  • Nice rig! I have struggled with the Nano ii control wheel on a camera rig, and finally settled on an old Nucleus M hand grip. The REC button isn't compatible, but focus finger wheel and A+B points are easy to operate. I also have the Nano ii control handle, and don't care for it much (bad ergonomics, impossible to read OLED screen).

    • They've done a great job with it, I hope they can carry that forward with their future released. I think they'll have mopped up a lot of new users with these mark 2s, so they can then persuade them to upgrade to a flagship later down the line.

    • Thanks, the 10K has been a big goal of mine, I've been so busy not properly celebrated yet! The 7" is the way to go! The atomos is a bit annoying as it has huge bevels that seem to waste a lot of space, but it gets the job done and it's not super heavy. I'll probably get a Small HD... one day.

      @EdProsser@EdProsser13 күн бұрын
    • @@EdProsser Definitely earned it my man! Love your videos. Yeah I have a super cheap Desview 7" that I've dropped a few too many time and I now need to replace lol. Thinking of getting the BMD Video Assist since it's gone down in price and I only use Resolve. Do you like the blackmagic ?

      @BrendonKPadjasek@BrendonKPadjasek13 күн бұрын
    • @@BrendonKPadjasek The video assist? Yeah I have the 5" the only problem is it's taken too much of a beating over the years and the screen is a bit broken so it limits how often I use it - sometimes I have to mount a second monitor to do my monitoring and just use the VA to record RAW.

  • Love this Ed, nice one, been looking for a good nice easy rig to aim and build towards with this camera and this looks superb! Personally, I love the XLR adaptor for the audio capabilities it opens on the camera, so I'm always wary about mounting top handles and monitors and would love to know what's the best way to bypass that problem, but that's a bit more niche of a concern. Congrats on 10K! Well deserved!

    @thatjakegriffin@thatjakegriffin13 күн бұрын
    • Yeah that's the only issue I don't own the XLR adapter but am thinking about picking it up - but I love using a centred top handle with monitor... I generally record interviews on my Zoom F3 and sync in post. Or if it's quick run and gun, I'll just plug my little DJI wireless mics direct into the camera. Thanks on the 10K - can't quite believe it but it's deffo been a goal I have been working towards!

  • My rig is pretty much identical, except I use the sigma 28-70 cause I prefer the size and don't really miss the 4mm on the wide end! Absolutely love this camera and realising that you can have such a streamlined, lightweight setup for 90% of work was really liberating with me. To be honest I rarely use many more lenses than just my 28-70 f2.8 and the nifty 50 which is actually incredible. Realising the screw on VND was more convenient and just as good as a matte box 90% of the time was a hard pill to swallow... but it's the truth!

    @minktronics@minktronics13 күн бұрын
    • It is - I actually never invested in a mattebox until much later down the line, I do see some differences in the quality, but that's mainly on my Komodo which is susceptible to IR pollution. On the LUMIX I pretty much always go VND all the way unless I have a bit more time for rigging. Had my eyes on the 28-70 for some time!

      @EdProsser@EdProsser13 күн бұрын
    • @@EdProsser the 28-70 is one of the best lenses I've ever owned - incredible autofocus, perfect IQ all throughout the range and the cherry on top is the size - it's literally half the weight of the 24-70. Can understand why it might be a bit too light for handheld work but I'd rather have a light setup and add weight if necessary rather than start heavy. i've been eying up the mc21 however - is there a list of lenses that work well with AFC on it or is it literally just a case of trial and error? cause there's some great, cheap EF glass particularly on the wide end i'd love to try out!

      @minktronics@minktronics13 күн бұрын
    • @@minktronicsyeah if I didn't already have the 24-70 I'd have picked one up! I've tried a fair few EF lenses and they all seem to work really well. Not quite the performance of native glass, but good enough. As mentioned in the vid i'm fairly new to AF so I use it intentionally / cautiously rather than rely on it for everything I do.

    @Chips-Lab@Chips-Lab13 күн бұрын
    • Yeah I hear you, it does make triggering record a bit more of a faff, but generally it's fine, I'm so used to having a side grip with the Komodo. It depends on the shoot though, sometimes I just stick with the camera grip. Honestly I never expected to be shooting with this lens - but it just works and for a lot of these kinds of jobs it makes life a lot easier when I'm travelling with a slimmed down kit bag.

  • Beautiful work as always Ed and pumped for the 10K milestone! 🎉 Funny you should mention the 24-70 AF. I was formerly a zealot for the 24-105 for clean, no nonsense corporate video on the S1H and S5. I’ve come around to the 24-70 now as the AF gets better and better and also, having been indoctrinated into strategising around manual focus over years, finally relaxing and letting AF make shooting life easier and provide options. I love your rig! And Insta360 off to the side!! Love it! Very Mr Kitters 😸 What do you do for audio? I use that DMW-XLR1 adapter, which is excellent. You get phantom power, line in, low-pass, and dual xlr in. The pre-amps are excellent too. Are you using that new HIGH stability mode?

    @the_black_douglas9041@the_black_douglas904113 күн бұрын
    • Yeah it's totally that thing if relaxing and working with AF! It makes things a lot easier. Audio wise the the XLR add on sorta blocks my top handle and monitor placement so I don't use it... I either record internally for smaller jobs or into my Zoom F3. I've been testing it, it's great on wider lenses like the 18mm where IBIS was sorta unusable before

  • Cool rig you got there! On what kind of projects do you use your Komodo rig vs the S5 IIx rig you showcased here?

    @_albertweisz@_albertweisz13 күн бұрын
    • That's a good question... a lot of the time I'm using both together and the LUMIX is a b-cam or on a gimbal. Generally I opt for the LUMIX S5 iiX if I'm shooting on my own, am delivering footage to a client online (so I can shoot smaller file sizes with compressed media), travelling by train or public transport... or if it's just a lower budget job or something quick that doesn't require a chunkier camera setup. For most of my KZhead content creation I'm using my LUMIX to capture BTS, talking heads and sample footage too. Having the V-mount solution is just sooooooo much better - even when I'm just recording my talking head pieces for KZhead because it means I don't have to worry about monitoring battery time if I'm recording a long script.

    @alzibaba@alzibaba11 күн бұрын
    • No I've not heard about this! The battery power is regulated so it should be okay, but generally I power the camera up and down properly and the dtap is coming from the battery plate which can be switched on and off too.

      @EdProsser@EdProsser11 күн бұрын
    • @@EdProsser unfortunately it’s definitely something that can happen, apparently even with regulated battery plates. I’ve seen too many ‘help my monitor’s not working anymore’ messages across forums, due to burnt out HDMI or SDI ports. Apparently the key is to attach power cables first, then HDMI or SDI cables, then power on. Then the reverse when removing them. Here’s an article from ARRI about this with SDI, but it’s equally applicable to HDMI: www.arri.com/resource/blob/194752/d3093e6af632150787ec95d176a39958/download-technical-information-data.pdf

    • It's good enough for me on these kinds of jobs, any time it's not doing what I want I can quickly toggle it off from the lens, which is nice and quick. I probably would still set the camera to manual focus for interviews, but mainly because these are solo operating jobs and I'm not always monitoring the camera continuously - which I'd want to do if it were on AF. I'm planning another vid on the AF and IBIS updates - testing is positive, it's improving, probably not as world leading as Sony - but I think it's good enough for my use!
