I feel Arceus gave us a great introduction to the open world aspect. Hopefully Scarlet/Violet will carry the same battle difficulty/strategizing if not better. I personally liked how I actually had to make an effort in Arceus

I feel like they played the build up to the Gen 9 reveal so well! The police officer and the cluttered room made you think it was Detective Pikachu, the graphics made you think it was Arceus DLC, the environment made you think it was SwSh DLC, you really couldn’t tell it was Gen 9 until the starter reveal!

This game has to be based in Spain. If you look at the main palace-looking building it is clearly a representation of the "Sagrada Familia" in Barcelona, and when it shows the plaza with the mosaic floor and buildings it reminds you exactly of "Parc Guell" also in Barcelona. I have been to Barcelona and the scenery looks exactly like what you see in this game!

It is based in Spain. The starter names were revealed on the website and the grass and fire starter have spanish names (sprigatito and fuecoco) while the duck is named Quaxly

So Scarlet and Violet are going to be representing hugely specific and culturally significant foods of Spain. Oranges, specifically Sanguinas have massive cultural significance even in relationships as we say “looking for my other half of the orange” instead of soulmate, and Grapes are a massive crop as well, even used to celebrate the new year. As a Spaniard, this is insanely cool to have Gen 9 potentially be set in España!!!

It’s Spain or Spain/Portugal, but mostly I believe it’s Spain. The map outline both in-game and in the room is an uncanny outline of Spain. Also, one of the flags of Spain features both the color Scarlet and Violet. The fruits are Sanguinello and Grapes. Sanguinello is blood orange, native in Spain and we know they make rad wines from grapes.
It's a shame not having Portugal... I wanted my country represented in a pokemon game. If it's based in the Iberian peninsula it's weird not having Portugal there

As a person who almost always go for the Water-Type starter, I actually prefer the other two starters from my first reaction. But since the Water Starters never failed me, there’s a pretty high chance that I’m choosing the duck.

So many music references in the gen 9 trailer, piano, record player, and the sound of a baton tapping at the starter reveal.
Omg so excited!!! This is based on Spain, because we are shown the map of it. But i also believe it as Portuguese influence. The shot of the city at the 2 min mark looks like Praça do Comércio in Lisbon, Portugal. The colours and the arrangement of the buildings. Not only that but Stonjourner, the stonehenge pokémon, could be a reference to Portugal stonehenge, called Cromeleque dos Almendres.

I vaguely remember hearing a few years ago that a team went to Spain. There’s a treasure chest and something black hanging on a chair that looks kinda like a flag. Its definitely Spain. The trailer shown structure & architecture similar in Spain such as Sagrada Familia (that huge poke-tower) and trainer's starter home. Some say the windmill shown also resemble in the story of Don Quixote or something.

Hahaha your reaction was great! They did a great build up too! I share the same hype! Color names too, throwback! And instead of Italy we get Spain/Portugal. Interesting starters (design wise) too. Curious what they will become and what new mons will be coming to game. Going to look more into the countries. Can't wait for more stuff to come out. November seems so far still. xD Saw the trailer a few times and there are multiple gens of Pokemon in the game which is quite common luckily, and as far as i've seen no new types according to the ground tiles. We do have abilities and on the Pokemon website the names etc are mentioned of the starters and some info. Open world also. I hope it has a challenging factor like BDSP had but then selectable or something. A good story is fine with me too like SWSH. Maybe we learn something more about the countries too. Also would love to option to like skip or speed through dialogs for experienced players.

definitely based on Iberia, AKA Spain/Portugal. I've lived in Spain for 3+ years and all the references are here: Brick/stone architecture, palm trees, flamenco dancer in painting, hanging multi-colored flags in the city, Muslim-influenced architecture in the city, etc.

I started my Pokémon journey as a young lad of 9 on Christmas morning 1999 with Yellow. Following that day I've played every gen 1-8 game that was offered 34 in total now as a hardworking man of 31 I still play Pokémon seeing Pokémon in the actual overworld is amazing

I’m picking the water starter all day that hat on it’s head did it for me.. and if water starter is water/flying type it’s gonna be good against both the other staters cause the grass starter won’t be super effective on it because of the flying typing it has and it obviously good against the fire type stater..and water types are my favorite type so I was picking the water starter regardless..I’m so excited

The grass starter is probably loosely based on the Iberian Lynx which is a rare subspecies of lynx native to Spain.

Really love this presentation, so much updates for these other games and the big reveal at the end. Obviously i always go for the fire starter in every game cause theyre the best and cant wait to see all new Pokemon in this region. Chances are they'll follow the same formula like in all of other generation games but if they took out of anything from Legends Arceus they may add some mechanics into this game, like the Pokemon catching mechanic,ride Pokemon and hopefully crafting as well. Other things such as Pokemon attacking the trainer, a full Pokedex of all the Pokemon ever and battling mechanics such as mega-evolutions,z-moves and dynamaxing won't be implemented in gen 9.

Ok, initial thoughts on the Starters. The Fire Starter seems to be breaking the tradition of the Chinese Zodiac theme, unless it somehow evolves from an alligator into a snake. Already getting strong typing vibes from two of them, the Duck just screams Water/Flying, but i could also see it getting something else. The Gator though, i am getting major, and i mean major, Fire/Ground vibes from this thing. The Grass cat though, no feelings on its typing, unless i base its potential secondary off my assumptions for the other two, then i would guess Electic, creating a secondary triangle of Electric, Ground, and Flying. Im going to have a hard time choosing between the Fire and Grass starters, that gator looks like its going to be something super physical and a major powerhouse once it evolves, but i am really hoping that cat evolves into a Smilodon (Sabertooth tiger for the layman). But that duck, currently doesnt do anything for me, ill have to see what it's evos look like, maybe it can redeem itself in future evolutions. I do like its sailor cap though, makes me think it will become an albatross, or hell maybe even a Shoebill, those could be interesting.
I understand the ground and I'm probably dead wrong anyway but too bit on the alligator just makes me think grass possibly poison just cuz it looks like an apple. I doubt it'll be grass but I would I do think I'd be a neat typing
@@ryuudraco592 We do need a Fire/Grass pokemon, though GF is extremely unlikely to give a one of the starters two starter typings. Honestly they missed a golden opportunity in Alola to make a Fire/Grass type. Most people think of a pepper pokemon for this dual typing, and those that like to joke say a weed pokemon, BUT Alola could have given us a Tiki pokemon. I know the Tapu's are supposed to represent Tiki's in some regard, but just imagine an actual Tiki Torch Fire/Grass type.

@@dtell3424 This is DLC. Free DLC. More quests, other species getting Outbreaks, new kinds of Outbreaks in general, more Trainer battles, photo options, etc. That sounds like a DLC update to me. Also, Khu described exactly what some of DLC entails yesterday (at the time of making this reply). He said that there's no new Pokemon or new forms, but there's new Outbreaks.

Gen 9 is looking sweet from that glimpse. Looking at it from the video could be a little bit of PLA mixed in with the familiarity of previous gens like badges. Possible open world exploration etc. Idk wayyy to early to tell but that was a good video and saving what they know everyone wants til last. I thought those designs were fake because the fire one looks amazing. Love that apple alligator/tyrannosaurus Rex, the Water "Army" Seagull too (Wingull is probably my favorite water type but now with this little boy I feel like I'll have a new fav) but the grass type looks kinda generic... I mean, it's extremely cute but looks like a Fakemon. Probably when I see that cat in 3d I'll change my mind. OMG I'm so excited!!
Honestly for me i thought all of them were fakemons the grass starter definitely looks very generic
it's so strange looking back, seeing all the obvious hints they put in the vid, like the school emblems, the fruit-bowl, the sandwiches, and they even put the team star logo in there!
The roller coaster of emotions you went through lol, so pumped for gen 9!
I think I’ll pick the starter depending on how their evolutions look otherwise I might pick water maybe fire

A tweet went out with the names of the starters. Grass is Sprigatito, fire is Fuecoco, and water is Quaxly. Based on the names I believe it’s based in Spain, not Italy
What I first thought of the new Gen 9 pokemon games is that its title is based on Infrared (Scarlet is a shade of red) and ultraviolet. Meaning, spectrum would probably play a role hear. I'm thinking, maybe, we wpuld have specialist for all 18 pokemon types on a round-robin tournament style before even fight the top players. I though of this because of the tiles on the plaza showing all pokemon types in a circle as if its an opening ground for Pokemon Olympics. :)
I’m kind of not excited for this, mainly because of the fact we just got Legends and the starters look like they came out of a fan game. Yeah, I might be judging it too early but I don’t want this to end up as another Sword & Shield. I really want to be proven wrong, because the game itself looks really good.
This is the comment I was looking for. They do look fan made, and I've seen some pretty good fan made art. But I hope they improve on the game mechanics. Otherwise it will just be another copy and paste.
I like these starters way better than the Galar starters, personally. I hope the evolutions don’t let me down.
I also updated my PLA and now outbreaks don't reset like they use to. I am not able to get the reset by leaving from camp.

When you realize the leaks of the riddler we're intentional so they use it as the introduction to gen 9 by finding his hideout

I think the new region is based of off the catalan region of spain. There was a building that looked like la sagrada familia with a pokeball on it.
i only have legends arceus for about 2 months and i almost finished it and now i cant wait for gen 9
