  • Thanks for being here everyone. I say this at the end of the video but I wanna say it again here cuz I think it’s important: This list is just a drop on the bucket. The list of who got super rich off the war is longer than any of us can fathom. My hope with this video is that it will help us better understand how the system works and what incentives are at play in the US war economy. Thanks for watching and I’ll see you in the next vid ✌️

      @Me-ui1zy@Me-ui1zy2 жыл бұрын
    • @@Me-ui1zy Yup, that's the issue. Unbiased journalism is not possible IMO. The amount of information journalists acquire is insane. They can't possibly present it all to us, so they will have cut many things out, and in the process their bias will determine what is being cut and which kind of narrative will be built. For example, if you were a journalist leaning to the left, and you decide to film a clash between republican and democrat protestors. It just so happens that you were able to film some democrats kicking a republican lying on the ground, even though a similar but even worse event occurred nearby, where a democrat was almost killed, but no one caught it on video. Now what do you do? You have it on video how your side is doing something bad, but you failed to capture the other side, even though you know it happened. If you were to publish your video, you would be skewing the reality of people against your side, and adding a disclaimer that reads "They did something like this as well" isn't going to cut it.

The same can be said about Afghanistan. We gave both Afghanistan & Viet Nam the means to be independent. I don't think many people realize exactly where Afghanistan is and how it influenced world history. Fragmented they are less of a threat. Currently NATO is having that problem. It may be why Putin is trying to reassemble the USSR. I don't think the US did it to be a success in teaching the Afghan to weather the future adversities.

    • These are difficult problems, and there isn't really any right choice. While there are bad practices, the issue is that there are no good solutions. We, as a democratic free market society, do not believe in nationalized industry. So we use private contractors instead. That means almost everything from roads to the military uses private contractors instead of government. The government asks military command what they need and they create a compitions for private company bids. Whoever can meet all the points asked for and also has the lowest price wins. Now the problem is the military needs something so hard to develop and so specific that only one company can meet requirements. The issue is that when the government asks for something, only one company bids. When only one company can meet government bid requirements it means they have a blank check. They can charge any amount because no other company is competing for the bid. So there is no good solution to this. Either we let government directly develop these things or we deal with private company prices. We know for a fact that government cannot run businesses, which is why we don't do it. We are stuck with private companies doing all our nation's government work because it is the best option. This guy talks like it is odd or unusual that people got rich from war. Our society is based on private industry not government industry. This means that people get rich from everything. It would be weird if people didn't get rich from war. War is extremely competitive and profitable so yes there is money to be made just like everything else. This guy is talking like it's so crazy that people made money from war. People make money and do the things he is talking about in every single industry. When breaking the rules means getting rich people will break rules it happens in every aspect of life. We do our best to combat this but making money is what is supposed to happen in our society. The private sector gets you rich in America and the government sector gets you rich in places like Russia or china.

Iraq and Afghanistan were Oil and Opium wars but also massive profiteering opportunities for Arms Manufacturers. What you have listed here breaks my heart, we knew this is what they were going to do, we knew it would be a dirty, greedy and bloody affair. Normal everyday people marched in opposition but we were all ignored because the then potential profits were to great for our leaders to ignore but after watching this video I realise they made more than they ever dreamed. The whole think stinks from top to the bottom. All the lives lost and torn from the world, all that disgusting greed and a media so in love with being in the heart of the drama, reporting without criticism, word for word Pentagon briefings. • I left the US Army in November 2000 and soon after 9/11 I started being offered employment for civilian contractor positions in Kuwait and then Afghanistan and Iraq. Some of the offers were approaching $200k with major tax benefits making it even more generous. The two things that kept me from signing up were that I couldn't accept the fact service members were responsible for the safety of contractors while being paid 1/5 the pay and the civilian contract allowed for the ability to quit and be sent home at any time. I told the recruiter that I would expect that to result in a huge turnover. He said some quit as soon as they show up, but you still get paid for "trying." The Afghanistan war was a major source of self enrichment. Congress was fully aware, but they had no reason to stop it.

That the civilian victims in an enemy territory might be shown justice. It'd be like seeing the Russians who killed civilians on cam actually jailed for their crimes - and it sent a message too: "You're not untouchable, there actually may be consequences" which changes the whole game. And then Trump, with the support of near half the US population of fucking shitwits - PARDONS THEM, COMPLETELY. Pardons them of indiscriminately shooting into a crowded area of the place we're claiming to 'keep peace' in. That sends too messages One to the contracters: "You are above the law, there will be no consequences". One to struggling nations we intervene in: "They're no different than all the other occupiers through all our shitty history" I hate it when people don't get punished for financial crimes, as it's a given enough money means disproportionately small consequences but it disgusts me when something like that happens and undermines crimes of violence as well. It makes me a lose another bit of hope that any of this means something. That we actually are different in any way in the US.

  • This is why I pay people literally no attention when they start to gripe about the possibility of their tax dollars paying off college loans or paying for college in general; like if you really knew where your tax dollars were actually going…

    • Individual income taxes are the equivalent of letting a 2 year old pay for a toy. The entire income tax system is unnecessary and is primarily designed to make the population feel ownership in society. The country used to be financed on import tariffs alone, and that was when the currency was backed by physical gold. With a fiat currency and the federal reserve, the entire system of taxation and appropriations is artificially designed to keep the population distracted.

    • Ironically the US tells us… All income tax goes to pay the interest only for the 30+trillion federal reserve notes worth of National Debt not a thing more, at least according to the US governing mental institutions.

  • The problem is corruption, it is not that "they were not paying attention due to war". The people responsible for giving out these contracts, especially to those companies that don't do anything and just pocket the money, are the real culprits. Let me give you an example. If I was the person responsible for giving out a $1B contract, and I assign it to a "friend", he gets the huge profitable contract and gives me 100 mill in cash without anyone knowing. This is exactly how it works, but it's untraceable, and it is a cancer in the US and basically every country.

    • It doesn't even need to be your friend, and no one has to hide giving you money. Just buy enough stocks from the company. Or get them as compensation for your no-need-to-show-up job as advisor.

    • Well, not necessarily. Corruption is one of the problems and it works in many ways, including the one that you just explained. But what this video confirms is that even without corruption (as in, without breaking any laws) there are people legally profiting obscene amounts of money. This is one of those cases where the lawmakers don't want to make laws and regulations to stop these, because it benefits them.
