Milkicow really backed himself into a corner.
Should have started trickling BCs into the mix, even with the stalker count. Cost effective and a good source of actual offense even before reaching critical mass, and he could have jumped straight in for a bit. But that's just my armchair quarterbacking lol.
He really milked himself dry. He mooved himself into a bad position.
It's really hard for BCs to get value against protoss. The investment is rather big and they have a hard time killing anything. Yamato onshots most zerg units but not most protoss units + stalkers can dodge it. And while BCs are very tanky, they don't deal enough damage for their supply once you have 200 supply.
It's easy to forget the insanely high damage output of DTs, they may be frail as heck, but if they are on top of your when you're not expecting it, it doesn't matter if you have detection, you're gonna lose a lot of stuff
Milkicow squandered his lead. He spent his resources on upgrades and units, was 40 army supply and 3 upgrades ahead of his opponent at 4:30 but played too cautious poking around and not taking the fight to his opponent. MaxPax defend well against that and later took control of the map.
Not easy to force the defense consisting of 8 disruptors :/ Things can go boom !
@@Abandon-art There's only 2 disruptors at that point of time. If he had brought the 3 tanks, a liberator and remaining units he could definitely force the fight especially at the fourth and its unlikely the protoss could defend that base. Its true that disruptors can turn things around with big connections, but what's the point of spending so much resources on units and upgrades if he isn't going to take risk and go for it. In the end he lost a medivac full of units for free poking around and lost another large chunk of units to disruptors pushing out into the map. This is why i feel like he squandered his lead, if he wanted to play safe, he should have spent the resources on getting another base defend at home to maintain his lead.
@@skychaos87 Don't backsit him :p He probably wasn't aware of the opportunity. That happens a lot, especially in lower ranks.
well Maxpax is a 6.7k Grandmaster and Milkicow is currently 6.2k. Maxpax being Ranked 11 GM on EU and Milki being Rank 42 GM on NA respectively. these are some pretty high level players.
@@charact_r9202 I meant that lower rank players tend to misread the situation quiet more often than pro players. My msg wasn't clear, sry. I know that Max Pax is definitely a very good player !
The zerg-style protoss gameplay maxpax brought to the table is very entertaining. It seemed like there was little for Milkycow to do.
Yeah bring back the Warhound, Terran shouldn’t have to play good to win easily.
Terran bio (tier1 units) already outdps anything in the game and has been like that since sc2 release...
@@dab_yeetus Milkicow actually played very well, and he still lost. He was ahead for most of the battle, having better upgrades and tech, but...Disruptors go boom, Dark Templars go zoom.

This game has the most satisfying Disruptors shots I have even seen in a long time. Seeing units flying all around is quite amusing to be honest.

The new style of Stalker DT ruptor was quite nice and refreshing

That was some ZvP type gameplay, where the Zerg just don't allow the Protoss out of his base, except it's Protoss not letting Terran out. Good stuff
Amazing game. Maxpax's style in this is so micro intensive and difficult to manage. With this flimsy paper unit composition, which is super fast but dangerously weak against terran bio an entire army can die in the blink of an eye if you aren't paying attention. Impressive stuff by both of them, micro gods.
MaxPax was simultaneously controlling: Blink stalkers Blink DTs Disruptors Squads of DTs Squads of zealots To get back into that game, he was controlling 5 squads at once, 3 of which require a ton of micro.

Milkicow failed when he knew they were building lots of Dark Templars but didn't built ANY missile turrets or detection in response. He just relied on scanning with orbitals which was a mistake.
I mean, a raven or two probably wouldn’t be out of the question. Anti armour missile would have decent value too.
@@teamredshirt Normally Toss will just blink over and kill the Raven first, making it a waste of gas.

Using EMP for DT's instead of a Raven is like using an Oracle instead of an Observer. That was his mistake and he should have realized with the high DT investment.
Only that the raven is expensive and can be killed very ez. I think that dts do too much dmg with blink against Terran. It's not possible to react in time with scans or emps and raven is just bad as detection. I mean raven is awesome but if you only want detections it's just very clunky

(2 Dts cost > Raven Cost) I was saying to use ravens as a compliment to the emp's and scans, if you measure the investment in DT's it would have made sense to build a couple for the utility they give aswell. I think he was not expecting the investment to the DT's was goin to be that huge. DT's do lots of damage but also get incinerated by any terran bio
Milkicow was never on the offensive, he had a 60 supply lead after losing his liberators. But he let protos be undisturbed

Milkicow's positioning was just too clumsy. MaxPax's gas bank was completely drained at one point, but Milki couldn't set up the liberators quickly enough to get good trades. He was always setting up at the place MaxPax had just left
Can someone please explain to me why pro terrans never get liberator range?
@@guyingrey1072 Did he? Is the range to the upgrade much shorter than before or something? It feels like the liberators are constantly right on top of the circles.

@@rebounders when the observer zooms out, the lib's range looks small in comparison - even with lib range. however, as others have noted, milkicow did indeed get range

He even had starports with tech labs but made bc instead. Armor missile together with ghost emp or shutting down colossus or spotting dt's would all have been helpful.

97 vs 86 army supply but about 20/97 were medivacs, so actually slightly less combat units. However he might have run out of scans for DTs and his economy already crumbled, so I guess it was right tap out.
The econ crumble was probably the reason for the tap out, but I'd like to add a few things. 1: Liberators were sitting ducks without bio under them 2: Vikings weren't going to be much use here either. 3: The army supply counts units that are building. Terran could easily have 20+ supply stuck in production.

Bro y’all don’t know the meta at all. No one goes bcs in tvp late game u less they’re going mech, which is already pretty rare, because everyone goes bio in tvp. Going into bcs is something you might do in diamond league or below. Bcs aren’t worth transitioning into if you aren’t playing mech because small amounts of bcs arent very useful in late game and can be sniped by stalkers, and once a large amount of bcs accumulate, the Protoss should already have tempests to counter, and tempests destroy bcs. The only thing bcs would be good at doing in tvp lategame would be harassing the Protoss, but in a straight up fight mass bcs tend to suck (unless the Protoss has only stalkers, which shouldn’t be the case unless they have 2 iq)
@@DuoFurey technically mass bcs would counter max pax’s comp at the time, but you can’t look at it like that. If milkicow had made bcs, maxpax woulda made different units, in which the case, the bcs would have likely been worse

No disrespect to the eu scene but after watching super tournament this looks like a ladder game lol.
Not too fair a comparison of the eu and Korean scene as super tourment is comprised of the top 16 of the gsl whereas DH masters is comprised of a pool of 32. Added to that poor Milki is bottom of the all the players with 0 wins and Maxpax is 5th and becoming one of the best in Europe. To go on a aligulac rankings comparison this is like SOS beating NaTuRal or Spear and if you watched that it wouldn't be reflective of the quality of the Korean scene it would be one guy stomping (and styling tbh) on a very good but just not good enough opponent. Which is what happened here.
Na/ EU much more "errors" you can see in the gameplay. No problem. It is what it is. So yeah gsl is the top of the sc2 league ok?

Disruptors are the worst thing to happen in SC2, overpowered, with no real counterplay.
Damn, this was horrible by both sides. Maxpax was undisturbed for how long and didn't ever transition/rapidly expand to take the whole map/tons of stargates?
Looks to me a lot like milkicow was just a bit scared to go out on the map and lose everything. He probably was so caught up with repositioning his army constantly vs the moving protoss army and macroing at the same time that he never found the APM to get a drop or two out (in the earlier game he actually attacked at several locations but just was defended easily). I'm pretty sure if Milkicow was a stronger mechanical player, maxpax would've lost with his style EASILY, because ranged libs counter disruptors and ghosts counter everything + DTs. I love how milkicow has enough ghosts to get an emp off on the P army every engagement, such a good way of dealing damage.
