That's why they are trained as police dogs. My neighbor trained these and he had a few of them fail police school every year for various reasons. We got one of those puppies that failed for being "too friendly" and gave it to my grandpa after his other dog died. That dog was insanely smart, but also insanely clingy with my grandpa. Figured out ways to get inside his room and sleep at his feet when he recovered from a stroke. The dog died just days after my grandpa, the vet said from a broken heart.

Yes. And they are one-man dogs. That could get tricky. One female worker of a guy was killed (while the guy was not home ) because she was a new staff and nobody told her not to handle him. Go look it up. It was a while ago In Indonesia. The dog was called Sparta. He was confiscated by the authority and I think he died (I think from broken heart having been separated from his master)
@yellowcricket85976 ай бұрын
And they have no fear. The female malinois that the guy has was brought to visit the friend of her master who keeps tigers (in big enclosures, mind you), the tiger, being apex predators, stalked, crouched, roared and all that. This female malinois -Anubis- struck back, with the intention to fight back. Obviously she hasn't seen tigers before, and saw the tigers as bigger animals who meant her master harm. Amazing. Of course the master did everything not to let Anubis go and attack the tigers, which would've been cruel and stupid.

I have a Belgian malinois. Yes, you can keep one in a yard. We have 4ft fencing that he could easily just trip and fall over, but he stays in his yard. It's because he's trained. He even plays with the neighbor dog through the fence when he could easily hop over it. They are incredibly smart dogs. They are also incredibly obedient dogs when trained correctly. My dog has a billion toys and he has every one of their names memorized. If I tell him to go get Ducky or Ziggy or whatever, he will go get the correct one, every time and bring it to me to play with him with. They are also very demanding dogs and need a lot of your time. In the summer, we leave the back door open and he's free to go in and out as he pleases. Well, he wanted me to go outside and play with him but I was being lazy. He grabbed one of my shoes, showed me that he had it, and took off outside. He went to the edge of the pool and would pretend to drop my shoe into the pool. He'd drop and then catch it really quick before it touched the water, over and over. A couple of summers ago, the wife and I were in the house and he kept running in, grabbing a toy and then taking off outside with it. He kept doing this and so I went out to see what he was doing with all of his toys. The neighbor had family over and he was playing with these two little girls, about 5-6. He was bringing his toys out to show the little girls. He just never ceases to amaze me.

Exactly. They're very well behaved when trained, or even just disciplined. I don't think these dogs necessarily need a lot of training to understand that they have to listen to their owner. We very recently adopted my Grandad's 9 year old Malinois, due to him having Dimentia and not being able to look after her anymore. She's great. So well behaved, extremely intelligent, loves attention and is a massive people pleaser. She's a very sensitive dog, but I'm taking it that's a by-product of their intelligence.

They're a shepherd breed, they are bred to be protective guard dogs and can be trained to be excellent attack dogs because of their willingness to obey and cooperate with a human. Where the video and your comment completely go off road is the wolf comparison. I own one. Incredible animal. Athletic, intelligent and very empathetic. Fun but challenging dog.
@@yellowcricket8597 Mine is pretty much the family pet. I will say he obeys me best but he is amazing with my grandchildren from the 4 year old to the 15 year old. We have 2. One is almost human like in how she interacts. Soooo intelligent. All love but require 4 hours a days of activity.
Goddamn dawg yo friends not paying much attention atm? This KZhead comments not a biography
Did you do professional training or self
I almost read that whole thing
I read all of it. Sounds like some great dogs!
Had one as my service dog. Smarter than most people and was great with my kids. He was a great buddy. Miss him so much.
Can’t imagine how much that dog loved you bro, Sorry for your loss . Thank You for Your Service 🤝
Same here. He used to do my homework for me. Great service dog
How cool!
Smarter than most dog breeds perhaps but ‘most people’? Not a chance. What you describe is a known psychological phenomenon called anthropomorphism & studies have shown that “the closer a human is to their dog, the smarter they think the dog is.” Research findings are that dogs' mental abilities are most similar to that of human babies between the ages of 14 - 24 months.
Awh ❤ We have one she has been the best dog I’ve ever had so smart and so protective especially over my children she won’t let anyone she don’t know near them and she just loves them so much

WoW! what kind of people do you hang out with?
Joe does the MALIGATOR stare ! TOO FUNNY.
Do not get these dogs if you can't handle them. It's not fair for the dog. They are one of the few breeds that genuinely need to be worked. Like, they live for it.
Just like cheetah cats they are not for the average pet owner and I like some comments saying they are good for families, they are absolutely not good if you have small children, if they say they are, they're lieing to you.
I think all dogs need to have "work". Not just some.
Ya, if you don't have the time to adequately meet their needs you don't deserve to have the dog. Many people will hear that and say oh I can handle one then get pissed off when they bark all the time and destroy the house out of boredom.
@@alexashworth3119 to an extent, but these dogs are in a different class. Heelers are another good example. They don't just want to be worked, they actively crave work.
@@zc1682 Even an animal such as the sloth wants something to do. All creatures have the desire to work, some just do it differently. Ever watch the movie Deep Blue Sea? So here's the riddle. What does an eight thousand pound mako shark with a brain the size of a flat head V8 engine and no natural predators think about?... That's the answer to the riddle. Border collie is the smartest. I have a malinois and a border collie, very different dogs, both exceptionally intelligent, both have to work but they both use their intelligence in different ways.
They are not only like a wolf. They are like a wolf with cat genes....
Great athlete's you could say. I like your description.
Agreed
They're very agile indeed, but not exceptionally so. If you follow the world of competitive dog agility competitions, you will rarely see them. They're a shepherd breed, they are bred to be protective guard dogs and can be trained to be excellent attack dogs because of their willingness to obey and cooperate with a human. Where the video and your comment completely go off road is the wolf comparison. There are plenty of dog breeds that are genetically way closer to wolves than the Mechelaar (yeah, that's how we call them here, where they're from).
Excellent analogy.
Uhhh, so a fox?

You were blessed... that she wanted to engage in a affectionate way with others, great dog! I'm sure or Hope you knew... she was telling you she needed more to do, in her climbing that fence! 😉 God bless, her🙏 I hope she had the best life had to offer! 🥰
I miss our Mali. We found her on top of the refrigerator once 😅 They're too smart for their own good sometimes!

What an amazing animal glad they are man's best friend
They are also very attached to their owner. Do not leave them alone for too long. I went out of town for a few days and mine escaped the house and went to the park looking for me
My current girl is left by herself for over 8 hours a day and won't leave the property, her half sister dutch/malinois mix was stolen by my ex and would run off looking for me.

Tying him to a piece of furniture he's allowed on with a lead and a nanny can to give commands via voice if needed works beautiful for us
My late granfather used to train these dogs. He won belgian championships with his dogs, my cousin displayes his trophies at home now. When my mom was little the dogs were so well trained that that they would give little horseback rides to my mom and my aunt around the yard.
Horseback dog um I'm I missing something or am I misunderstanding something because dogs can't give horseback rides itd break there back right right
@@unknownbutknown332 She said when her mom was little. I don’t think a little kid would be a problem for a strong ass dog like this
@@CGMastarr I knew I was missing something😂🙈
My papaw did the same!! I remember him training two in his backyard. He had them in hand signals. Once trained, he never had to speak a command. And even though they were working dogs ( my grandfather was a PO and eventually the Chief of Police) they were so gentle and fun to play with as a lil kid. 😊 In are family we don’t trust anyone, unless dog approved 😂 first.
I have a Belgian Malinois. Everyone always sees them in work mode, or protective mode, but they are by far the most affectionate breed I've ever been around when they bond with you. Such sweet dogs
My husband had a Belgian Malinois, Ludo for a partner and Ludo was the biggest cuttle baby. Off work Ludo was the best family dog ever. Very loyal, smart, and gentle. When it was time for work, Ludo transformed into work mode. Never confusing the two,
I was fishing at an urban lake with my 5 of 6 child and one of these dogs really really really wanted to come play with my son. She was running back and forth trying to find a way to get to us. After 5mins or so she decided to jump in the lake and swim across to us. I put my son behind me just in case she wasn't friendly, but as soon as she got out of the water and shook off she looked like she was smiling and wagging her tail so crazy her whole body was shaking. She absolutely loved my son and wouldn't leave his side even while he was fishing. It took almost an hour for me to get ahold of the owner. Amazing dogs right there
Awww that’s so sweet! I woulda been tempted to ask the owner if I could buy her. I wonder if there was a boy your sons age or looks like him in her family that made her act that way
honestly very good with kids ours is an amazing protector of anything small human.
Your son has a brother for life that dog could go five years never seeing him and remember the nice boy from the lake and guard him with his life. I love them ssssooooo much. Wouldn't trade mine for the world.
What the crap was the owner doing??!(frantically looking for their dog, I imagine😅) . That scenario is scary. A dog unsupervised, off leash in a park? Even if he's wagging and sending off all the right signals. No way I would let my hypothetical dog approach humans without me being around.
@roddo1955 watching the super bowl is what her story was
I rescued one that was blind and in a panic. I got bitten for my trouble, but I hugged him tight and he immediately relaxed and behaved impeccably after that.

Rip Cairo the Malinois who accompanied them when they caught Bin Laden. They jump out of planes, love my Maligator.
Not just Team 6. All SEAL teams use the Maligator.
We have one, he’s best friend to the grandchildren, my hunting companion, has an inside and outside voice, keeps the perimeter of the homes free of varmints, basically chief of security inside and out. Has a massive vocabulary, unlike our labs he’s not food motivated, he’s relationship driven. Finally, his best attribute, on the rare occasion a family member has a small crisis or is ill he attaches to them. Best way to describe him, “he’s complicated “. His name is Zeke and he lives with our two families on our 34 acre family compound.
I love mine and will always have one from here on out! Everything rings true on what you said! The absolute most affectionate dog I have ever owned!

My brother in law was a K-9 officer. He had one of these awesome dogs. They did so much good work together. And they had the unthinkable relationship. She was a highly effective police dog when she had her "work" collar on and when off duty, she was a family dog. Very rare.
This dog’s athleticism and speed is beyond immaculate 🔥👏
Best dog ever! My son, a Marine, came home from Afghanistan and has one as a service dog. She senses when he is stressing out and jumps to put a paw on each shoulder and gently licks his check to calm him down...beautiful

They are phenomenal dogs. Smart , loyal and strong.
Harley was my favorite. Lived side by side with him for 20 years.
My next door neighbor rescued one of these, which I immediately told her she was in way over her head. Within a month this dog had bit everybody in the house, legit destroyed her living room floor one day when she left for 2 hours and would scale her 6ft fence almost daily with zero problem. I couldn't believe some rescue gave a dog like this to a single mother with zero dog experience.
Rescue places should really start considering who they are giving certain dogs to. Not everyone is cut out for such a dog and that person is going to be liable when the dog does something to someone else.
This is not a dog breed for newbies that's for sure. Even more if you don't get it when it's a puppy to establish hierarchies soon as possible.
Rescue should NEVER give these dogs to an untrained person. If you know Malinois, it's the easiest dog on the planet. But if not: you are in for a nightmare. Marc from Malines, Belgium.
What if it was A Single Father??? Misogynist, I've seen an idiot male with one of these dogs, using it to prove how Macho he was, dog was leaping at people, he thought that was funny!!!
@@mlambrechts1 Very obedient dogs. But very intelligent, they need huge amount of attention
These dogs are more than just athletes. They have tons of character. My parents have a malinois and he is hilarious. He likes playing games but will always try to 'trick' you, in the most funny way. Sometimes he'd 'act up' and I'd threaten to walk away and he starts 'wailing and whooping and begging you to not go😂. Very vocal, very loyal and protective.
Are they friendly dogs? They look like they could do some damage if they wanted to
@@nobodyspecial6513 90% of dogs could f you up if they wanted too.
@@nobodyspecial6513they are very friendly dogs. their main drawback (which is actually a plus for some) is that they require a lot of attention and training. they are a working breed so they love to be out and be active with their owner and can be prone to anxiety and destructive behavior like ripping up couches and barking excessively if they don't receive proper training. another thing, these dogs NEVER tire, they can run around outside all day, every day.

no way - wolves are shy, apprehensive, anxious about strange things. Belgian malinois no fear and complete obedience, complete different genetics
That’s because they’ve been socialized with humans.

Brilliant disciplined and courageous dog. Trouble is most wealthy narcissistic people are unsuitable owners. poodles too, so athletic and intelligent.
Poodles are basically mals with long hair. My service dog needs 2 hours of extensive training after 2 hours of intense exercise DAILY just so he doesn't eat the couch. 20 years ago west of Austin we had a small 5 acreage lot near 300 acres and a mountain lion was at our house after two weeks being there and my Belgian wanted out bad, she flew off the porch and in the bushes next to the house this small mountain lion springs out. Sadie was right on that cats butt barking and chasing it away for about a hundred yards and she finally heard me screaming to return! She ran back so proud of what she did and had the biggest smile! They’re great dogs, my old neighbors had one, dog survived a copperhead bite in the leg like it was nothing. Still years later hair won’t grow around the area he was bit. Absolute trooper of a dog, smartest, best trained dog I’ve ever seen in person. My German Shepard is a GREAT guard dog, same neighbor that has the Belgian malinois is a cop & he always complimented her ab being a good guard dog . But the Belgian takes what’s good ab the German Shepard & is lighter, faster & imo smarter. Like a German Shepard but without the superfluous muscle
I had a black mountain lion in my driveway. They’re literally so hard to see at night. I only saw him cause it was on the gravel and the moon was full. I had 3 dogs. One ran but it didn’t attack after it was seen. The black cougars just have no fear. And I think they might be larger naturally cause they’re better hunters. It was about as tall as my brothers Brazilian mastiff but twice as long. It looked like it was 250 lbs easy. It was huge and the scream is just unimaginable. Might as well be a Banshee.
