Take the odd proportions of the commoners found in elden ring with their elongated necks for example. The helmet makes more sense for them to wear than it does for us. Same thing with Blaidd's set, he doesn't wear a helmet (as strange of a decision as it is). His set does not come with the wolf mask. It is simply a complementary item as far as I understand.

  • Maliketh's armor makes a lot of sense for maliketh, though. He fights on all fours, most of the time low to the ground. The plate armor is where he needs it the most, the scales makes sense because he is facing the enemy, and the scales being positioned the way they are would make the blade slide down, away from his chest. And chain on the stomach for constant tummy scritches, but also to save on money because it shouldn't be exposed to an enemy anyways.

  • Just incredible content. Dr Forgeng is an excellent speaker and really seems to appreciate the fine line between fun and functional for games like this. It is fascinating hearing his input on the potential historical inspirations of the armour sets, and at the same time hearing the appreciation for the rule of cool when speaking about cosplay or ceremonial armour. As others have stated too, the editing really brings a lot of life into this video. You and your guests are doing an absolutely incredible job, and you should be proud :)

Did not expect your insight into what the 'Tarnished' would be seen using, as little emphasis was placed on that aspect of the character in the game and it has actually enhanced how I see armor as a whole in Elden Ring. Well met. :)

  • I love how Dr. Forgeng shows respect to the work made by the artists by explaining what he likes and finds interesting about the designs even when he recognizes the impraticality of some of the parts. Shows he's not just an expert in armor and medieval combat but also someone with a deep appreciation for art, as his position as museum curator suggests. It's sometimes overlooked how much artist work there's behind a game. Several excellent artists work for the industry and there's clearly a lot of research behind Souls games, which makes it all the more interesting listening to an expert recognizing the source of those influences. He also has a sense of humour, which I appreciate.

  • The reason Carian knight armor has one 1 steel gauntlet on the left hand is because it is mainly used by Carian spellblades who wield their staff in the left hand. their right hand usually is holding the Carian knight sword (which has a attack that blocks and then strikes) which is their main close quarters weapon. So while their right hand is slashing and stabbing the left more vulnerable hand is protected.

  • Maliketh's armor focused on his bestial agility. He could protect his belly area well enough, be it staying on all fours or dodging - meanwhile anything less flexible would restrict his ability to contort and twist his torso nearly 180 degrees as he commonly does. And the spiked elements are more likely to disarm the opponent than lead to injury. With his speed, you're unlikely to land a precise thrust, and likely to get the sword caught between the plates and ripped out of your hands as his full body momentum opposes your hands strength. Bad armor for a human, great for a sleek beast.

  • Fun thing is Leonard (which is radahns horse) doesn’t carry radahn. Radahn learned gravity magic for 2 reasons 1 to arrrest the stars (which really hurt his mother and her ilk) and 2 so, he could keep his scrawny yet brave horse. Radahn is the same as malena their both stagnation personified 1 wants to break away from it and radahn refuses to change. Even being rotted and mind gone he still is arresting the stars on behalf of the golden order and his father. Really cool quote from him is “I was a champions cub. Now I’m the lord of the battlefields lion.” Which shows his tremendous respect for Godfrey. That’s the reason he has the lions on his armor since Godfrey took the beast regent serosh and that’s sort of his sigil. Elden Ring has so many tiny details

  • While not my hands down favourite (I’m an unbearable sucker for the Kaiden Set) I really appreciate that the Carian Knight armour looks like it’s designed to be worn by someone who’s not intent on fighting as a traditional knight; rather a warrior who adopts foreign forms and aesthetics to more closely resemble that archetypal armour style while still prioritising their own accustomed function. As far as knightly plate armour goes in Elden Ring, the Carian Set really doesn’t seem to be nearly as protective at a glance. It is, as pointed out in the video, that would fit closer to a tournament or party piece. Yet, it’s absolutely covered in what I assume are shards of glintstone (the game’s catalyst for arcane magic) as well as having one gauntlet that is not obstructed by metal, likely to accommodate the utilisation of spells. Such a cool design
