My husband worked all the time, leaving little time for my son and I. At one point I asked him just how much money did he think we needed to live a comfortable life? He surprised me by quoting a low number, in fact, it was much less than the amount of both his and my income combined. While he enjoyed his job and the material comforts it brought, he was often stressed out and never took time for a vacation. A few years later he died in a car accident (on his way to work) at the age of 53. Since then I always step back and re-evaluate my priorities. Perhaps that is something we need to instil in our children. Money may bring security, perhaps even happiness but it certainly can not bring back time. Life is way too short.

Just recently, I had to visit the ER due to stress levels that caused me to get anxiety attacks, over working myself for the comfort n status to be accepted by others, thinking it would bring me a sense of respect if I made more money, to feel superior to others. I had to reevaluate myself at that point and learned a good lesson the day I got sick. I learned that chasing money made me miserable, unhappy, and greedy. I'm now working normal hours, no overtime, and health is my first priority. Anything that brings me unnecessary stress, I remove it from my life or politely walk away.
We all must remind ourselves that OUR GREATEST WEALTH WILL ALWAYS BE OUR HEALTH.🙏
Yes! In 2005, I nearly lost my life to a rare blood disorder that shut down my kidneys. I spent nearly 2 months in the hospital, fighting for my life. One day, while in the hospital, I had an epiphany. I could have been the richest person on earth, but all I cared about was surviving. Money and “things” were of no importance.
Im going through the same situation now i worked for the last 5 years lile crazy i lived in my semi truck never went home i got 3 panick attacks, severe gastritis went to the hospital to check everything and still got the symptoms.. when money is good you feel like you can't stop working thats why im still workimg 😂

Four years ago I retired and sold everything I owned, and now I live in a tiny jeep Cherokee exploring the US. I have learned that money. and expensive toys will not make you happy. I have learned not to be a slave to your junk and too much comfort is dangerous. I am now stress-free, and the happiest I have ever been.

I started a company that’s been doing great and has started opening up a lot of time, freedom, and remote flexibility. I’m currently 27. The hard part for me is now knowing what the hell to do with it all. You spend so much time dreaming and fantasizing that when it becomes a reality (or a version of it) the options are honestly a bit crippling. Im planning on traveling abroad in some capacity but the freedom has honestly become a big source of stress for me. Nobody ever talks about this shit. While I never want to go back, the days of living paycheck to paycheck were far simpler due to the financial constraints. Your days were kind of planned out for you and there is order in those limitations. It’s a weird feeling to think about. I’m exiting the “rat race” but don’t even know what to do with myself anymore. Hesitant to complain because I know I’m super fortunate but I’m totally lost… hard to find advice or mentors because most people around me are still deep into the rat race and are living the more traditional American life. The grass is always greener on the other side.

My mom was always working and sleeping while my dad tried his best to find time to spend time my sister and I. He would always take us to trips like Mexico, Las Vegas and Disneyland. When I look back at my pictures when I was a child, it was always my sister, my dad, and I but never my mom. When he passed away last year I have pictures and memories of him that I can cherish. My mom is growing old and has just realized that life is more than just about working for money. There has to be a healthy balance between working and living life.

Unless you want to be a burden on someone else the belief that you can play your way through life is a fallacy. And its true that thr people who ask those type of questions have the money and have sacrificed a lot to get it.
Your HEALTH and TIME means way more than Money. Both of these can't be purchased no matter how much money you have. Enjoy your one life while you have a chance with no matter how little money you have. When you get older, that brand new car you purchased in the 90s will mean nothing when you don't have your health or have time to really do what you actually always wanted to do and put it off to make money. You can't take it with you, NOTHING.

You interview people in one of the most expensive country to live in. Money is hugely important there. A lot of dreams and passion has been sacrificed which create unhappiness overtime. A lot are not truly happy there but what choice do they have when everything is so expensive..
The part were you told the college student, "did you know that I also was in introvert and just went for it.." this response has little meaning in itself, however made a huge impact on that guy. Impacting others, is priceless and you never know who you might be able to.
All I could think off though is that one can not use willpower to change from an introvert to extrovert, it is a biological physical trait. It annoyed me when a coworker told me he used to he introverted like me. He was wrong, he was just a shy extrovert and now his shyness is gone.

I, on the other hand, make money work for me - bought my first house at 19, worked like a Trojan and paid the mortgage off when I was 34 and then my money was mine to do as I liked. I live a very humble life because I never try (or feel the need) to impress other people: my car is 23 years old, I buy my clothes from thrift shops and don’t fill my house or life with clutter. But my Aunt summed (British) people up years ago: she said “They spend money they haven’t got, to buy things they don’t need, to impress people they don’t like”. Think about it ……

7 years ago, I was making $11/per without a degree. Then, I got my Masters degree & starts making 6 figures. One time, I felt that im not making enough, then I realized that as human we always want more. money is not always enough.
I get annoyed at people who say money isn't happiness. Money = freedom, and to me and probably nearly every person on Earth, freedom = happiness.
A key question to ask in tandem is “how much free time do I want, and how do I want to spend it?” While a certain amount of leisure is essential to a satisfying life, research shows that people tend to feel more fulfilled and gain more meaning from their work/productive endeavours than they do from their leisure time. If you ask people how they’d spend all their time if they didn’t have to work, most wouldn’t be able to provide a clear answer beyond what they’d want to do for the first few months. In my view, the reason you tend to spend a large part of your time working, William, is because you’re living your purpose and furthering that purpose provides you more fulfillment, on average, than additional hours of leisure time. That being said, I think Sprouht’s mission is an important one, and thus each additional hour of work your team spends results in a great amount of value in the aggregate for your viewers, so thank you!
If you live within your means, you'll realize that you have more money. It requires a lot of discipline but once you stop buying crap you don't need to impress people who don't even like you then you'll be content.
I was born poor and became rich. How you pursue money and how much you need is directly related to how hard it is to get. When I was young I worked 10 to 12 hours days to get out of poverty. Things became much easier for me and today I still chase money. Thing is I work 2 to 6 hours a day and make more per year than I ever have. So if it takes all your time (Life) to get more than you need it's not worth it. But if you can make tons of money and really not try that hard you should if it is only to help those around you.
I was very fortunate to have traveled the world while I still still working . Money is only a tool it gives you options . Your health, good family and good friends #1 money buys me security and experiences . Most important thing is that my healthcare knowledge helps people that gives me purpose. At the end you can’t take it with so live a good life .

Despite growing up in a Chinese household where I was considered a failure and black sheep for not adhering to traditional expectations, I have learned a lot about what I truly want from money in my 30 years of life. My family may not be aware, but I have achieved the standard American dream by purchasing a house and cars and serving in the military. I was born in Hong Kong, immigrated to the US, and have had the opportunity to explore different parts of the world. I have also made mistakes, such as buying and selling houses and losing hard-earned money, but I have learned valuable lessons from those experiences. As many mentioned in the video, money provides a sense of security, which is important to me. I desire to earn more money so that I can provide meaningful experiences for my children and donate to public school teachers. This would give my money a purpose and fulfill a dream of mine.

Great video! Yes, so I was burned out from work about 2 years ago. My back actually went out and I was out of work for one month. I went back to work after the month off, but told my manager that I needed to go down on my work hours and she thankfully said yes. So, now I make less money, but I decreased my expenses quite a bit. Found a cheaper place to rent, no more eating out and no more spending money on clothes. And I am soooooo much more happier now! It’s all about balance and finding what is right for you.

My grandfather had a little wall-mounted piece of metal that displayed a saying and I have memories of this at 6 or 7 years old. It read, “ money, can’t buy happiness, but it makes misery more enjoyable.” As I got older, and came to understand it’s meeting, I always disagreed with why the word “misery” was in there.
Your wealth is measured by what you can do without, everything in moderation when you are on your deathbed you will not say "I wish I worked more".Singapore is so beautiful and clean and the people are so well-mannered it is a place I now intend to visit.

When I got married at 18 I thought I checked all the boxes. 10 years later it turned very dark and he made sure he took everything even if it wasn't legal. I had no protection and turned to God. This isn't about religion but recognizing a Higher Power that gives our life a Flow. My point is, that by default I had to make a life with almost NO resources. And since that time "opportunities" have flowed into my life. I'm now living the life that I wished for as a kid in the city that I love. The neighborhood is very supportive. Everything I need is a 15 min walk, or there is a bus or a car rental down the street. I can't afford a car. My pace of life is so chill and I'm now doing the art that I always told myself I'd do when life slowed down. The art is for my Spirit. But I also live in the #2 art market so maybe God has more plans for me.??

Money undoubtedly serves as a necessary tool for survival in today's world. It provides security, meets our basic needs, and opens doors to opportunities. However, the correlation between money and long-term happiness is complex. While financial resources are essential for survival, true and lasting happiness stems from experiences, relationships, personal growth, and a sense of purpose. Striking a balance between financial stability and pursuing a meaningful life is key to finding genuine fulfillment. IMHO money does not bring happiness. However it is needed for survival.
Looking at different cultures and seeing their point of view regarding money is cool and a reflection of my current environment. I'm Colombian living in the US most of my life, also lived in Spain and this video made me look back and think about motive that sometime is all about taking that risk but more important what is my end goal at the end of the day.

I really resonated with the person who said “if you work 24 hours a day how will you spend the money.” Like at some point you’re going to not be able to buy back all that lack of fulfilment. Even all the pleasures can’t make up for it. I personally think about ratios and percentages instead of dollar amounts so that it doesn’t change with inflation. I loved how you said we should be more reflective on what we want so we don’t succumb to lifestyle inflation. But personally, I don’t really care about proving myself to others through a big house or something. I like material possessions but I like their appearance or function for myself. The idea of spending all my money to get a big suburb house instead of traveling and enjoying my job feels like death.

I agree with the lady that money is 'an enabler'. Not everyone hopes to earn money with the goal to 'impress people we don't like by owning things we don't need'. But it does enable us to travel, provide more options for our children's education and hopefully, retire with enough funds so that we will not burden our loved ones.
I learned a hard way to ask myself how much money I really need and don’t forget to enjoy life and loved ones along the way. Also I was raised in Bkk and entirely understood the Asian culture to sustain or always boost your social status. It could be good and really bad. For me, it was too much pressure, I only knew one word “money” growing up. I went to one of the best universities in Thailand. So what, I later learned to focus on me, myself, not always to please others. I moved to the western world prioritizing myself, my thoughts . IMO people here or at least people around me are not materialism. They say what they mean for the most part. I live and learn everyday.

I think as time goes on, I'm realizing more and more that time ITSELF is the true value to me. Most of us don't make passive income, and trade our time for money. So I believe, in order to really be happier, make what you can whenever you offer your time for money. BUT.... ENJOY the time after that!!!! Be financially responsible of course, but spend some time doing whatever YOU like to. Rather it be with friends, family, on a hobby, etc. If you work and do not much else, money becomes the only thing in sight and it can be troubling. Especially if it feels like you're getting nowhere. Even rich people stress over money. Along with other things too. Work for money. Spend your time for your life fulfillment. Whatever it is. Simply put, enjoy as much time as possible.

This is a great video...i found myself getting lost in the "I'll be happy if I get to this amount of money". Yes I want save to get to an X amount of money in my "emergency funds"...but I'm going to enjoy myself and live within my means. I'll try to always live within my means and not get caught up in "tying to impress people"..nobody gives a fuck about me, why should I try to impress people with material things. Enjoy life and be comfortable in my skin.

Hey man, singapore native here, you are right about that, but its a way of life. The choice we can make however, is till how old and/or how much we each need, i myself dont intend/need that much, looking towards my mid 30s and early 40s for my ultimate adventure!
6:45 This is so true. The phrase, "Money doesn't buy you happiness" is so insensitive because people struggle in life because they have no money. No money to travel, pay rent and utilities, pay for healthcare, pay for food, nor pay for anything essential. Money is what enables you to live life, let alone a long and fulfilling one. Yes it's unhealthy to chase money, but sometimes a person's entire life hinges on this one motivation.
Honestly both ideas are right. Money can buy happiness. Once you have the basics covered though...it takes a lot more to increase the quality of life and once you make 50 million there are no quality of life improvements

For some, the advice may not be great but for me it was like the energy, life, Gods, Goddesses, money conspired me to hear it because i was side tracking in life. Your videos are so insightful. It’s a good question to ask - how much money do you need? For me, as long as all the bills are paid and I can save at least 10% of my salary each month 😮 regardless of your employment, pursuing money is fine but you must enjoy what you do, otherwise your mental health will give you a rude awakening 😢 it’s pointless setting a target like after making £1m, I’ll be happy - it doesn’t work like that. You have to be happy in the present as the future is only a concept, an abstraction 🙏

The careers that provided enough income to provide what we wanted for our family were, at times, quite stressful. But, yes, it was worth it. We are both retired now. Retirement is better than working, but you will be able to retire only if you work hard and live below your means during your working years. That’s just how it works.

When I realized making money is not something fancy at all, it is just a game. Either you are really good at playing this game or you suffer from it. After that, I made a comprehensive caculation about the amount of money I need for having a good life. I started to focus on the game and played harder and smarter to get out of the rat race. Life is really great, and I hope we all could find the balance between money and life.

Hey man fellow Montrealer here, found you by looking at your Vancouver videos from a recent trip I did and didn't expect this phylosophical stuff hah. I love how at 7:50 you might have saved this man from a lifetime of misery. But ya seeing you and one of my friends make it big on KZhead inspired me to escape the rat race as well, I also have a 120k CAD /yr super stable job as you did. Cheers mate.

I had jobs I enjoyed more than other and some less. Nothing is perfect and that’s ok. The one thing is do not sacrifice your health and important relationships for a career. Bc then you’ll be spending that money to get your health back. An ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure. If you don’t make time for wellness, you might be forced to make time for illness. Your health is your biggest asset.

I find it sad that money is the number one goal/objective (that is the percentage you show that confirms it) in the US/Canada. I am 59 y/o, I lived in Canada (Montreal) almost 40 years ago for a couple of years and worked in a UK/US company during more than 20 years, it has always been that way. I have lost family and friends during my life (like everyone), and I can definitely affirm that what are the most important things in life, are your family and friends. Do not miss your family life, if you have kids, don't miss their growing ages, don't miss anything that, for sure, you will regret not to having lived when it will be too late, kids are growing fast, parents are dying, friends unfortunately as well and one day it will be your turn, but until then, enjoy your social and family life and don't lose it running after material stuff thinking that money is a security or will help you find happiness, that is untrue, it is first and foremost a prison that is preventing you to live fully your life on this planet. I have missed too much of my social and family life and I do regret it, so much, unfortunately it will never come back, never.
Unfortunately all those relationships work with money
@@rohanutep81 definitely work on money but at some limits and that can be managed. But when we are going beyond limits we missed the relationship.

Relax! You aren’t meant to have it right away. It comes as you learn. Money that comes quickly is lost quickly. These are your best years. You can’t get them back. Keep working but don’t stop living! Balance. Everything in balance. Example: who really needs a car in Singapore? I am curious. And why?
That's right. Car and condominium in SG for what? Both are taken care by government.
