  • The problem with Cyclops in the movies is they clearly didn’t know what to do with him, & he got shafted by Wolverine. This is why I hope that the MCU Wolverine gets his own standalone films so he has his place to shine, & when he’s present in the X-Men movies, he’s a supporting character, Cyclops gets to be the leader of the team as he should be.

    • It made him likable, sure, but he was severely underpowered and not all that interesting. My favorite depiction is still Wolverine and The X-Men. I know Scott was portrayed more careless, aggressive, and depressed in the show, but that Scott had been through every ringer, and was simply done with holding back or showing restraint. That was the first show that ever convinced me to take Cyclops seriously, and consider him an actual threat. The show’s depiction of his power is terrifying. Yes, they had to make it a Wolverine-centric show because the studio demanded it, essentially switching Logan and Scott’s roles, but Cyclops was still the most interesting character.

    • lol Nothing comes close to the original X-Men animated series. I am almost 40 and watched every X-Men series when I was a child. After the series ended I was never invested in the universe like I was the X-Men Spidermen Universe that even had Blade in it. Blade is still connected to this universe! as well as spiderman. And Madame Web. There is almost 15 years of universe building. They have so much to work with. This Universe is the only universe I know that had both Avengers and X-men in them. Tony Stark is in this universe.

Then you have Wolverine The Face of the X-Men. The most popular character in Marvel next to and sometimes surpassing Spidey. Having been somebody who only watched the X-Men films, I always wondered what the comics did differently to the films, however, I never bothered to figure out, because every X-men comic I attempted read (Unlike most comics) just expects me to have read every mainline X-Men comic since the 1970s, so I just can't get into them, lol, but yeah X-Men comic fans love Cyclops (I will say though, it's funny how everyone is now suddenly discovering that cyclops is actually a fleshed out character and pretending that they always hated how underused he was in the Fox films, when you NEVER saw anybody complain about that before, I feel like a lot of people are trying to fit in with the crowd, lolll)

Totally loved the Xmen 90s series too as a kid, and all the support this new series is getting is great! We can all have our favorite interpretation of the character, and my personal favorite Scott Summers is from Xmen evolution. Completely shared your opinion about Cyclops being the leader until I saw that series. In a series about people growing up like the Xmen, there are hardly ever stories of them actually in school growing up. Xmen Evolution had Xavier gather students to the institution one by one. Scott was one of the older kids that looked out for everyone being the uptight "Dad" of the group. From baby sitter to even the little things like logistics--Scott could pilot the X-wing while teaching a younger student how to pilot it like older brother would and mentioned charting the destination with the FAA on a trip to recruiting another student. (Really specific thing to remember, but that stood out to me back then as someone into Aviation. Imo you wanna be leader of the Xmen, you gotta be straight with the FAA jk) Prof X even commended him, "well done son. You're growing up." You really saw Scott-- evo-- mature into a leader and earn that spot.

Whilst the Morrison run has his psychic affair with Emma, that came from a lot of existential crises eg the character reflecting on his emotional constipation and his relationship with Jean. Heck, in the Krakoa era, Cyclops and Jean defy the quiet council and reform the Xmen to be world defenders and spills the beans on resurrection because he wants to establish trust with the rest of the world.

Everyone else on the team either has superhuman durability (Rogue, Beast, Wolverine) or has powers that could act as a protective shield/barrier (Jean, Storm, Magneto). • The movie Cyclops was a fun riff on the goody-too-shoes cartoon character, but it should not have come to define the character overall. Great to see the real Cyclops is back and credit to Ray Chase for giving him that righteous 90's energy.

  • Both Cyclops and Storm were given their just dues in X97. Storm's entrance after the sentinels warning system goes off 'omega level threat detected'... That and the 'Give em the forecast' line by Scott. Man. Rewound that sequence so many times. They really need to put across how capable and powerful both Storm and Cyclops are in the MCU movies. There's a reason they are leaders A1 and A2 for the X-Men.

  • I agree‼️I grew up watching the original X-Men cartoons in the 90s.. Then they made the live action movies different in A Bad Way‼️I’m tuned in to the X-Men 97 like when I was A Kid & I hope they can bring this Accurate version of X-Men to the Big Screen‼️

  • 3:13 Scott is anything but a “ bad boy “ , he is the Captain America of the X-Men , he is the Boy Scout” of the team , of course he can be edgy at times, but that’s just it, X-Men 97 did him justice, this is the definitive version of Cyclops, period. The MCU must take inspiration from this show , because if or when it does we will get the best live action version of X-Men

  • I remember the one director apparently was a big Marvel Vs. Capcom fan whose main was Cyclops and he said he tried to get all the moves Cyclops could do in MVC2 into the show. Not all them made the cut, but that just goes to show how much of an effort went into making him actually cool again.

  • I'm truly convinced that whoever wrote Scott in X-Men '97 played him in the Marvel VS Capcom games. This show is amazing and everything Marvel needed. If only the MCU could reflect that. Now imagine if we could get a sequel to Spiderman The Animated series in this vein. I would literally cry tears of happiness.

  • Pleasantly pleased Witt this Cyclops and the series altogether. While I have some nostalgia for the original series, I recognize its faults. This takes what made the original series work and improves and builds upon it. Excellent and more seasoned voicework. Very good and expressive animation. That right balance of episodic and serialization. Really digging it so far.

Growing up, my favourite X-Man was and still is Wolverine; however, it was always plain to me that Scott is the leader of the team, his optic blasts being one of the biggest cannons on the team and I always found his film versions incredibly disrespectful and it's so great to see the real Cyclops back in action!
