    • There was another Cerveza Cristal in free Cuba, later revived for touri$m. I tried one quite a few yrs ago. I still remember very good brew. I think Ortega also brews the Cuban style beer. In Nicaragua for export. The chilena is likely nice

  • Minor point, In the story of Dune the 10191 year is based on the "A.G." calendar which stands for "After Guild" and refers to the time when the Spacing Guild established a monopoly on all space travel, transport, and Imperial banking throughout the known universe in the year 11,075 A.D. Before this, the years are marked with "B.G.", which means "Before Guild". So it's more like over 21k years in the future.

    • It could even be more like 25k years in our future, if you adopt the timeline suggested by the Dune Encyclopedia. But your basic point stands, it’s much more than 10k years because of the switch from our Common Era to the Spacing Guild era. Stephen is a master nerd when it comes to LOTR, but his Dune game needs improvement.

  • Frank Herbert was well known to have worked out the ecology of Dune with experts and other SF writers over many years. One story I read was that he exchanged ideas with other SF authors who worked extensively with world building, such as Hal Clement, Isaac Asimov and others (not sure if this is a fact or a confabulation). This, coupled with his interest and research in climate stabilization projects all around the world helped him imagine Dune.
