂 great project! It looks great
You are very detailed in your description and explaination and that is why I subscribed. My favourite beverage is any Blackcurrant beverage drink plus the result from those wood blocks were superb.
Great idea! I think I'll use this finish on my next set of speaker boxes.
I got to admit that finger got really close to that blade. Haha might want to be careful there mate. Apart from that these things came out amazing
Coffee with turmeric and coconut oil
Milk, I love this! I am definitely going to be doing this in January Thanks xoxo Sandy
So awesome I plan on making my own wood projects like this
This would look amazing if done on a guitar.
Totally would
Really digging 312 from Goose Island right now. Dead Guy ale is also super good and I completely forgot about it. Absolutely in love with how you are so succinct yet still give enough extra details and suggestions as you talk. Dont apologize for how fast you go! Thats's what the pause button is for haha.
I think they look fabulous. Would love to see a table done like this or a bookcase.
Coffee. I also loved the charred table. I could see these being used as decorative tiles on the wall behind an old wood stove or even the wall of a kitchen countertop (perhaps in the kitchen of a stylish restaurant).
Around a wood stove, you could selectively use orange, yellow, and maybe white metallic paint over the char...then clear coat. For a 3d sort of burning embers effect. It would look like the stove had, and was in process of...burning a hole in the wall behind it lol. I know they have high heat resins...but I don't know how clear they pour.
DEFINITELY nice coasters, never done epoxy, but going too give it a try
Always a cuppa tea - coasters came out amazing
Water on ice! And I'd love to have coasters like these! They look wonderful.
I really like the idea for a table top made with the "Japanenese shou sugi ban" technic and its got me thinking about a new computer desk top I need to make. Thanks for the video.
Strongbow cider ,, I used 2 part epoxy at work we used to degass it with a powerful vacuum pump and chamber.. then pour and we had very few bubbles. I like your work, I am recently retired and have taken up wood turning as a hobby, I use a vacuum chamber to help quick dry out the wood prior to turning. I am going to try a flame finish on a bowl next time. Cheers and keep up the good work stay safe.
Great idea man. You just gave me a new idea for wall tiles or whatnot in the bathroom.
Mind blown, already a fan. That’s was amazing
Thanks!
Crown Royal....That being said...I love your videos so much ...everything you create is absolutely beautiful...thanks for the education and entertainment...keep it coming...
Loved the burnt coasters.
Great video I'm making some so for so good. I need to work on getting the epoxy down the sides. Great gift for a man cave

Water! I love the coasters. Excellent presentation and I don’t mind the fast talk. It tells me your getting down to business.
Hey Whistle Pig Piggy Back - thanks for putting up all the videos that you do. Some of your projects are absolutely amazing and inspiring.
Whiskey, looks like a fun project, being a firefighter you just gave me a great idea for a homemade gift for fellow firefighters.
This is my first exposure to your channel and I gotta say, I love the fact that you talk fast! You’re the channel I’ve been looking for! I usually need just a quick refresher on a technique, or want to know how other people tackle the problem of X when Y comes up, etc, but MOST craft/woodworking videos are made like they’re presenting for television. They breakdown what’s going to happen (instead of, idk, just *starting* ), repeat themselves and the steps they did, take tons of breaks away from the action just to give themselves screen time and act as a “host,” or generally take way too long to just get to the point. I love the fact that you show one thing while talking about another thing and trust your audience to follow along. At the very least you seem to be aware that we all use the “rewind 10 sec” button a lot, which means there’s no need to dwell on anything for a long time. Just leave it on screen long enough for us to catch it and move on. We can (and DO) rewatch the parts we need to see, so why waste time with anything else? I subscribed instantly. I can’t tell you enough how much I appreciate your approach to making videos (I hope this one wasn’t a one-off, lol). Thanks for a great video, and I’ll be checking out your other videos soon!
cool anything.... Really enjoy..thank you for the show(s).
Fraoch, and this has given me an idea for "black canvas" relief carvings, thanks!
