For those questioning why I didn’t wear “professional” headphones for this challenge: I did that on purpose because I was more interested in the accuracy of the sounds and how they matched with the visuals, rather than the quality. I wore generic headphones to level the playing field and while I understand that the quality is a big part of what you pay for, I wanted to make the challenge more difficult for myself.
Great brother
Great my dear friend 🙏

The mixer sound was pretty shitty...i would't have paid 1k for that..scam

I love that these videos are a confidence boost for the lower priced sellers. If you can't tell the difference between $1000 and $400 products, then they should definitely raise their prices!
You can also take it as you don't really have to go for expensive artists all the time. For videos like this $400 or even $80 artist can get the job done perfectly.
Or the other guys should lower theirs..
diminishing returns. you can easily tell the difference between say 20$ vs 200$, but its harder to tell the difference between say 500$ to 1000$.
I prefered A since the begining, I'm very glad it's cheapest (40 dollars). The quality/price is great. For 400 dollars I expect a song. For 1000 dollars I expect an amazing song. I have a poor-middle class mentality.
@@branlan895 I didn't find too much difference and I think most people on Earth focus more on music and words when watching commercials. I like A the most because it values "low notes"(bass sound? I don't how to explain it). My problem with C and D is the fact that some sounds aren't pleasurable in my ears, they have great quality but, some sounds irritated me.
That $1,000 foley sounded so good, but honestly, the dude who did it with his voice was super fun and my personal favorite!
That one would also be more popular and catch more attention. Its something unique. Maybe could refine a bit more in some parts and its good to go

5:51 made it very satisfying
C was definitely my favorite. The attention to detail was great and it sounded the most realistic to me. They did a great job at accentuating the details and grabbing my attention. E.g the knife sharpening sound added to the shot of the blade was a great way to add sound and make the shot seem necessary. The others kind of ignored it which made the shot itself feel out of place to me. I’m not an expert, that was just my thought when listening to it. I wasn’t expecting it to be the so high up but honestly it makes sense.
The mouth noise one would work really well in a commercial with a kid describing how a smoothie is made.
When they didn’t add the sound of the straw hitting the bottom of the glass, I was frustrated
IKR
Id say it's probably intentionally omitted, there is no visual cue for the straw hitting the bottom of the cup, if they added it more people would be weirded out
or the straw going through the smoothie, though it would really happen that way in real life i think it wouldve been better.
I think straws aren't made of iron. It doesn't make that much of a noise imo.
@@zinetx it's a metal straw

"you don't need a bag with already chopped carrots, if you want to have carrots you just buy a carrot, I was so confused" says the guy who asked to sound a video with a girl opening a BAG OF ALREADY CHOPPED WATERMELON! What?
to be fair, watermelon is a pain in the ass to cut unlike carrot which easier besides, i think that watermelon cut specially for juice.
@João Alves maybe idk never seen those before lol

I focused more on the sound they did when the smoothie was poured in the glass. Some were too unrealistic as it sounded more "watery"/"flowy" which isn't exactly the sound of a smoothie. So C became my fave bet, it really captured the sort of thickness/chunkiness sound of a smoothie when you pour it.

I really liked the 40$ one best, especially the zipper sound?!?! It is SO original!! And he even added some cool background sounds too which you mentioned as "almost scary". I'm totally in love with that!!
C was definitely my absolute favourite. Full bodied and complex layering.
What I learnt here is that, you can hire a $40 artist and it doesn't really sound too different from a $1000 artist. Remember that the advert you're making is for untrained ears
but theres a bunch of things as an untrained audience that just sounds wrong when you watch it, like when a plastic bag sounds like zipper
That $1000 did sound significantly better than everybody else (idk why he put E on the $1000), but it's not such a big difference to varrant the price difference (the price itself though isn't that bad if it's a real ad, a short film, etc.)
You may be making an advert for untrained ears however, that extra quality could possibly catch the right person's ear and get you another gig down the line.
you're right, for the untrained ear it's not a big difference... but going the extra mile always pays off in a very round end product as a whole, even you don't notice the details
@@NoName-uy2hr do you honestly think the one charging $1000 is 25 times better than the one charging $40?
A was obviously the cheapest, the zipper sound threw me off immediately
yeah zipper and paper doesnt closely sound the same
Besides the zipper I liked it the most. I thought the muffledness was a good touch-
@Gshi _ at least dude got sponsored and the view that his content. But for regular people it does sound silly to spend that amount of money.
I thought the zipper sounded the coolest
I noticed it was a zipper and not actually plastic but it still sounded better in my opinion
Am I crazy? Out of the five, as a customer watching an advert, I enjoyed A the most, would buy the product. The juice and straw sound is the most satisfying.
To each their own. I personally enjoyed E the most. I will say the beatboxing one was enjoyable also😂
the sounds sounded too much like ambience to me
That contraption you wondered about in the video from #E is a Bialetti Moka Stovetop Espresso maker. They work by using the pressure from boiling water to push the water through a filter with coffee grinds. They make excellent Espresso and all you need is a heating plate.

Yeah I was gonna say the main thing is none of those sounded like a smoothie, they sounded like a soft drink…
C and E both got the thicker liquid sound pretty well.
C sounded thick
fax bro
I liked B the most! (wormholesound) the epic thud when the bag hits the table, and the only one that chose to leave the straw silent. great vid btw!
6:45 bro sounds like a motorbike 💀
I guessed DABEC. What really separates recording C from the rest, is the smoothie sound itself. Most of them sound way to watery.
I felt the same way, like the liquid being poured wasn't viscous enough. Overall I loved C the mostm
It was the straw hitting the glass for me as it was the only one that sounded realistic to me.
For me was also the smooth switching from sound to sound. Like there's a really nice air sound with each switch that makes it dramatic but not overly? Not sure but i said yes that's high quality
I guessed E as the last one 😅 the smoothie sound was a bit off, but everything was good to me. I thought that too. E had all the sounds for everything, like the metal straw hitting the glass and the droplet at the end. And the sounds were brighter, seemed to transition better and fit a smoothie commercial more. That’s what made me thought it was the most expensive 🤷🏻♀️

That "contraption" is an amazing single block of aluminum machined down to a coffee maker for a top the stove burner. Seeing how tiny that one was, probably specifically for espressos. This simple design has stood the test of time decades and decades in Europe I got one when I moved out of my moms house because it was so smooth and clean. But it is 3 times the size of the one used in this Foley creation. Makes 2 cups per boil Everytime I unscrew or screw the halves together. That pure aluminum threading is the most satisfying sound. And it was so satisfying to see someone use it for something PS if you ever watch ornate or old movies and the family is mob like or over seas youll see that "contraption" I wanna say it's an Italia espresso thing but Im part Polish so not confident
To be specific, that is a reproduction of a Bialetti Moka, invented by Alfonso Bialetti in 1933 today exposed at MoMA museum in NYC, or a Moka for induction cooker (I think is a reproduction, but I'm not sure), probably to make one cup of coffee (there are different sizes, from 57ml to 800 ml or from 1 to 18 cups). And no, is not for espresso, espresso is the coffee made with the espresso machine (invented by Angelo Moriondo in 1884), is made with a different method of extraction, has different taste, the coffee used has a different grinding and an espresso is shorter (around 25ml). The story of the coffee is pretty cool.

Yup, the blender was great too
Plus the smoothie actually sounded thick and not watery

@@nuramanina7224 yeah I think so
A few of them missed the droplets at the intro and end, as well as the straw clinking against the glass! So I dismissed those as the higher-tier ones immediately.
E was for me the best. The details r just amazing. Like in the end when the straw hits the glass the deep sound of it cuz the whole glass is filled up with juice.

Solo un italiano poteva usare una moka per simulare il rumore AHAHA
Naturally I’m a perfectionist, so being a Foley Artist is kinda something I automatically picked up when creating sound effects. It’s pretty much a basis of recreating some of the basic effects of an action, like an impact shot into the dirt in a fight movie would relate to a mix of a bowling ball crashing into actual dirt plus a treble boost and then adding some impact wave like from pressure exhaled out of a ballon without the squeak. And once you add ambiance, retextured audio, and any touch ups(which are all optional), you have done it. Also, it doesn’t take a lot of effort to be a Foley Artist, but to be a GOOD Foley artist is like actual “art”, you have to understand the intent for what the purpose of the film is and apply the effects to match. Like, a cartoon would have more animated sound effects, while a commercial or live action would probably have more of a realism effect to it.
Good stuff. I really liked A and the mouth one had me HOLLERING lmao. It was nice to see their behind the scenes!!

This video taught me that liquid foley detail really separates good foley from great. You can tell so easily when the artist is pouring into an empty cup. I would have just bought the frozen watermelon and recorded myself making the smoothie lol
Yes, but you have to be careful doing foley cus often times the actual thing doesn't make the sound you want, even if that sounds odd 😂
Daniel seeing a moka: "I'm not really sure what that contraption is" Every Italian alive: Dies of shock
First reaction: shock
Il commento di cui avevo bisogno ma non pensavo di trovare
molto fiero dell'artista italiano
I thought I was the only one. I kept yelling it makes coffee!
A moka? It looks like a percolator to me.
Pls do more vids like this! They are so entertaining
My main takeaway from this is that buying chopped carrots is a silly thing to do
