he rarely has to go to ground during matches because he positions himself so well when in one on one situations. he plays the ball great and once he gets to your body his strength shields the opponent off with ease. what he does isn't easy but his composure, IQ, and physicality make it seem as if it is. truly a world class defender, and in my eyes the best right now at his position.

Yep the problem with fans nowadays is they think that a good defender is one that does good slide tackling but the truth is the greatest defenders are defenders that play with there brain. VVD is a great example of that, his defending iq is insane.

I like how he baits forwards to go wide in 1v1 situations by slowing down and cutting the inside lane so they can only have one option which is to burst out wide posing less danger to the goalkeeper, he did it to Sissoko at 0:06 and Mbappe at 1:33, also at 4:18, at 5:35, & also against the great CR7 at 5:00 fell for the bait, rarely do you see opponents cut inside vs this man because it seems the easiest to just go wide instead, it truly is an Art & an incredible skill
